Thanks for the quick reply. I'll need to put one of these on my to-get list. I was thinking about trying the Jam Man first...I think it's free or very cheap...just to get something going. It looks like the MIDI guitar + Omnisphere combo is getting more popular too. Have you ever heard of Mark Wingfield? He's over on band camp. He has his guitar using Roland MIDI to a Roland MIDI controller, a VG-88, and plugging into a MacBook pro that has Omnisphere and Waves plugins. He also has a Sustainiac installed. He's the first guitarist I've seen that has a guitar so fully loaded. His music sounds really good, if you like free form jazz, of course.

Thank you for weighing in, John. I might have finally figured out what I was doing wrong: I was opening Omnisphere directly from within my DAW (Logic Pro X) and then trying to make changes to my picking dynamics from within the Triple Play user interface opened separatly. This is what was suggested to me and it never worked. I now believe that the correct way of doing this is to simply add "Triple Play" as the instrument within the DAW and then choose "Omnisphere" from within the Triple Play interface. I guess I was thinking of Omnisphere as a whole separate instrument and that Triple Play would act as the controller (which it does) but it did not occur to me that I would have to use the Triple Play as the 'instrument' and then add Omnisphere from within Triple Play. Now I can adjust all of my playing dynamics to the left side of the screen as you suggested and it all works. However, I still have to close out of the Omnisphere 2 VST in order to adjust individual string sensitivity because it is otherwise disabled when Omnisphere is open. So, I make the adjustments and then re-open the VST. If only I could enjoy the kind of tracking and precision that Dominik displays my life would be perfect! Thanks for your help and I hope that my comments here might help some who was taking the wrong approach, as I was.

A very rewarding feeling once everything is routed properly, outboard effects add to this breathtaking world of new sounds. The bends are nicely done here. His system is tweaked for playability. +Dominik Hardy, I'm a guitarist who bought a Motif XS workstation. That taught me to think more like the instrument I was playing, and not like a guitarist. I'm unique in the things I play because I don't think like a keyboard player or guitarist - but phrasing. ...I will say this for you - you have that sensitivity. I can tell. All guitarist can try to do an SRV run, or David Gilmour lines. Some people mimic and few master the phrasing. ....You have an instinct. I suspect because it comes natural to you, you assume everyone will master "Taste and touch". ...............It's a compliment. You have 'taste' and 'technique'.

Dominik, I fell in love with your fretless bass + lapsteel combination sound, and I bought Omnisphere in order to replicate it. But no joy. Based on a question below, I now understand they are custom voices, not Omnisphere presets. Is there any chance you could share them in some form? Maybe just some tips on what preset you started with and how you modified it? Dominik, compliments for you great video and great demo of the FTP. Dominik I bought an FTP recently and I put it on my Stratocaster. I don’t know what I made wrong but a lot of extra (wrong) notes are randomly added along the notes I really play. What is the right setup (distance FTP from strings, tuning)? Is it possible this is only due to guitar slightly out of tune? Thanks in advance
@doha16967 ай бұрын
Hi, your problems are not coming from your « Strat »… To play synth guitar you need to have a completely clean technique. Then, your guitar must be perfectly tuned. The exa pickup must be correctly installed on your guitar, not to far from the strings but not too near…. Be careful with the ftp soft, it can also be your friend, or your best enemy depending on how it is set… if you need infos about guitar synth, come on my website Fret-time.com… Bye Dom

RESOLVED: I am loving my new Triple Play and Omnisphere! I'm still not sure what the best way is to set these up together. The Triple Play user manual can be confusing to say the least. I found that I can now choose "Omnisphere" in the plugins dropdown but I am uncertain about how to adjust string sensitivity, picking, etc. now as it is no longer possible within the main FTP window for individual strings. I would like to be able to make sensitivity and other adjustments while hearing them in real time in Omnisphere but I am not having much luck. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the inspiration, Dominik!
@mrjteele3 жыл бұрын
In the TriplePlay Mac and Windows software you should be able to see and adjust all of the settings. The string sensitivity settings are in the same location as the tuner; above the TriplePlay logo in the middle, there is a switch that is labelled "Levels" on one side and "Tuner" on the other. Make sure it is set to Levels when you want to adjust the string sensitivities. Picking style is adjusted per-patch, so on the left side of the main window double-click on "Split 1" to open the Parameters window for Split 1, in that window you can adjust pick vs fingers, overall sensitivity, and quite a bit more. There are also settings in Options/Preferences. Hope this helps!

Hi, for me, the fTP tracking is better but it realy dépends on the sourds you play… The big + with the FTP is that you can play any sound you like using your daw virtual synths… ther’s a pedal switch possible with the FTP but it’s not sold with the pickup, you have buy it apart…

How would you compare the default fishman triple play sounds with these Spectrasonics Omnisphere?
@doha169610 жыл бұрын
Sample Tank and Reaktor are very good alternatives if you can afford the complete versions, the Fishman "offer" already allows essential sounds such as flutes, string pads, pianos and more. Please help I bought this because of your video.
@doha16967 жыл бұрын
Hi John, I'm not using separate midi channels per strings, just one channel for the six strings. The tracking depends on many parameters. The first of all is the way you installed the pickup on your guitar (isn't it too far from the strings, things like that...) Then, as for every guitar synth, you must have a very "clean" and detailed playing, you can't imagine playing synth sounds on a guitar the same way you just play guitar... You can find infos on my site : Fret-Time.com but it's a French site...

Hi Dominik. Love your compositions. I'm using a VG-99 as a midi interface to drive Omnisphere pads in Ableton Live 8 but I'm getting the Triple Play this week. So far, as long as I keep the Pitch Bend at "0" there is not too much note wandering. It's way too limiting though as I'd like to be to use bends and tremolo. Does the TriplePlay track more accurately than the VG-99 for driving soft synths. Is there a place where you post your pertinent TriplePlay and DAW settings to get that incredible sound. For example, your amazing acoustic guitar sounds that play just like a guitar, I have not been to get anything close to that with the Omnisphere Hans Zimmer guitars samples triggered through the VG99. Thanks for your insights.

+efe kavçık It may work with Trillian, the same way as Omnisphere. Hi Dominik, amazing demo and playing! Do you know if there´s any soft synth that have a gr300 (metheny) like sound to pair with the triple play? I want the triple play but if I cant get that sound its like there´s something missing for me. Thanks!!

There are many softs to simulate those GR sounds. Omnisphere can do it but it's not the only way. You can also use most of the Native Instruments and IK Multimedia softs for that. The last solution consists in sampling a real GR300 and use the samples in a sampler soft such as EXS 24 or another one... You may work hard to program the sounds you need but it's great experience and satisfaction to make your own presets and play them...

***** Thanks for the replay Dominic. I´ve never done any synth programing, I´m just a tweaker, so it looks a bit hard, but, yes Omnisphere is so amazing that makes a guitar player want to have those sounds available too. Does the triple play track better than the roland stuff?

great video, do you still use the Triple Play, or was this just for the video?

Great playing Dominik! Do you need the foot controller to use the triple play? Im asking because here in Argentina its kind of pricey to buy the wireless system and the foot controller, thanks!

You don't need a foot controller.

What's the latency like? By which I mean what's the latency like between the pickup and it's dongle?
