Thank you Sir! The trains are a bit boring in this one and I'll be happy to see more grain and intermodal than coal. We need to get away from coal (for power use) and move on. There's more money to be made, by a wider group of people , in renewables and intermodal and other traffic. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the support! Cheers Gregg.

When I traveled on the mount Isa and Charleville trains they had taken the sleeper coaches off Greg.The consist was two coaches plus generator,baggage cars , and sitting in a reclining seat was tiring.However I enjoyed the trip even the free sandwiches for lunch and tea.To me it seemed like both trains were just hanging in there and I am so glad was able to experience it. Excellent narration and videography. As you will no doubt attract a worldwide audience, the historical information will be most informative. From the early 1980s when I first travelled on the 'North Mail' (or 'North West Mail) to Tenterfield and Moree respectively, and branch lines like to Barraba on HPC402 'Creamy Kate' (a railcar), this was one of my favourite rail areas in NSW even though I'm from Melbourne.

If I were to say "nice looking hoppers" here in the states I'd get slapped and publicly shamed on twitter. Thank you for the hopper car details. When i worked for the RR (1990's) there was some experimentation for electronic braking on unit trains but nothing became of it. Not sure now. I love the fact that you guys have hand brakes eye level and facing sideways so the crews have good access. Very professional and nicely done video. You're making my COVID isolation pleasant !

Great documentary Gregg, the passenger train reminds me of the Swiss system. So each car is powered? You stated that coal is being weaned, we have been seeing that in the states. The Power River basin see less coal trains, unfortunately both UP and BNSF will have to shed some of their lines when that happens. UP now see little coal traffic on the old DRGW mainline. Therefore we will never see Tennessee Pass opened again. Hopefully you are staying warm down there, I heard it’s really cold. Cheers from hot and humid Nebraska. Terry.
@FishplateFilms
@FishplateFilms 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Terry! I think each car is powered on the "Explorer" Coal certainly has been a big part in shaping the modern world, but it's time to move on to a cleaner and less monopolised power source. People in the city don't see the pollution from power plants and the millions of litres of diesel used to get the coal to the furnace! Even the microscopic dust blown off coal trains is very harmful to people's health and down her we are still seeing "Black lung" disease , which miners got back in the early days of underground mining. Theres plenty of freight for trains other than coal , so that's where the focus is needed now. The weather has been ok , a few chilly nights but nothing like Nebraska..LOL Cheers Gregg.

13:38 Actually it's not split "in half" as it's 5 cars, three continue to Armidale via Tamworth, while the rear *two* carriages(cars) are shunted over to the western platform to continue on to Moree via Gunnedah. It would only be split in half if there were 6 cars, with three to Armidale and three to Moree.

Never mind the putrid yellow mate, why so much soot?
@FishplateFilms
@FishplateFilms 4 жыл бұрын
These trains travel through some long tunnels, depending on the mine location, with one requiring the drivers to carry oxygen in the cabs! In the long tunnels, the engines become starved for air and can run rich and produce more soot( less on modern computer controlled diesels) so the last loco cops all the exhaust soot. The shade of yellow does not help , as the PN trains look much cleaner! Cheers Gregg.

If Australia wants to have a less pollutiing rail system, then the country should adopt an European style rail system that relies upon electric freight and passenger locomotives.
@FishplateFilms
@FishplateFilms 4 жыл бұрын
Europe is lucky Joe, as they generate most of their rail power from Hydro Electric power stations . Electric trains that run on coal fired power stations are not much cleaner than their diesel cousins. Of course electric trains in cities make sense from a local pollution point of view. Of course clean powered rail is the best option if you can get it. Cheers Gregg.
