Data point for others doing 285/70/17s. I've got an OME suspension (2.5" front, 1.5" rear lift, measured from street to wheel well center), C load KO2s: OMETAC16HKSB2. With 17x8 zero-offset rims, it's a perfect fit. No need to replace UCAs or to trim or hammer anything. I can smack it around at full steering lock without any rub. Almost all of the clearance issues I've seen on others' set-ups are from going overboard with a big negative offset. 2021 TRD OR.

I've found this to be the case too-- for fitting larger tires, wheel offset matters more than people may think! The lift matters, but 0 offset helps quite a bit. Thanks for sharing your setup!

Your content is very good but you are absolutely wrong about the gearing. If you upgrade to 285 tires and don’t regear to a 4.88 system your mpg will get crucified on the highway. The tacoma will never see overdrive with those size tires. The factory gearing is just barely adequate for the stock 265 tires if you drive an automatic.
@mattinthehat222 жыл бұрын
1st: disregard my question from the later video which I watched first. 2nd: Did you get an alignment after putting the 285's on? Also, I had my heart set on American Racing 17x8's with zero offset for my '19 TRD O/R knowing I would need new shocks, but I'm guessing those 'Pro' Fox shocks (with the preload collar) will swap in easily... I hope. Not needing UCA's will help with my budget - same reason I won't get those Methods. Great video, as usual!!

@Jerlemi22 жыл бұрын
It does feel sluggish. I have a 2019 with 285s. The factory gearing of 3.91 just can’t handle those tires. It can barely handle the stock 265s. Toyota really dropped the ball on this part of the third gen Tacomas.

So have you had any problems on the outer wall of the tire ? I have some toyo open country AT3. 265/70/17 on the trd pro wheels after about 6 months I took the spare down to clean it. And had some major rubbing on the outside wall of the tire from the top of the undercarriage compartment. It was so bad I had to get a new spare. Any recommendations to solve that problem? I’ve tried tighten the spare down as tight as I could but that didn’t seem to do the trick.
@bradgt51302 жыл бұрын
This seems Alittle caping. I have a 18 with, 285 and before my regear or tune it drove like shit. Those tires alone worked the 6 speed like crazy and this was living in Louisiana before my move to Georgia so I was on flat ground. Never would see 6th at all on the interstate while it took my MPG average down to 13, and I set my cruise on 68. After my 5.29 regear and custom tune it brought it back to the 16mpg range on the interstate. In my city I’ll never see above 13-14 and I’m very conservative when it comes to driving my truck. Not to mention rubbing for the guys running no seats, I did a CMC before I did the tires. Bumps rubs the front bumper and I’m just a cunt hair away from my pinch weld. Which I’m about to hammer it down soon because I’m doing a fender trim, but just a warning to all. 265/75which I had before are great nothing required no mod, just be prepared that 285 or 305 you are doing some work, then comes time for your spare. Unless you are running a carrier you have to go under your truck and move your tire winch back a bit to fit a 285 in the spare.
