vguitarforums was useful for new users to get acquainted. I’ve had it for a couple years and learned you don’t need Fishman software plugin, necessarily. You don’t need their synths. You can use the FTP with anything. It’ll play drums. Anything. And you don’t need their plug-in. It looks like it’s built for children. There are sensitivity controls, in their software app, and that will adjust the number of stray notes that come with misfret stings. It is tracking all of your movements, the sensitivity is crucial. After that, you can play all your synths real time, record the MIDI, record the audio that tracks from the synths, or exclude data tracking such as for use live. Velocity, probably the most important aspect, will allow you to hear all of your samples in new detail. Sample libraries include everything from soft to hard hit instruments. Nice to hear a Rhodes keyboard come to life and break up in distortion, for example. I love it.

I've owned a Fishman for a few years and a Godin Synth Access guitar before that. Try doubling your lead guitar with a Taurus bass pedal sound à la Geddy Lee for early 80s Rush fun. Mellotron tones make me all misty as a King Crimson fan from way back. Good as my Fishman is it still doesn't do guitar bends and vibrato but the synth in Axe Fx III does and it tracks really well. Maybe do a video on that. Always enjoy your videos Leon.

This is nice! I'm so close to getting an FTP, but I'm very curious: is FTP really more accurate than the Midi Guitar 2 app? A lot of people say that this app is nearly as accurate as the FTP, but I assume they only tried the app on an electric guitar, and that it wouldn't compare as well on an acoustic. As I do only play on acoustic, I think I will be better off with the FTP than with Midi Guitar 2. Could you please give it a try and compare it? The app is free (in demo mode which would be enough to compare). Thank you.

awesome =) in a strange coincidence i just bought one of these the other week, attached to my strat, using it as a controller in say Ableton , which is really cool, translating guitar style playing to other instruments/sounds out of interest what sort of sensitivity across the strings did you settle on? did that take a long time to tweak? on mine the radius on fishman pickup means the D / G string are considerably closer than the other strings, took a little while to get things right, picking everything helps a lot

I bought one of these to use with my mac and not with the ipad app. The one I bought was the wired one. Setting it up was very simple. My issue was that I didn't get on with it but the same happened to me with the software Midi Guitar 2, so it must be something with my way of playing. It didn't respond as I imagined it. Again, it might have just been me because other people don't seem to have issues so... One thing I really want is to have one of my electric guitar using Nylon strings, so I'm looking for pickup choices etc. There's no pedals I know or guitar effects that will make electric guitar strings sound like a nylon guitar. That would be great!!!! :)

@Leon Todd - definitely interested in seeing more content with this. It's great that you are interested in synths and utilizing the guitar to explore the synth world. I'm definitely a better guitar player than a keyboard player but enjoy playing keys too. Now they have keyboard controllers with isomorphic layout (like guitar) so if you are good with chords on guitar and scales, you can play them on the keyboard. Roger Linn's Linnstrument controller is setup in isomorphic layout and so is the Synthstrom Deluge. I don't have the Linnstrument, but do have a Deluge. It's an interesting approach to playing keys that a guitar player can understand. The Midi pickup and actual guitar is of course the easiest for a guitarist to get. Great stuff.
