try using an electric hand drill for the tube cleaning , i attached sand paper to a wooden dowel and simply tightened it up in the drill chuck , worked a treat , put plenty of tape on the sandpaper though to keep it attached

You put the same type post back in? I bet it bent again. Unless you had a faulty lay back post. A post not inserted enough will damage the frame, a bent post is not caused by minimal insertion.

If we had that bike as a kid we’d be laughed at for not mounting the seat properly. The seat bracket gets flipped and hides under the seat, out of sight

Wire brush would have worked

Thanks for the tip, I don't think I have a wire brush thatd go down that tube but I shall try and get one :)
