Nice video and always good to show ‘issues’ in the tank and how to tackle them. From my own experience, I would use far less nutrient rich substrates in those biotope style tanks. Sand or fine gravel with some root tabs where needed is usually enough and keeps the algae away. I do think your new American flag fish need algae so keep that in mind. Nice fish.

You do have 2 male flag fish in the tank, i breed those so i can have an infinite fleet of algae eaters. When they are young the males dont have the black eye spot on their dorsal fin that females do. If they are very very young (basically just out of the fry stage) they may have a faded eyespot that eventually will fade away.

An Amazon tank is it? Silver dollars are nice, but they will out grow the tank eventually. I have some Emperor Keri (Purple)tetras. They kind of spread out all over the aquarium rather than shoaling or schooling. Maybe Pigmy hatchets? They do school, and because they have such a different shape, they are a real eye catcher. A pair or trio of rams would add a lot of colour to the tank, and would be something different from the ever so common neon or cardinal tetras. I seem to remember that you already have some pigmy corys, but maybe a more regular sized cory (or whatever they're calling them now) for the bottom? Another one that could be really interesting if you were able to get them are one of the wild species of swordtail, such as the Rio Atoyac, Aztec, or Mountain swordtails. The mountain swords are smaller than all the other subspecies of sword, but have ridiculously long swords. Both the Aztec and the Mountain swords have a caudal fin which is reminiscent of an Aztec headdress in profile. They are all speckled green in colour and have swords which are red outlined in black on the males. Females, of course, do not have swords. Us ladies are demure and peaceful, even as fish. Just as I wrote that, a dozen or so exceptions came to mind, so maybe I should have prefaced it with "Usually". Lots of situations where it's "You'd better play nice or I'll cut off your balls!" That would be piranha, and they're a bit too big anyhow.

@FishShopMattАй бұрын
It's definitely on the borderline of what I would suggest. If planted well and maintained well you shouldn't have too many issues. But remember with that small a tank everything will be far more volatile and can go wrong quicker. But as long as you're careful and maintain the tank well you should be able to do it.

I also got some of these rice fish last Friday! Five of them are living with my Blue Dreams now. They're a bit expensive at Diebo. Had thought of buying them in Soest at Shrimpmania, but it's a bit further away and that route has loads of speed cameras. Been there once and managed to navigate without exceeding the speed limits. But with a lot of changes in speed limit, that is kind of nerve wracking. Besides, Diebo is close to the office as well so I can pop after work. I'm hoping to breed them so I'll have more of them.

I love the fact you're choosing which fish shop to go to, because one has less speed cameras on the route hahaha. It's great when you breed a fish that's a little bit expensive. Makes you feel like you've got something back.
@TheRealTMarАй бұрын
@@FishShopMatt I don´t mind speed cameras, but what is kind of unsettling is the speed limit switches from 80 kph to 50 kph and vice versa a lot because you´re passing through very small villages along the way. Since I´ve started driving in 2012 I´ve never been fined and I´d like to keep that clean record. Because when I go to Diebo, there are speed cameras on the parallel road of the A12 but the speed limit doesn´t change all the time. My did get photographed there a while ago....

Hi Matt. I love how the tanks are coming along, I can't wait to see this new imaginary fish room you have been talking about it sounds like it will be big enough to hold 1000s of tanks😂 how about a tour now please I know I am interested in what it takes to work out the floor plan plumbing and electrical, and the racking systems I know when I got my 560litre 5 foot tank and still had my 4 foot tank I realised do I really need to bucket water in and out? Then I dragged the hose through the house 🤔 not very practical, to know I have it plumbed so I can empty both 5 foot tanks via 1 inch pvc pipe outside and fill them up just as easily just by turning a couple of taps on or off. Lighting is done with smart switches, same for C02 just waiting on a couple of temp smart switches to come so I can remotely turn tank heaters on or off depending on the weather I also have 2 automatic feeders one on each tank with battery backup I'm home most of the time but occasionally have to go to Perth for a few days for apts and shopping and knowing life goes on as usual at home Well it happened all those Mollies around 150 of them,I told you about, I took to Perth with me last week, and had arranged a buyer for the whole lot to go into his new 10 foot tank I asked 120$ Audi he was so impressed he gave me 150$ 😁 I also gave him a heap of plant trimmings, most with roots on them as well, So today I have ordered my first ever mail order fish from the other side of Australia Blue Acara 3.5cm x 4 Black Widow Tetra 3cm x 6 Gold Ram 3.5cm x 6 Blue Ram 3.5cm x 4 Congo Tetra 4cm x 8 Lace Pearl Gourami 5cm x 8 They will be here tomorrow (Tuesday my time ) I made a mistake on the quantity of Pearl Gouramis I ordered 4 to many, oh well I will let them pair up select the best 2 pair, let the other 4 double in size and maybe trade them for something else or sell them for what the 8 cost me initially. hopefully Can't wait for your next video Matt you and MD are the ones I enjoy the most, especially being British you are so simular to our mannerisms here in Australia and don't scream into the camera like most American's do on most topics on KZbin it's almost like they are all deaf and can't hear themselves speak so they shout to compensate. Take care Tony from Rural Western Australia 🇦🇺 🦘

There Will 100% be a vlog of the garage being built. it's definitely going to be a long process and a bit of a labor of love. Rome wasn't built in a day though and I'm not even sure what to do. I might not put that much racking in there and I might end up just buying aquariums with cabinets so that I can show everyone what it's like to run aquariums at home rather than some racking system with 20 tanks on. But I'll probably end up doing both. That's great to hear about the mollies and a bit of a winner with the new fish. I look forward to hearing how they get on. I'm sure you can squeeze in the eight gouramis somewhere surely?

@@FishShopMatt hi Matt I sent a reply but it isn't showing up under your reply, so hear goes again have a look at SerpaDesign his fish room was recently upgraded by himself, with hammer drill and wood, The look and atmosphere is amazing I would love to emulate it My 2 x 5 foot tanks and a small quarantine tank are in my bedroom and I brought an airless spray gun over a year ago to spray my bedroom but haven't gotten around to it yet (far easier than hand/brush painting oh well one thing at a time as you say) with the setup of the fish room Matt I hear what you are saying re tank and cabinet as apposed to racking (I scored a heap of pallet racking from a pet place next to a computer shop I was visiting at the time, the pet shop was redecorating and chucked a whole large skip bin of it out I have a lwb Toyota HiAce van so I loaded it up with as much as I could to keep for Ron (later on) it was a gift to good to leave behind if we lived closer Matt it would be yours mate. You take stuff like that and find a use later, the steel alone is worth every cent I paid grin) But remember this is your fish room Matt you have to live with it every day let those who follow gain your knowledge on how you set you your fish room how you want to and in a way that is easy on maintaining "feed a man a fish, feed him for a day, teach him how to fish, and feed him for a lifetime" I'm sure your subscribers are interested in the best ways of setting up tanks for ease of water changes, empting, bulk air lines (my 310 Litre 5 foot I have a 4 output air pump going into a 1 inch pvc pipe buried in the back of the tank with 4 air stones coming out the air pump is variable volume silent and this works brilliantly I did almost the same thing on my 560 litre 5 foot tank as well, with your experience you have im sure a wealth of tips and shortcuts to offer in setting up a multi tabt setup without needing to drill a tank for example I spent time in working out how to fill or empty my tanks the easiest rather than with a bad back carrying in and out buckets if water or dragging a hose through the house, to what seems easy to us, normal people (🤔😂) may not consider We are coming along on your journey of how you do things if people don't like it or any channel Matt you are just a click away from them unsubbing so show people what you are doing to make your fish room work as well as possible, if people can use some of your tips and tricks to improve their setups you have succeeded in sharing, but trolls are just as likely to stress you more than to good comments and no matter your good intentions they will effect you more so you may as well bring people along rather than fit into what you think strangers want and not only get trolled but for ever more regret the inconvenience in your own fish room running properly. I'm still waiting for my fish to come 4616kms across Australia here into outback Western Australia it's all exciting stuff to me my first shipment of live fish ever and add to it my 98 year old mum was taken to hospital yesterday by ambulance and has a spot of phnemonia on her lung I can't go anywhere and add to it I have to prepare for a colonoscopy on Friday starting tomorrow (Wednesday} what a pain in the a$$ what a shame I have to cancel, besides I have nobody to drive me over and back (a total of 50kms) to the hospital and stay with me for 24hours Matt can you contact me on Facebook Messenger please (Tony Lush) I would prefer to not clog up your comments section with our diatribe that isn't needed to be their and is easier to communicate appropriately there than here Tony
