Great video and solid editing! I just picked up a 14.5' Solo Skiff that's also roto molded over foam and it allows incredible 3 and 4 inch range. 8HP prop, as jet drive would be way too large for this skiff. Lot's of similar flexibilities between our two boats...

I'm looking at buying one of these for uprunning rivers in the class 3 range, did you ever smear a rock? how did the boat respond?
@fishwithjd Жыл бұрын
I ran a lot of Class III stuff in that thing. I never hit a rock hard but that's the beauty of the roto-molded hull. You can't really break it...plus its so slippery you slide off stuff really easily.
@joelophoff6304 Жыл бұрын
@@fishwithjd How did it handle in class 3 and did you have issues with weight distribution? Did you ever worry about freeboard with 3 people on board? Sorry for all the ?'s, you're the only person I found using this boat in the way I intend to. My biggest concern is for passenger safety since their isn't really any add on's for passengers if sitting on a cooler mid boat.

great video. don't know if you are still replying, but I have same set up w a 50/35 tohatsu. Did you have an electric tilt/ trim switch so you could trim up jet while under power "just in case?"
@fishwithjd2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. No I intentionally went with the non power tilt. That way I could unlock the tilt mechanism. That way, if you hit something, it kicks the motor up and causes less damage.

Considering picking one of these up! Was wondering how it rows? Specifically through some of the heavier water you have in this vid, does it do well rowing through that type of water?

yeah super cool rig for sure! The 40/30 is great with 1 but feels a little underpowered with 2-3. But I’m not sure you’d get a 60/40 on there (from a weight standpoint)

how did u feel about the driver positioning on the tiller from a standing position. looks a little awkward with that bench seat there
@fishwithjd3 жыл бұрын
I always stand when running a tiller...just feel better that way. The bench straddle is a bit awkward but have run so many small Jon boats with the same floor plan it doesn’t bother me. If I were designing the boat, however, I certainly would make that area nice and open.

We have run at the mouth of the river at the Chesapeake Bay in a Small Craft Advisory. Wouldn't want huge sea, but the wind chop of 1-2 ft bangs you around a bit. The rotomolded hull makes landing softer than a welded Aluminum boat. Best with weight up forward. I love JD's bench seat. May have to copy that.
@seanriley3931 Жыл бұрын
How does it ride in those conditions? Is it a wet ride? Really considering this boat for skiff fishing here in Texas. Don’t expect to be fishing big open/deep water with it but will need to egress through some of it to get where I am going. Unfortunately not a ton of these out there and haven’t seen much covered on this in any reviews.
