Fishing challenge idea: $40 (or $50) tournament challenge. You go to Cabela's or some other outdoor story and buy a rod, reel, line, and lures and place in a fishing tournament with the gear!

I have caught dozens of speckled trout redfish and flounder , I only use 50$ rod and real total cost. Most people truly overdo it on spending. Fishing shouldn't be expensive.

You should give it another try, but with the spinning reel version! Its waaaaay better than the casting one! ;) Oh and don't be afraid, that thing can handle a lot! I've done a lift test with a 1kg (about 2.2lb) and it just didn't break!

See if you can get your hands on a Daiwa eliminator (model no. EL18UL) it is a 4’8” ultra light rod rated for 2-4 lb line. AMAZING ultralight rod for creek fishing

I have an emergency tackle box in my truck at all times with this rod and a replacement reel I bought at Value Village for 2$. It's actually pretty alright for something that can fit in the pencil case I keep its lures in. It's really handy in situations where I wished I could get a few casts out but don't have my proper equipment.

Fun video. Keep up the great work. Of course the pen rod and reel are a novelty. If you consider that you can actually use it to catch fish its a pretty good product. You also probably should have put braid on it. Less stretch in the line will give a better hook set. I've had the pen rod for about 2 years. Its not going to replace a 7' combo but for a throw in the bag incase there's a fishing spot on the way to gram grams house. Or in the glove box for pond fishing on your lunch break or stealth fishing the tanks at Bass Pro or Cabelas.

To cast this rod, you have to turn the dial on the side of the reel and then cast it. The button stops the line from going out too far

Yesterday I had received the pen rod and reel (spincast) and I had tried and casting with the fishing line that had come with the reel was too heavy lb test to cast properly.....so this morning I had changed out the line from the pen reel to a 4lb test, I will say this...a lot smoother casting and no coiling up from the new line I had out on compared to the original line the reel had come with. Try changing out your line

Hey firststatefishing, I was using the spinning reel version of the pen rod about a year ago with a ned rig as a goof but actually ended up catching a good sized catfish at anacostia Park in DC. Anyways, awesome video keep up the good work.

my 5yo kid loves this pen rod. reel is junk, but there is a combo with ok spinning reel, or you can attach any other reel with some tape because reel seat is smaller than stAndard.
