SLA batteries really only deliver about half of their rated watt-hours before the voltage drops too low to power typical devices. Discharge them further than 50% of their rated capacity and you risk permanent damage. So, that 96wh battery will really only run a 50w load for about 1 hour. The LFP battery you bought would run the same light for nearly 7 hours, so it's essentially 7 times as much battery.

They can be deepcycled 1000s of times, compared to the lead acid ones. I replaced stairlift SLAs with lifepo4s and went to test the stairlift. Burned out the mofsets after 300 trips up and down on the lift. Batteries still at 50% charge! The lead ones lasted like 20 times on a charge.

The specs say it can maintain 1500w and peak at 3000W. I also packed a WeBoost cell booster in there for better hotspot coverage in an emergency. The new 200w solar panel design is bi-facial and grabs some of the reflected sunlight off the ground. I was pulling 160W without having the perfect angle.

Love how you've figured this out. There's a channel I think it's Ice Hole Fishing, that does these for Ice Fishing. You can buy the built box or the kit with or without the battery from him. Has an LED light to shine on what you're working on. (Tying a rig on) But the thing I liked was a light cup. I guess water is dark so they use fluorescent lures and the cup makes them glow. Use to fly fish at night with glowing flies and had to hold it under a flashlight. With the cup you can throw a couple in and when the one you're using starts to get weak, pull another one out of the cup.

Depending on the kind of power supply you have, you might be able to skip the "wall charger" port and just charge the battery through the solar charge controller. More detailed description below. Usually, solar charge controllers are designed to accept a wide range of voltages. As an example, say 12 to 48 volts. You'd have to read the manual for your specific controller. Regardless, the solar charge controller shouldn't really care where the input power is coming from, as long as it's DC and in that voltage range. Some problems might arise if you try to connect a car battery charger to the solar charge controller. If you don't have a trickle charger, then the wall adapter might change its output voltage depending on the charge level of the battery. This has the potential to confuse some car battery chargers since they won't be seeing the batteries' voltage. So what this means is that if you have something like an old laptop charger, you could cut off the old connector and make a new one, then use that to charge this system through the solar charge controller port!

This is a brilliant setup. My only comment of concern is the power switch and how it is wired. Most switches that style are not rated for the amperage that you will able to pull out of that cigarette outlet with the power inverter, the switch will eventually overheat and melt. It should really be wired into a relay so the switch is energizing the relay to power up the rest of the outlets.

Finally, a youtube video suggestion thats worth its salt ❤ (or at least entertaining 😂) Definitely considering makin one 🤔 but I need to finish re-kitting my trunk survival stuff 😂 (I upgraded to a suv from a sedan, so now I have to redo everything)

This is a very cool build, and thanks for taking the time to post the links as well. Just a thought, have you ever considered adding a retractable cord on the inside so you always have some sort of an extension cord? I'm thinking something compact like a vacuum cleaner retractable cord. They can easily handle around a 1,000 watts or around 8 to 9 amps at 120vac. I have never seen anyone add something like this, but to me, it just seems like it could be pretty handy, and really an advantage to why you should build your own, and add a lot of custom features to it. Amazon has all sorts of replacement retractable cords that are pretty reasonable. Keep up the great work.

Awesome! I have a couple of 20mm ammo cans that I can put 2 battreys in. Gonna be a little heavier, but worth the weight

You could tie in a couple of LED lights on the right side of the box with a switch and have some light when you needed it. Would have to figure out the wiring, but shouldn't be too hard to do.

Your builds are great, bending the connectors to fit is good but for future builds they make a flag or 90° connector so you don't have to bend them. Just a thought. 😉😎

FYI, you don’t need a separate input for the wall charger. The mppt will pull what the battery needs, and control either solar, or wall charger watts. Then you can use any laptop charger to charge the box.

Those lifepo4 batteries can't handle as much current draw, but they can be deepcycled 1000s of times! They're lighter and have more capacity, but they can't jumpstart a car.

The panel you use is good in itself. Using a larger panel will not be suitable for your 10a Mppt charge controller. Also, the battery is better because the smaller one you showed is a led acid battery which means you can only use it at 50% capacity.

With that case I was thinking a slightly different layout. I was thinking that the storage area on the lid would be a good place to place the controls and connections. Also in regard to the Charge controller you could add a switch between the battery and the controller. I have also considered doing a laser cut style can insert that would make it an enclosed box but that limits the capacity even more but it does give the ability to connect an external battery bank. maybe another box with just batteries and a connection.

Add a Solid State Relay to turn off the MPPT controller via the On/Off switch. That way, you don't have remember to unplug the MPPT.
