Excellent splitting axe I have been using mine for about 7 years. One big problem I let an idiot borrow it one day and being in a hurry he took to a big red oak round with the plastic sheath still on the axe head. Needless to say the sheath shattered into many pieces. I explained my problem to Fiskars and they were nice enough to replace it free! That same idiot keeps his wallet in my back pocket and is sleeping with my wife. She never was a good judge of character.

I know a similar dummy that failed to fully tighten the gas cap on his new chainsaw, and dumped a whole damn tank down his leg.

I fell in love with these mauls back when the first tv commercials came out. The video of the skidder running over the handle and you could not tell sold me. I've always split until I was too tired and then you know what happens. I got really good at replacing handles over the years. The time came when I broke the main maul handle and the back up maul handle and decided to spend the money. I'm cheap. The first time I got tried it and got tired and missed I went out and bought its little brother. I even have the hatchet, and will look real hard at any Fiskars product. .

"Oh... subscribe, what ever" - Spoken by a man who's been working :) I've used the X27 for a several years now and I love mine. Growing up, we heated with wood, and since buying my house, I've also been heating with wood. I've been splitting by hand since I was 12, and I'll be 49 next month. Until 2 years ago, I didn't own a hydraulic splitter. I literally wore out the handle on my mauls ever couple of years (no, there were no overstrikes, I can just swing them really hard). I'm putting off surgery on my shoulder, so I don't swing any of my mauls any more, but the X27 will still split over half of my firewood (mostly hickory) every year. There are things that the X27 can't split, but an 8lb maul can, but those things are best split with hydraulics :)

Ive had one for about a year, and use mine every other day, splitting white and red oak, hickory and black locust like a champ. Works great, just keep it sharp and keep chopping.

With the fiberglass handle, you can swing straight through to the far side of the rounds. Such a great tool.

@@Peachmountainfarmthere is always some one to tell you your doing it wrong your splitting easy wood. But I don’t see any of those people out there doing it themselves to show us all how it’s done. I bet they don’t leave their ez chair

Red oak is one of the best firewood to burn. Who cares if its easy to split. I've split maple , cherry , ash , white and red oak.

I bought the x 25 years ago the x 27 would be better for me. The x25 is perfect for a short person. The handle is indestructible. I’ve beat this handle into logs and it shrugs it off. Over all nice light weight splitter. Works good on fresh straight red oak and pine logs. Anything knotty forget it.

I've been looking at them Fiskers axes, but a little pricey for made in China. I'm safer with a splitting wedge & sledge hammer.
