Hi Alan, I'm James from the UK 🇬🇧 I fish piers as I'm disabled, I have never fished for squide and was wondering if it is much like what you do in your kayak ! Your video is fantastic thank you very much it was extremely helpful. Kind regards James Tight lines 🎣🙏
@fishingmad10 ай бұрын
Hi James, I hope you are well. Thanks for messaging. The technique is so similar when land based fishing of piers and jetties. The only tip I would give is when fishing of piers and jetties try and look for helpful signs like ink stains, or change of colours in reefs or weedy zones and fish those parts of the pier or jetty. The technique is exactly the same as this vid. Hope that helps best regards Al

@@fishingmad Thank you so much for the advice Alan it's greatly appreciated, could I ask for some more information please. In the UK 🇬🇧 the sea is quite dirty and can be deep as well, would I be better at low tide as it's roughly two meters deep and sometimes you can see under the water a little bit also what colour jig's and wight should I use as tide run's fast on the flood, I hope you can understand what I'm asking about. Thank you so much for your response back to me and I hope too hear back from you soon Kind regards Alan tight lines 😉😁👍🙏

Thanks for the Informative video Alan. I found that squid were constantly attacking my soft plastics when i was targeting flathead and snook etc, so I ordered some 14 prong Squid jig spikes online. I've used a big bagging needle and threaded leader through a few different soft plastics (so as to try keep the natural swimming action of the soft plastic rather than pierce it with a spike jig and make it stiff) Ive tied the Squid prongs onto the leader at the tail end of the plastic and a loop at the nose end that i clip my swivel too - I've had excellent luck with them. :-)
@fishingmad2 жыл бұрын
That's brilliant, well done. Yeah 100% anytime I see squid following my soft plastic I will pull out a squid jig and most times they will come straight back and take the squid jig.

Our main squid run here in Rhode Island is May and early June, though the fall run is in full swing right now. I've always used YoZuri 3" jigs, but I've seen people use ones half that size. Usually, pink and light green always work the best. The boat I go on does nighttime squid trips in the spring from 7pm to midnight, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. I learned something the last time I went out. The males are the ones with the long grabbers, while the females lack those. There are no size or bag limits either.

Great work! Making it look easy once more. How often are you pulling up the weed?
@fishingmad2 жыл бұрын
Yeah pulling in weed will happen quite frequently, If it gets to much ill head to slightly deeper water or drop squid jig size, but fishing in thick weedy areas is all part of it.
@michaelmartin20572 жыл бұрын
What a fantastic tutorial. I've tried on a number of occasions to catch Squid - land based - and all I seem to pull up is weed attached to my Jig. If the Jig is let to rest after a couple of sharp tugs, then it has to rest in the weed and that's all I tend to pull up. Pulling my hair out.
@fishingmad2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Michael, in that's case maybe consider dropping down to a 2.5 size squid jig and even retrieving slightly faster, as long as your getting your jig down towards the bottom in weedy areas you'll get a few.

Hey mate, Thanks for your advice. Regarding to 3-5m depth, does the sea weeds catch the jig? I normally cast the jig and let it drops, however it will be caught by sea weeds. That's a bit annoying. Cheers mate.
@fishingmad2 жыл бұрын
Yep, very common you will remove seaweed from the jig quite a bit but its necessary as squid like to hold the bottom, you can always work the jig a bit faster or drop to a smaller size if it becomes to annoying

What is the difference between the savage 1DFR rod and an egi rod? Also can I use the savage 1DFR for soft plastics ?
@fishingmad2 жыл бұрын
The egi rod I used here is a tad longer. Egi rods are generally made longer for extra casting distance and blank is quite whippy so you don't pull squid jigs. that being said the 1dfr rods can be used for this purpose no problems and also great for soft plastics too.
