The JT Thompkins disqualification on the Bassmaster Elite Series just keeps giving and giving. After one day, and a video yesterday, several anglers asked, what happened with the Major League Fishing investigation with the cameraman? Why are they being so silent? Lets talk about what they found out and ask some more questions about this crazy situation with JT Thompkins.

As stated in the comments below, does anyone think MLF is going to say their cameraman sold waypoints of an MFL angler to a Bass angler, no they would never admit that. So, I guess Mullins just pulled the story out of the blue. Someone is defiantly lying but we will never know who that is. The only one paying the price right now is JT.

How does Hatfield know JT’s number was on the MLF photographers phone? Was Hatfield allowed to scroll through the photographers list of contacts, or the phones list of recent calls? Did Hatfield hear the photographer talking to JT while he was fishing? This information doesn’t sound clear and believable.

I saw on KZbin that JT had taken a polygraph using the same questions he failed and passed. If the polygraph is all they have then shame on BASS. Funny they can assassinate someone character using only a method whose results aren’t admissible in court.

As I’ve said before, bass masters has become the clown league of the fishing industry. Their lack of transparency has potentially ruined an anglers, reputation and integrity. For some reason, I feel as though David Mullins and JT have some sort of beef with each other on a more personal level. My reasoning, is David made these claims that were proven false, which leads me to think that there are some sort of other issues ongoing. Regardless, JT has an uphill battle

Someone needs to put David Mullins ass in the spotlight now since he started this. Essentially MLF is denying everything that David Mullins has claimed happened. And if that turns out to be the case JT Thompkins should sue the shit out of Mullins, BASS and anyone else that has said anything detrimental to him and his brand.

There’s a reason that polygraph tests are inadmissible in a court of law and that’s because they can be false due to a number of factors. I can tell you from first hand experience with an unresolved issue with BASS myself, they aren’t gonna do or say anything. Sweeping things under the rug is exactly what they do. They do not care about the anglers at all! Your are a disposable, replaceable number, especially if negative publicity towards them surrounds you. If I were JT and truly did nothing wrong and BASS has caused him to lose ROY, sponsorships and defamed his name/brand, I would hire a lawyer. Nothing else other than that or BASS publicly making it right will bring back what he has lost.

I don’t think that you should be disqualified solely based on a polygraph. Those things are not always accurate and he could’ve been nervous and maybe he questioned himself during the questioning if he might have done something wrong but wasn’t actually. I also feel like there might something more going on bc the only one who was close to beating Trey McKinney for ROY was JT and if JT wasn’t DQ’d then there was a chance that Trey wouldn’t have been crowned the youngest ROY in BASS history. Might be a far stretch there and bit of a conspiracy theory, not doubt that both are phenomenal anglers. If Trey wouldn’t have had those mess up’s earlier in the season he would’ve walked away with ROY easily and it wouldn’t have been so close.

Add the fact that they are roommates on tour. So they never talk or share info? And only JT gets a polygraph? Seems like a setup to me, they definitely want to promote McKinney like he's the next KVD. Bassmaster should have waited till after the season to take any action.

Interesting, Steve. One problem with this is, like you said, It is near impossible for Bassmaster to come out and admit they jumped the gun. How (looking back in time) they may have handled is him failing the Polygraph, put and Asterisks next to him do and investigation including a another polygraph. Then you can ether. Disqualify him with evidence, redistribute the ponts and prize money or say what went on, and leave it at that. Remember the boat plug Fiasco with the BPT. No matter how many layers the onion has, something happened that warranted disqualification. MLF more than likely swept it off and did very little to find any truths. B.A.S.S is keeping it tight lipped, they have enough problems. Our beloved sport of tournament bass fishing is severely damaged. The integrity of the sport is gone.

Here's a true story from the walleye tour. About 20 years ago the pwt came to my home waters where my dad was the local champ. Not only was I told not to fish for 2 weeks. The "pros" couldn't figure it out. After the 2nd day of the 3 day tournament my dad's partner drew a map for the guy who won. Gave him the juice how as well. For nothing. Pros never came back. I expect that this same scenario happens every tournament regardless of what circuit. Its all about not ruffling any feathers and pulling the tagline of the corporation. Im sure guys are running up to Jacob wheeler at the gas station everyday to give him spots. But bass and mlf will deny it. I personally have no respect for the organizations. Or the people who lie for them. God bless Jacob Fautz for telling the truth. And if you love bass dont fish for them deep unless you plan on eating them.

If a so called professional fisherman can not find the winning school of fish on their own , they suck !!! There should be a zero tolerance on waypoint and information gathering. As soon as the schedule comes out. the anglers get zero info on all the lakes for that seasons schedule. All the lakes are off limits for all anglers till the allotted practice time.

Wait a minute, let's look at this logically and not emotionally. The author is obviously jumping to conclusions that have not been established (and probably never will be). Thompkins gets DQ'ed for failing a polygraph test relating to getting waypoints illegally. The way polygraphs work is by measuring your reaction to various questions that are known to be true against your reaction to questions that haven't been established as true. So in practice, if Thompkins was asked if he got illegal waypoints, even if he had received illegal waypoints for a different lake, at a different time, from someone other than this MLF cameraman in question, he may still react to this polygraph question as if he was being untruthful. So you can't conclude whether Thompkins got illegal waypoints or not, and it would appear he is feeling guilty regarding this topic. And I know; polygraphs aren't admissible in most courts because there are people that can deceive the polygraph, but it is a very small percentage of the population that can do that. So Mullens tells BASS that he was told by Hatfield (an MLF angler) that Thompkins got waypoints from an MLF cameraman that filmed him (Hatfield) at the St Lawrence. When the story comes out Hatfield denies it, so for sure either Mullens or Hatfield is lying. If the truth is truly something BASS and MLF really wanted to uncover in the interests of integrity of the sport (I know, I'm laughing too...), both Mullens and Hatfield should be investigated and polygraphed by the same polygraph examiner. From a common sense standpoint, it would seem highly unlikely that IF Hatfield's cameraman was selling Hatfield's waypoints, that Hatfield would have knowledge of it, unless he was in on it. Even if MLF's investigation discovered that this scenario did occur, It's not in their best financial interests to disclose it because it makes their organization look bad. Also, it's highly unlikely that Mullens would just make up a story about Thompkins getting waypoints, protest him, and then Thompkins happens to fail the polygraph and gets DQ'ed for something he didn't do. Usually where there's smoke there's fire. Remember folks, all of these people are involved in high stakes gambling for a living....

BASS and MLF are a joke.... They make these anglers sign contracts that is 100% in the organizations favor and when something like this happens the anglers can't speak up and defend themselves and now in JT's situation he basically can't plead his case without BASS getting butt hurt. I think if JT is truly innocent he needs to bring a civil case against Mullens and name BASS in the lawsuit also and let his lawyer speak for him, BASS isn't there for the anglers anymore they are there for $$$$ and that's not in anglers benefits.

I think some guys here need to remember the info loophole that all 5 of the guys used after qualifying for the Elites thru the Opens tour. BASS put the 24 schedule out before the opens tour was over. The 5 who knew they were going to move up "gathered" waypoints for all the lakes on the 24 schedule. So now you have a young guy being questioned knowing he used a gray area to get info. Some people get nervous even if they are not lying...its a common human emotion. If they busted him for watching the broadcast that is ridiculous. He had all the waypoints already-what was he going to learn? I feel they used him as a scapegoat to protect McKinney. Pro Fishing is a mess the last few years, I can live without it. It has WWE feel about it, not for me.

KZbinrs that have channels were out claiming JT did something wrong before the evidence and statements was forthcoming from person or persons involved. Just because a person fails a polygraph test doesn't mean he's guilty. Can a truthful person fail a polygraph? The test is not 100% accurate, and honest people often fail a polygraph. Unless MLF or Bassmaster have concrete evidence that JT cheated and can prove it, then either and/or both MLF and Bassmaster should be held libel for tarnishing JT brand. The question is "WHY" MLF or Bassmaster isn't saying anything about their findings on this incident. Sounds like a nothing burger to me, just let this young man fish.

The big problem isn't just what about J T if this turns out to be bogus? The problem is with ALL of the anglers who ever take a polygraph. Is it dependable? How often do they get false positives? It might be time to consider doing a complete investigation BEFORE penalizing or not penalizing an angler. I can understand why an organization would not want to admit they made a mistake because it opens the door for every guy that took a hit to protest. I just think they need to take a good hard look at the process.

I think you're doing a great job on these difftopics, hang in there. Polygraphs are not very accurate. The American Polygraph Acadeny claims 90%, but independent testing the National Science Foundation showed more like 70%, mostly sighting false positives. Generally not advisable as probable cause for a search warrant, usually not admissible in criminal cases and usually not accepted in civil trials unless both parties agree. So if the organization investigated and found no evidrnce JT had done anything wrong they are honor bound to fix it. I don't think they will though, and that's really too bad!

No one forgot about this, for those that commented below stating this. This really is a big deal...for many reasons. Was David honest with his accusations? Did he get a poly test on his way out of the Elites to see if what he stated was true? It's either accurate or not. If JT is truly not guilty of what he is being accused of... he has to fight to protect his own dignity. If he's lying, that team should just let it ride out and see what happens. Well it's just like all criminals that are incarcerated. They all say they are innocent. 😂 I feel that JT did what he did to make his brand sell by winning, and if it meant cheating a little or pushing the limits then oh well. I think he is guilty of cheating. If Ray Scott was still in charge that kid would not be fishing in anymore BASS tournaments. It's well known Ray Scott did not put up with cheaters and would band them for life. But now that MONEY is involved it's now ok. I'm sorry but this is ruined a lot of good sports, we can start with football baseball soccer and now fishing. It's just sad to see this kind of behavior.

Of course mlf is going to deny it, they have zero integrity. When one of their anglers fails a polygraph they fire the one administering the test. As far as bass goes its not an issue anymore of he did or didn't get info illegally. He failed the poly and that's why he was suspended.

Pretty sure the schedule wasn’t supposed to come out till October after the last open! Word at the ramp is that it got leaked and some guys got the heads up on lac crosse and Hartwell and also made the opens EQs only allowed to communicate with EQ contingent anglers or elite anglers due to the no information rule so now they can’t even talk to there travel partners, coanglers, everyone about the lakes if they want to make the elites next year! All the opens guys got a text around noon on Monday the first day of practice on La Crosse about it!

I hear of false positives all the time . The guy on zaldains pod said if he feels guilty getting the way points the legal way as other rookies did he could give a false positive. He was the lie detector guy from mlf. Im not saying either way but he claims his innocence from the beginning and the evidence is falling apart.

Yes it does! Everyone who belongs to bass should pull their memberships till bass apologizes to J T publicly! To physically make Bass hire a qualified person to do the polygraph tests! Everyone should be flooding Bass with emails , snail mail and calls to protest them!

Hmmm....... I'm thinking there is no way MLF would "out" their cameraman. And how would they prove or disprove that he was involved? Ask him if he was? Take his phone and check it? (which they have no right to do). The more likely scenario is they did a quick investigation to say they done their due diligence and wiped their hands of it. They have their own drama let alone be involved in B.A.S.S.'s lol.

i agree, MLF wouldnt be smart to drag their camera guy into this. This looks bad on BASS as an organization and MLF can benefit from that.

The 2024 season is over, move on and get ready for 2025 season. MLF has also tried to buy BASS like they did with FLW. Suck it up and move on your not going to override the results from 2024

@tonygreen4356 If you're a tournament fisherman, you don't ask or let someone give you info. You cut them off from doing so. You do it on your own, and this clearly isn't happening in professional fishing anymore because of all the drama going on. The way you fix it is no practice 30 days before the tournament and then show up and fish period and gather all the info you want.
