"To hit your max speed, you have to engage your core to stabilise your body" I love that piece of advice. All movement is improved by taking a moment to think about what your core is doing - is it engaged? It's such a big group of muscles but it is really easy to forget to use them.

I have been doing half of these without even knowing these things, wow. I'm completely new to running. I have made great progress compared to myself, but now I hit a wall with shin splint pain :/ I gave it a 6 day rest, but it looks like it wasn't enough, today it came back at the end of my run

This was so interesting and beautifully made. Love it ! I tried running many times (programs of few times a week or daily) and I always ended up stopping because my knee would hurt. Do you think it could be because I was doing static stretches ? It makes me sad because I enjoy running with my dog !

Kelyrin's Cooking & Bento Try switching which part of your body is taking the impact. Switch to toe-striking and study the economy of running. Knee damage is common when we land all of our weight on our heels, leaving our knees to absorb the shock. Over time, this causes joint degradation. Also, if you land in a way that lets your knee get in front of your toes, the joint has to compensate to keep your body erect. Over time, this causes strain. Do note, however, that the Achilles is susceptible to damage in toe-strike running. So warm up with jump rope or jumping jacks and focus on starting slowly, getting your form right, and recovering effectively (stretch, nutrition, sleep, rest).

Thank you so much for your advice Jared Grossman !! English is not my first language so I had to look some things up (like toe-striking and economy of running), but it helped me a lot ! I will definitely follow your advice next time :) I know I have a problem when I walk, run and do jumping rope, I struggle a lot to be "lighter" (I'm more like an elephant hahah) and I know this is not good !

+Kelyrin's Cooking & Bento you need to strengthening your lower body muscles as well, do squats and lunges, make sure you do it right tho, or else it will damage your knees

+Kelyrin's Cooking & Bento Beginners should not run on concrete, it would be ideal to run in the woods or something. Also you can get your running technique checked somewhere, make sure you are doing it right.

Haddi lovee do exactly what's recommended in the video :) a very good warm up is essential!!! spend more time on dynamic warm up, for you in the beginning it's the best!

+Tatyana Mishchenko I have started running half marathons at 14 and always used static stretches. It did not hurt me at all, I was in the top 5 percent of my age group every time. It really doesnt make that muc of a difference. In fitness especially, big companies try to convince naive people that they are doing it all wrong just to sell their own products.

The most important thing will always be the perfect running technique. You can get yours analysed somewhere, the most common mistake is to land on your heels. Also its quite normal that when you start running your body feels rather uncomfortable at first. Over time you should be fine, just dont start running at concrete but rather on a treadmill or idealy in the woods.

I suggest jogging and doing basic dynamic stretching along with static to warm up the body. I jog about a lap on a track and then do stretching and little workouts such as jumping jacks until I break a sweat.

Lol, this is misleading The only way to build endurance, a bigger engine, is to run more and run further. Speed work makes you faster but that needs to be done only with a significant mileage base

Muscles come in different for a lot of people depending on what you eat. The workouts would essentially be the same but if you want a different build you have a different diet.

Bullshit, the human physique is especially designed for running. Our spine and legs have the perfect shock absorbtion. If you like cycling good for you.

False, your horrendous form and lack of physical conditioning (aka physical de-conditioning) s bad for your knees. The bike also exhausts your legs before you can truly hit the upper thresholds of your aerobic capacity. It almost becomes about minimizing the lactic acid in you quads so you can keep going rather than just focusing on form and breathing like you can with running (where improving your v02max and adaptation occurs, you can't even get there because your legs hit failure and lose power). Also, the benefits you get from conditioning in the feet, ankles, knees, hips, spine are almost in paralleled especially in comparison to a movement like sitting (which is bad for you any ways) on a bike which only tests your legs with a massive emphasis on your quads and barely anything else lol. Both are good exercises, but when it comes to overall benefits and the movement that we as humans were specifically designed to do and to do WELL it's running.

You could not possibly be more wrong about cycling. www.cyclingweekly.com/fitness/fitness-guide-how-to-improve-vo2-max-158328 Running is the absolute least efficient form of exercise. You see much better fitness gains with even the simplest form of resistance training, such as weights, or.. cycling up hills. Running, unless you are a sprinter, will never cause enough stress on your muscles to cause change and adaptation (hypertrophy). This is why runners are lean. Its why most cyclists are lean, except for track cyclists... just look at their legs. This is why running is popular among women. But all you have to do to understand why running is terribly inefficient is google it. www.google.com/search?q=running+is+inefficient&oq=running+is+in&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j0l5.3984j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

thePhotopiper Ofc running doesn't give you gains you smartass, its not the reason you start running. Running greatly improves your overall cardiovascular health, your circolatory, the volume of your lung and your endurance.
