The big thing that worries me when I am out in the yak is having a decent sized shark come nosing around. I can imagine how uncomfortable that would be.

I would love to see you doing a video on beach / surf casting if you ever go. Sharks are normal in the water and surprised that was your first close call considering how much kayak fishing you do. But that guy on the boat omg, first time I've seen something like that, not sure if you should stay still and hope he sees you or try to paddle out the way and risk him turning into you. Also has that boat type thing ever happened to you before?

Scary moments with some of the big Noah's out there at the moment mate, I went out the day after this and marked one on the sounder as well. They seem fairly fixated on food so not too much risk, but let's not find out for sure either hey 😅

Thanks Brayden, I've got some stuff like this available in the FishingMad members area and also this article I wrote last year fishingmad.com.au/article/fishing-kayak-buyers-guide-2023 hope to get some stuff around this on the youtube channel soon. What budget were you looking at? A lot of my mates and FishingMad members have found a few bargains things like hobie outbacks or compass on facebook marketplace. Great choices as they are so much more stable then some of the cheaper entry level yaks
@braydentankard1842 Жыл бұрын
Cheers! I’ll take a look at that. I’m not necessarily set to a budget, more just want something good value that has what’s required and will take me through the beginner to intermediate stage before upgrading. I’m in Victoria as well and would most likely be fishing Port Phillip.

In that case 100% keep your eyes out for something like a hobie outback or compass or native watercraft. Especially if you can get a 2nd hand one in good condition at a good price. They have great stability and set of features and accessories.

Hey Alan, I'm going fishing tomorrow and just wanted to ask you, Do you prefer using a net with old bait or burley as attractant? Also where do you recommend fishing landbased for snook? Awesome video!
@fishingmad Жыл бұрын
I rarely use berley when targeting whiting on the kayak. It brings in many pest species like rays. If im on a boat then im happy to do so. Key is to keep moving until you find them. There are so many snook in PPB. Ive caught plenty of st kilda pier, st leoanrsd pier , wangim walk etc. catch heaps of them in the shallows on the kayak
@MrForeskinJim Жыл бұрын

Hi Alan. Long time no see mate. Just a qiuck question about the snook mate. Are they good eating. Wish I had you luck with the fish.
@fishingmad Жыл бұрын
Hey Angus, hope your well. Snook eating is very much personal opinion. Some love to eat them and others hate to eat them. Ive never been a big fan and tend to use them more for bait but I have many who write to me saying if cooked properly are really good eating. Snook love the shallows and they love faster moving hard body lures and soft plastics.

@@fishingmad Hey Alan mate, many thanks for a fast response. I have been going stir crazy not being able to get out there. Thought of going down to the Warneet pier, but found out it was closed for repairs and heaven knows when it will be open again. I thought I'd be smart and get down to the Toorongo Reservoir as it is not far from wate I am but guess what; the reservoir is closed for another 2 years I am told. Och well, I will have to wait till I can get down to Frankston to fish off the pier I suppose. Many thanks for your kind assistance mate. Cheers
