Thank you, I'm actually starting to slowly convert back my tanks to under gravel filtration, using the plenum system that Dr. Novak talks about.

I like how your fish room is coming along. It's pretty awesome to start with plants in one tank and get to propagate them to spread to many other tanks.
@mexicalifishkeeper2 жыл бұрын
I really didn't have a choice. Since all we have locally is a PetSmart. They don't really have a lot of choices when it comes to plants. To be able to have this many plants has taken me a few years of growing out trimming to the point where I had enough to propagate to other tanks.

Just stumbled across your channel, awesome! Hope you don't mind if I share a bit of my 57+ years in the hobby. Regarding plenums, same thing as an undergravel filter. Really no need for fertilizer enriched soil as the water flows through the gravel an up the tubes. Using liquid ferts would work just fine. For best long term success (decades) using 2 to 3 inches of gravel and regularly gravel vacuum really helps. An UGF only supports aerobic bacteria and not anaerobic as the oxygenated water flows through the gravel. Dirted/soil substrates... The nutrients in the soil jump starts the plants and their root systems. After a few years the nutrients are depleted unless you have a good balance of nutrients returning to the substrate. That could be from fish waste, decaying plant matter or root tabs.
@mexicalifishkeeper2 жыл бұрын
Awesome, I'm always looking to learn more. I recently returned to the hobby after a very long hiatus. I only been back for about 6 years now. I really like planted tanks, so any information on improving my ability to keep plants is always welcomed. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with me.

Your fishroom and aquascapes are super nice! I like all the albino corys, they are a fav of mine that I do not have , but I hope to breed them soon. Thanks for the great tour💯⭐️🙂
@mexicalifishkeeper2 жыл бұрын
With the Corys, I have been able to trigger their breeding by doing a huge water change whenever we have a low pressure front moving into our area. That has always worked for me. The only thing is that you have to pull the eggs out and place them in their own tank or container. I don't have methylene blue to add to the eggs so I use cherry shrimp to do the same work. They clean the eggs and prevent them from getting fungus.

I would take a empty tank...well empty as in no livestock fully planted throw your bosemani pair in it for 2 weeks and remove them, over the course of 2 more weeks you should have tons of fry hatching and grow out a big school of beautiful Bosemani!!? That angelfish tank is my favorite the rockscape is on point all your tanks are wonderful I love it

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely have to setup a breeding tank for them and i think I have just the right tank for that. To the real challenge will be growing out the fry.
