Gotta say it’s confidence. When I go out second guessing myself I usually don’t do well. When I think I’m gonna find them it makes me work twice as hard to locate fish. Just my opinion.

I was going to say time but I'll go with friends. I can go fishing alone and have a good time, but I need friends and family to have a great time. With friends and family I don't even need to get a bite to have a good, memorable time on the water. Sometimes out on the water alone it's so beautiful I don't bother fishing so I won't count that. Also! How great is it to stumble on a fun channel like yours and then you get to watch all the old videos! Then you get inspired to do new projects or hit a different kind of fish. Thanks so much! Glad to have subscribed.

I have to say that no one has mentioned the number one thing I never go fishing without ~ desire. I have been without many "necessities" and still had success based on determination and passion. The raw willpower to catch the big ones has been the common factor over the years as I have pieced together whatever it takes to make that happen. From fabrication jugs and trot lines to grabbin' em by hand my clear answer is desire, you have to want it bad enough. You know the old saying, "people catch fish, equipment catches people".

Yep! Bank fishing like Catfish Dave is good IF ya have a bank to fish from AND not crowded. But, even Dave turned to what, I believe is the top piece of equipment to have for any type fishing, and that's a boat! Where I am there is very little or few places to stand along the banks to fish catfish. Lowcountry means swampy all around it. Therefore a vessel that can be used to place one where they can present the "rest" of their equipment to bring in the fish is the top priority. Love da mask!

By far, a fish finder. The difference between slaying and getting slayed is casting on top of the fish. You can have the best bait, rig, and boat. You can know the bottom of water bed and how to tell where fish tend to congregate. But if they're not where you're casting when you're casting, it's gonna be a long trip.

Ive never been cat fishing. I'm here to Learn the tips and tricks. This video has pointed out circle hooks, and live bait to be the most important things. Live through bait tanks and cast nets (illegal in my state) and I have heard alot of different things about how circle hooks work to "practically set them-self". Personally taking out the catfish part. when I go fishing the most important thing to me is a strong high lb test anti abrasive line. because when I hook something I dont want it to get away. This has caused an issue for me while I have been looking for a inexpensive rod and reel for catfishing. Ive been looking for a circle reel that can handle 50-60 lb line with a 2nd clutch. also looking for a xtra heavy 8-10ft moderate that can handle that line as well. all on the cheap. Cheapest Ive found is $180 in a combo..

I fish a somewhat clear lake. I have compared catch rates between green Berkley Big Game line and clear mono line and found that clear mono (same test strength) catches almost twice as many catfish as the green Berkley Big Game. I increased catch rates even further when I started using 12# fluoro for my leaders. I know its a light leader, but I switch leaders after almost every catch. I keep lots of circle hooks pre-snelled to make the change out easy.

for me , it would be bait selection. Hotdogs, chicken livers , worms and those stink baits absolutely catch catfish. They catch plenty of good eating sized fish ,but if you're after huge fish you gotta have big baits like big brim and big gizzard shad . Here in Texas the only catfish we can use as bait are Mudcats, some call them pollywogs. Those are some of the best flathead baits you'll ever use

The most important is your bait! I challenge anyone to go fishing w/out any bait; bare hooked, and see how well ya do… I’ve been ‘Stink Baitin’' (Dip Bait) for over 30 yrs and have rarely missed a meal. However, I’ve been trying live and cut bait lately and have watched many of ur videos for pointers; ur videos are informative and entertaining. I particularly enjoyed the dude with a dog chasing ya out of his swimming pool for testing fishing rigs… LOL. I tried ur ‘oatmeal bluegill chum’ and have to say “Thanks” it worked great. Anyhow, see if you can find any 'dip baiters’, they usually hang out in Tx and OK. You can also find ‘em up in trees holding guns! But that's a whole new set of video's... 'Groovy Dave'

Mr Stuff, it saddens me to hear, the most important tool (and that is what all of the other items mentioned are) wasn't mentioned. There was one man that got close when he mentioned his hands, if your not smart enough to use any of or all of the gear mentioned it want do you any good having it. And although everyone takes it with them every where they go, lots of people don't use it properly. And yes, you have probably figured out where I'm going with this (their brain), from their hands to the hook and all the nets and electronics will not catch the fish they are after if they do not use it properly. But all of the answers given by the people you asked were really good. And I do like your diy tutorials, and please keep up the good work. Kudos and salute.

Very well said Sir , your exactly right . And I couldn't agree more . I have a graph and really like it but I find myself using my map more than my sonar . Patience for me. I know it isn't "equipment" but it is something I had to build up a LOT of over my younger years (I have a.d.d). A second choice would be intimate knowledge of all your equipment. I'm aware that catfishing isn't like bass fishing where you carry 84 boxes but you must know the ins and outs of every item. Finally a third (this is a list if I couldn't choose the priors) a vast knowledge of knots.

Believe it or not , catfishing is more complicated than ppl think . There is old school which is like a hook and a chicken liver then there trophy catfishing, i mean you can anchor, drift , trolling , use planer boards , all kinds of Riggs so i totally agree with you . I still bass fish occasionally, and Crappie fish . I enjoyed entering bass tournaments when I was younger . Its fun catching 50 to 80lb fish though . But honestly I love any kind of fishing

I've got too agree with that . I got taught what back in the 80s was called a fishermen's knot after losing a monster i thought my buddy was gonna throw all my fishing gear in the lake he was so mad ,,, because the knot broke and we were in a tournament fishing for money . I never forgot what he taught me that day lol 😆 . And the knit had never let me down

I have to say no one has mentioned the number one thing I never go catfishing without ~ and that is desire. I have been without many "necessities" and still had success based on determination and passion. The raw willpower to catch the big ones has been the common factor over the years as I have pieced together whatever it takes to make that happen. From fabricating jugs and trotlines to grabbin' them by hand my clear answer is desire, you have to want it bad enough. You know the old saying, "people catch fish, equipment catches people."

@@lonniehall9006 Palomar knot, fast and easy to tie, super strong never broke on me once, also goes through the eye of the hook two times as opposed to once.

My most important piece of equipment to go catfishing would be time to go and taking my whole family because fishing without them is not fun at all especially when the fish are not biting LOL 😆

I would say (because most people use more then one rod to fish with) rod holders! I've lost setups off the bank and boat from them not being in a good rod holder

Mine is the hook, Circle hook, hands down. Hell I could use a piece of a branch with a string, as long as I got my hooks! Gamakatsu are my favorite, you can't beat them for the money, the rest are either too expensive or lower quality...

All I have to have is a Zebco 808 and a good rod. I don't have a hook preference. Can catch anything (bait) on a rod and move up to that monster catfish. I can see some thinking the cast net. But that requires more skill and time to do it.
