So complicated but It's always great to see this in your videos. The more that I watch them, the more it all begins to make sense (I'm very slow learner). The Cassandra stays look like an interesting pattern and your purple stays are awesome!! 🧡💙

When doing mock ups always trust your instinct: a lot of the time it's right and you'll grow an intuitive understanding of how that piece is supposed to feel and look like to you; Sometimes it'll fuck up big time and it will highlight a detail of that piece you didn't understand and you'll get it right from that point on (hopefully)

Great timing! I am currently creating a 1760s outfit and watched while hand sewing the petticoat. Stays are my next final frontier - I've made 19th century stays and corsets, but I feel intimidated by the prospect of fully boned stays. Your trial and error demonstration of the fitting and mockup process really helps! Love your channel ❤
@FantasticalFolliesCostuming
@FantasticalFolliesCostuming Ай бұрын
Love it! Glad you enjoyed the video! Don't be intimidated by fully boned stays--yes, it does take time to do all that boning, but you also don't have to remove, say, the boning on seams whenever you need to make an adjustment like you do with corsets! They're actually easier.

Rip off the bandaid and do it! It's a skill you can only really master with physical practice. No video can teach you about your own body's quirks quite like making a crappy pair of stays can! 🧡🧡🧡

I hope you feel better soon! I'm about to make the Redthreaded 1780s font lacing stays and this video is super helpful! I'm another Dolly Parton if she were a hobbit and have to take 4 inches out of the pattern because I'm only 4'11" tall. The boning channels all need to be redrawn, it's a lot! I've only made a corset and boned bodice for my little girl because fitting on my own body is so daunting! But your videos are really helping me feel like I can do it! But I think I'll make my Regency short stays first, haha. 😅
@FantasticalFolliesCostuming
@FantasticalFolliesCostuming Ай бұрын
Thank you!! Every day is a little bit better 🤞 I'm glad this was helpful! Redthreaded's stays I find are like, eeeeeeeextra long, so that checks lol. A handy tip for when you're ready for those channels--just draw a couple for reference (and any ones that change direction subsequentially) and use your gauge on the machine for the rest. Short stays are definitely a good step forward (but I promise, after making a corset, the stays are actually a lot easier!!)

As an almost-fellow Hobbit Dolly Parton (same upper body, insanely long legs), I feel this video and appreciate your work. Planning on making my own set (prob not this pattern) and I have IDEAS which will make the thing accessible and incorporate elements/ideas around maternity stays for flexibility of size and boob age. Thank you for this. So helpful, you wonderful, amazing, creative [insert noun of choice here], you x PS did my eyes deceive me or is that, in fact, home made reusable lacing tape in those mock-ups?! PPS 😊😊😊 PPPS if you have problems with the straps showing with this style, cross them over under the stay guards.

7:19 Yeah, I see myself in that photo and I don't like it. My workaround for "brain says we ain't doing that again" is it goes into the UFO pile for later consideration and I go do something else, then before scissors may touch fabric on the next Shiny New Project, I have to do a mending, re-examine a UFO and darn 1D6 socks back into service and if I can face it again at that point, that's what we do. And yes, my stays mockup has been there for a year now. And I'm ok with that, it's next on the re-examine, and if it goes well it might become the next Shiny New Project.

@@FantasticalFolliesCostuming It does mean that my idea to make stays has been in the UFO bin over a year.... but yeah, it's what works for me. I don't have to be productive, I just stab fabric so I don't stab people!
