Line Clip Problems - Lost Fish? Try this instead. Sometimes, when fishing in open water to a Line Clip, the fish take off so fast it is almost impossible to unclip before you get smashed up. In this video I discuss some alternatives to the Line Clip method and show you the one I prefer to use.
The method is really simple, but there are a few things you need to know, so watch the video carefully to see how it works.

Was always the way back in the day before lines clips were a thing and even after they came along we only used them to keep the line neat when tackled down 😂

I had the problem in summer when I had a 65 cm tench on the feeder rod. I didn't get the cord out of the clip that quickly and started sweating.😅 I still got it out anyway. Great video and idea.👍

Great vid once more. I have tried it with my line before but never got it to work it either slips or jambs in my rings! Never thought of elastic so next time I go when the weather does not take my breath away, I will give it a try.

I do this all the time, especially good on the bomb when you don't want to keep dropping it down the same hole. I have it a bit longer as it goes through the rings better. Braid is also an option ,you can remove it with your thumbnail with a few scrapes. Good video, nice weather!

I do something similar Den l use a bait band down by the reel doubled up on its self and your correct it as not got to be spot on but I have a way of releasing the line from the clip quickly by putting some elastic in the clip Cheers Den

Think your feeder was a bit too heavy for that little guy and caused the hook to come out. Loved your videos and little tips and tricks, I've been wondering how to solve this issue so ill try it out. Had a great Method feeder session last and caught 9 carp between 5 and 9lbs. Although it was a freezing day here, not like your sunny December!

I use 2 pieces of bicycle inner tube around the reel. A V cut in the one direct on the reel. Second one over it. Carp can pull the line out with easy. You need distance.sticks or something like that

That clutch seems pretty duff, if I’d paid anymore than £35 I’d be taking it back for something else. I find Okumas have excellent clutches Ps praps try that spot with the polaris next time 😛

I've just received another 2 MAP Carptek 400FD reels with the Automatic Line Clip, Release system. They too have really good clutches, but unfortunately, I needed a much bigger reel for this job. The4000 Fd reels cost about 50 Pounds and I'll do a quick video on them soon.

Great video Den and I will use this myself from now on. Could the clutch issue be improved by using a different thickness of washer? I have not had a problem myself, but think I read/heard this can help?
@FishingwithDen
@FishingwithDen 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks James. You may be right. If I change to either Carbontex or Ice washers, it may help, but the manufacturers are marketing this as a Speed Drag System, so it appears to be an intentional feature. Either way, I don't like it much.

I dont understand why people dont clip up once positioned unclip - before you real in clip up again. Its just about remembering that's all. You can also put a slider knot just above your spool so you clip up to just above the slider knot the slider knot every time before reeling in.

Den i would like to ask u one of my doubt that is when u clip ur line on that line clip of reel, and next u cast ur bait so wouldn't this line clip damage ur main line where u 've clip it? However i liked ur green line marker tied on ur main line as marker.
@FishingwithDen
@FishingwithDen 10 ай бұрын
Hi. I haven't experienced any damage to my line, but I think it depends on a number of factors, as follows: 1. The make of reel and type of line clip it uses. Some reels have better line clips than others. 2. Line strength/Diameter - I use Guru Drag line on my reels. I have 6lb (0.25mm) and 8lb (0.28mm) loaded on mine. (Drag line is similar to Maxima). 3. Don’t use Pre stretched high tech lines for heavy duty use. They may say they are a high breaking strain with a very low diameter, but personally, I don’t find them robust enough. I have also seen anglers use a short length of thin Pole Elastic to protect their line at the line clip. They pull it up under the clip in the same way as with their main line and then cut off the ends. They now have a rubber cushion to help prevent damage. I hope this helps.

Hello Den, what is the diameter of elastic nr 3?
@FishingwithDen
@FishingwithDen Жыл бұрын
Hi Leo. it's 0.75mm, but I have now changed to an elastic which is used for Jewellery (Necklace) stringing. It is 0.5mm diameter.

Hi again den great videos you do. Is there a specific knot you tie to put on the elastic so it doesn't move as I thought the elastic could move especially when going through the eyes of the rod? Aslo most of my feeder rods are light with 1oz to 2oz tips so the eyes are I'm guessing too small for the elastic to go back through when retrieving or casting out ?

@FishingwithDen I think I prefer the original Den, I gave my mate, a pole fisher a bell & ponced some 3mm elastic from him. I'm making floats tomorrow as per your instructions. I'll let you know how I fair this Saturday. All the best, be good...or be fantastic 🐟🪱🎣👍

@@Smiffy830 No worries mate. Although I did find that the original method could lead to line sticking slightly on the spool when using a lighter feeder.
