Hi Den. Wondering if there's specific advantages in fishing a giant pole like that, or rod and reel or is it just an old method used for the enjoyment of it? Also, with that length of, what I assume is, rubber/silicone tube coming out the end; is it on a roller at the tip so it doesn't get chafed? (Looks like the rubber tube goes through the whole tip end section and gets pinned somehow?) Fantastic looking seat! Thanks!

Hi Bert. Thanks for your comments. The main benefits of a long pole are accuracy and a more delicate presentation. For example, you can fish out in open water and have your bait in exactly the same spot every time. In the margins, you can place your bait tight up to the edge, without having to cast past the area and then retrieve your rig to sink the line. In terms of the rig, it can be much lighter than when fishing a waggler and when baiting up you can use a Pole Pot on the end of the pole to get the loosefeed into a nice tight area. If you were feeding by hand or by catapult, you would not be able to maintain such a tight grouping of bait. The pole normally has elastic through the top 2 sections. To prevent chafing, the tip of the pole is fitted with a PTFE bush. This is often supplemented by the use of a lubricant on the elastic to further help it slide back into the pole. At the other end, the elastic is tied to a bung which is fitted inside the number 2 section. Having said all that, the pole is not something a pleasure angler may wish to use. Many people get on fine with just a normal rod and reel and a waggler float. If you decide to fish matches however, then a pole does become a necessary tool if you want to compete effectively. Hi Scott. I’m glad to see you are all getting back out to do some fishing again. The situation regarding Carp down here is quite the opposite of a stocking policy, I’m afraid. The Government sees them as an Invasive Species and actively plans to eradicate them. The latest plan is to possibly introduce the Carp Herpes Virus to kill them off. Personally, I believe that introducing a virus which the rest of the world is actively trying to prevent, is going to be fraught with other issues, but describing them here would require far too much writing. Suffice it to say that, if you are interested in more information, I suggest you do a Google search for Carp Herpes Virus Australia. With regard to other species, I would love to be able to catch them down here too. There are a few areas where you can catch Roach and Tench, but they all seem to be hundreds of miles from where I live. It is possible to catch Perch as you get down towards Canberra, but these are classed as a Noxious Species too. I hope that covers the answers for you mate. Tight lines.

Let's just say, I'm glad I lost 20lbs on my diet John. Surprisingly, I made it back up the hill in one go....and I could still breath at the end. Lol.
