Had gamebred bulldogs over 45 years... Snooty, Eli, Red boy, Lonzo dogs, dogs out of Cates bloodline, we're my best / best temperaments etc. never had a hyper dog, had a few hyper aggressive males towards other bigger dogs but could get ANY of my dogs to be friends with work. I would work two "enemies out together - walking , swimming face to face and treadmill, walks require another handler, one dog walks in front other more aggressive dog walks behind. In time they will look forward to seeing each other and get along well. My dogs have always been in top shape, healthy and stress free, well behaved. Also would tie 3 dogs up only to play tug of war so they couldn't possibly bite each other ( 2 of the most aggressive males I ever had) in my opinion females, my favorites are the toughest toughest of all.. work your dog out properly and it will calm right down.... Takes alot of time, lot of dedication

My first dog was an unregistered bully or pit. I did research after I got him and by two months he was fully trained. Coulda been a great guard dog but I trained him against it because I decided I wasn’t prepared to train a guard dog yet. I fully trained another dog in 2 weeks. My advice get them young train early do research. You gotta know what motivates them and you have to make the dog fall in love with you after that training is pretty simple. The first thing I teach my dogs is yes and no. Then I teach them to enjoy obedience. After that all the commands are pretty easy to teach. It takes work and you have to keep at it. I slacked off around 1 year old and stopped walking him and taking him out in public and he started reacting. Overall I would say bullies are probably better than pits but should definitely check the lines and buy registered. Some lines have issues mental and physical and some breeds have working lines and companion lines. Good dogs if you have the time or motivation to put the work in.

@l.mack199128 күн бұрын
@@JamesRyan-o6y you are contradicting yourself in your first sentence and your next to last sentence, which is correct. The APBT, is a separate and distinct breed than American bulldogs, American bullies and Staffordshire terriers, bull terriers, American staffs, English bulldogs etc. etc. even though (if you go back enough) they are related. And because of that genetic relationship, all of the above are often referred to as bull dogs as a blanket term. Historically speaking, game dogs are APBT, like the razor line of dogs you mentioned, that exist inside of a specific breed of dogs. My grand parents had “bull dogs”, which were APBT to be more specific. And I’ve earned a few ribbons of my own. Page 2 Understanding Line breeding, cross breeding, inbreeding etc, leads you into the science behind successful breeding (which I started studying / better understanding in the early 70’s). And will better help you understand how the razor line was established.

There was only two dogs that he had chained, barricaded, and put way in the back of the yard. Those two 45lb dogs would be worse than the coyote’s if or when they got out. Nothing out no one was safe. Not even myself at 5-6 years old. I know too many people who want the responsibility, or feel like they can take genetic make up, and I always tell them to stick to a Lab or Golden Retriever.

That's no terrier despite the name. They are Bulldogs. I've been around them for for over forty years - game dogs and catch dogs. They are different. They are not prone to bite people but it can happen. Mine have been very quiet inside, playful outside and predatory when out on the leash - meaning they were stimulated by the other dogs in the immediate area. I'd take him to the ball park, go inside on of the baseball fields and let him run around. Others would literally crawl over you and needed constant affection but were super intense around other animals. Neither types could be trusted in, say, an event where people had dogs on leashes or running free. If there were no pets they thrived on the attention - especially the children (Pit Bulldogs have never been uncommon in South Louisiana as Floyd Boudreaux is maybe 60 miles from Baton Rouge - though those who had his dogs, Lightner dogs, etc., were "in the fraternity" and not common). So, do I have a dog now? No. Why? I work long hours and... Life. However, I'm offered dogs all the time. Mostly game dog pups from persons who realize that a "normal person in society" is well aware of the history, the bloodlines and pedigrees of famous working strains of the dog. I tell them if I won the lotto I'd buy a Redboy-Jocko-Bolio-Tombstone dog or a Bolio-Tombstone (Hollingsworth/Wildside's Kennel or Cottingham) pup or Bolio-Tombstone-Eli pup from working bloodlines. Why? Because that's what I grew up around, I adored the affection and attention they gave as pups. I slept with them and I played with them on the floors of the house or on the ground at their level achieving a very tight bond. My late great uncle used to say, "Nephew, with three good Bulldogs you could crash the gates of Hell" meaning they'd kill Cerebus and it's just you, your Bulldogs and whatever lies behind said gates... They really need LOTS of time and work - kinda like a Malinois but that's not to say their basic drives are the same. *Bottom Line - EVERY THING AINT FOR EVERYBODY* There's no better breed (FOR ME) but they should not be in the hands of wannabe tough guys or fur moms or lazy folks who refuse to spend any time with the animal. I do not encourage persons to purchase Bullies and I *NEVER* encourage John Q Public to purchase a real Pit Bull as they are working dogs, intense dogs, loyal dogs that need a loving, well-disciplined, near zero stress environment as pups and you have to secure them. The English Bulldog came from Spain. They were called (in English) the Butcher's Alaunt. They were considered bandogges (the word "Docga" means Mastiff or Catch Dog as does "Dogue" (French) , "Dogge" (German), "Presa" (to seize or catch; bite), "Fila" (to seize, catch). A bandogge implied it was a mastiff (they came large and small and the Bulldog was the smallest of the Mastiffs) a mastiff that was tethered because it would get into trouble if not. A true Pit Bull is kinda like that. Unless you live on a rural farm.

Instructions are not clear which is why your dog doesn't listen. You gotta remember there's so many distractions outside, at home there isn't. You gotta put in the work and be consistent with it to get the bond. Firm corrections are needed. Tiring him out is how you calm him down. Play with him for about half hour before you go out and when you are out make sure it's for a decent amount of time. The fact of the matter is, if you haven't perfected recall then he needs to stay on lead at all times to avoid getting into trouble.

it's really dog dependent but he was not wrong. terrier and bull type dogs are independent breeds meaning they aren't really handler focused. unlike shepherds which are HIGHLY biddable dogs (high handler focus). its not uncommon for either dog to go back on you to get to what they want but it's often easier to direct one over the other since they are more likely to listen.

He's absolutely right. If you don't know how to handle a pit bull stay away from them. If you can't invest a lot of time into a pit don't get them. They are NOT house dogs. They are naturally aggressive because they're bread for it.

I have a A half corgi and a half Australian Shepherd and he is a lover but he will jump on anything to Protect me and the farm I’m afraid one day he will jump on something that’s going to hurt him. I rescued him off of death row and I’m pretty sure he knows.

Folks don't understand because the drive of some dogs is something the average owner isnt prepared for. Some dogs you just can't put in timeout to listen.

He did not respect you. Bully bred, block head dogs, Mastiff type are dogs of war. They must listen to their master. Strong dogs, work with strong owners. Husky, chow chow, Tibetan Mastiff, and others are about that life. There are dog trainers from Petco to the hood. Dog trainer pet parent. Get in where you fit in.

I really wish people would stop calling their dogs "game dogs." If you have never put your dog in the box to roll when it was a young pup to see if it possesses the intestinal fortitude to continue, though it was getting its butt whipped, and it doesn't come from a reputable dogman from a reputable bloodline, you cannot call your dog a game dog. You have a pet dog. Also, American Bullies were never bred to be fighting dogs. They are companion dogs. Do not confuse them with American Pit Bull Terriers. And stop calling them pit bulls because they're not pit bulls. They've never participated in bear baiting, bullbaiting, or ratting to deserve that title. They are not in the same league as a real tried and test game APBT.

You can't say that. I had a pitbull who would do exactly what I said when I said it... no matter what was going on around him. A not suggesting a pet is crazy if you're willing to put in work they're the best dogs on the planet.

“Genetics” is not an excuse for lack of knowledge, understanding and skill as a dog trainer. If you know how to work with genetics it helps you do amazing things, it’s not the reason you fail. Don’t use it as a crutch for your failure.

I need a pit to take care of my raccoon issues here in Texas. I have a Yorkie that Joker will get demolished/destroyed by the raccoons. The job i need the pit for would correct my problem with the outside rodents and provide protection for the home.

Ok, i agree with some stuff you said, but i have to address something. 1. Your dog has more bulldog than anything not terrier. First, staff bred to bulldog to make the bully, then added alpha blue bulldog to create that Merle coat he has. 2. There's no such thing as "pitbull type" animal planet is wrong there is only 1 pitbull and we all know the reasons why . Otherwise love your message
@JamesRyan-o6y6 ай бұрын
This is totally wrong. Pitbull is a type of dog and animal planet didn't make it up. They have their own kennel club. A bulldog is a pitbull. Through breeding tech (like line breeding, an old practice that produced most breeds today) i can change an animals shape drastically with only stock breed dogs.And All pitbulls are a mix of terrier and bulldog going back over 100 years so that point is moot. Your statements factually false. Also purebred is 85 percent of a parental breed in DNA . Not 100 percent. Sense your statement shows you pretty just know dogs as 'pets' and not tools produced through animal husbandry.
@DogmanMo6 ай бұрын
@user-yo7ko3vn9t no there is only 1 and it's called the "American pitbull terrier" it's not called a "bulldog pitbull". Only 1 breed has it in the name. also pitbulls have their own registry / kennel club it's called the adba and a couple other
@stevenjones76338 ай бұрын
It all depends on how you train your dogs! If you train him to be aggressive, you are going to have a dog that's not going to be controllable in some circumstances! It's all about the trainer and what the dog is trained for!
