Stretching is one of the worst things someone with any L4-S1 disc injury should do for the symptoms. The odds are that the tightness and pain you are experiencing are NOT directly related to the disc bulge or herniation itself but are caused by a central nervous system response.
This requires a different approach, but for today, I want to show you the common stretches that you need to STOP doing, and what you will find after stopping is your symptoms begin to fade away.

Exactly! Too many people are doing just stretching, and not enough stabilizing/strengthening. Lots of physios, massage therapists, chiropractors just keep giving people stretches to do. They’re obviously not thinking about the anatomy and physiology of the issue.

Omg I was told to do exactly the stretches' you showed for spinal stenosis. No wonder I am not getting better. I had to do few epidural shots. Thank you for the information.

Let me tell you I saw all the “professionals” in the industry from pain management, PT, Chiropractor, etc. for my L4-L5, L5-S1 herniations. None of them had the answers and they’re all looking to keep you on the hamster wheel. It’s when I decided to get off and do my own thing, with the likes of Stuart MCGill and this dude right here, is when I saw real results. I’ve watched a lot of “content providers” on KZbin and this dude, “qualified” by the machine or not, has not steered me wrong. Stretching is bullcrap, try out what he says, and if it doesn’t work for you, move on. Stop listening to the “professionals”

@@captace Stuart McGill is a professional. Not saying this guy doesn’t have anything to offer. Just be very wary of advice coming from content providers pushing a product.

@@andreadalex8893”Back Mechanic” book by Stuart McGill is a good starter kit if you’re just starting your journey. You can purchase the book with supplemental videos to walk you through the exercises displayed in the book. I don’t really use McGill anymore because I’m much further in my journey but I always try to remember his best practices. I primarily use William @ Fitness 4 Back Pain for my strengthening routine at the gym now. He follows most of the same practices as McGill but uses a much wider range of back-safe exercises. Definitely recommend McGill though if you are just starting and have a highly sensitive back.
