I am planning to hike the CT this summer, has anyone tried one of these out on the Colorado Trail, yet? Fishing would be a bonus but I have to keep my gear to a minimal size and weight. Plenty of time for feedback and to test it out beforehand. Please let me know. I will be fishing in lakes, streams and fast flowing high country rivers.

Put some water in the clear float they give you, about half way full. We call them water bobbers here in Canada. You can cast across that pond if you wanted.

Also fishing an inline spinner on those naked, (no float or weight) like a big rooster tail is dynamite on something like this.

i think you guys would be much happier with telescopic rods and actual reels, if you need small and compact. i have 2 that stay behind the seat of my truck in the little seat cover pocket, one is ultralight and one is medium. i use them much more than i use my expensive baitcasting set ups because they are always with me. every time im driving and see water i stop and take a few casts. i did buy good aluminum framed spinning reels for them. also leverage is a good thing when fishing, i use 7 foot rods, but they collapse down to about the size of that daggerfish.
