I have watched with interest your O/D installation and really appreciate your advice and tips. I have found an easier way to install the gearbox onto the O/D unit. I made up a wooden base about 300mm X 300mm and screwed the O/D flange that connects to the tailshaft to it. I used this mounting to do all the assembly of the O/D once I had assembled the anulus to the case. To install the gear box, I just put the base and O/D on the floor and easily dropped the gearbox into the O/D. No step ladder of back strain. Can send a photo but don't really know where to.

Bonjour, merci d’envoyer la photo. Utilisez vous l’arbre factice pour l’alignement ? Hello, yes please, be so kind to send thé photo. Do you use the dummy shaft to make the alignement ?

Hi i have one of these to do for a customer. It has a leak which has become quite bad now. It looks like it is coming from the rod which passes through the over drive. Is it possible to remove the overdrive unit whilst leaving the engine and transmission in place. TIA.

I think it would be a pain to do. Easier to remove the box and leave the engine in situ. If you want a temp fix then you could try cutting an o ring in half and glueing it back together around the shaft to slow or maybe stop the leak. Good luck.

Here's another one for you. My bn6 is about 4 years in to a complete restoration, drives wonderfully, but the gearbox is starting to leak minor amounts (3-5 drops over the winter months) of oil from a few places. Any recommendations?

James Fragomeni from what I have heard from many experts I would say your in a great place! I’ve heard they leak regardless and it’s partially due to the mount at the rear causing flex and stress on the many joints on the box and overdrive caused over time and use 👍🏻.

No way I could lift a gearbox like that, so I put the gearbox on the floor and drop the overdrive onto the gearbox.
