Great work. All looking good. I'm very curious as to which parts you used for the clutch conversion to hydraulic. Which slave and master cylinders were used, and if it was an easy job and what problems you had, if any. I'm thinking of converting mine from cable. Keep up the good work.

The master and slave were off the shelf moss items. A custom bracket was made from the bell housing with adjustability to change biting point. Will see what it’s like to drive when the car is on the road hopefully shortly… I’ve got a few pics if you want to drop me an email.

I have a 1984 GTE, which I've had from new. At the last MOT I was told to have the headlight reflectors rechromed at the earliest opportunity. I tried one spray can of another brand, which wasn't very good so I removed it with thinners. Strangely some of the original good reflective surface also came off. This got me thinking that they were painted, rather than chrome plated originally.
@Resto.Nation4 ай бұрын
I think they were silvered from factory not chromed. The go chrome by stardust colours that I used was perfect! And the heat resistant paint for the bulb reflectors held up well too. Well recommended, but not cheap paint.

@Resto.Nation5 ай бұрын
Not a bad shout. That way you can get some oil pressure before you fire it up. The fuel tank and pump have a good chance of being a problem too if it’s been stood that long so worth looking into that too. You don’t want to turn the key and drag rubbish into fuel filters, injectors and rail etc. Any problems just shout on here and check the other videos on the other problems that I had with mine…
All looks very smart and well thought out upgrades. One of the biggest problems with real world use of these cars is ventilation. There’s no exit for cabin fumes, and the Kamm tail seems to hold fumes behind the car which get sucked into the cabin through the tiniest gaps around the tail lights. Unless you use a plastic rear screen with vent holes cut, it’s a problem. All this comes from experience using one as a road and sprint car. It would be great if you could find a solution retaining a glass screen. Venting under the car into the diff area ? Maybe I’m fussy, but on a long run it can leave you with a sick headache.
@Resto.Nation5 ай бұрын
Appreciate the feedback! What about a roof vent like on the Austin Healey race cars? Or an in cabin fan linked to a 12v supply to circulate and push out unwanted fumes?
@user-ri9ym1dw1k5 ай бұрын
The roof vent could look good but you won’t want to mess about with your freshly painted body. I have toyed with the idea of the in cabin extractor fan exiting under the floor. Not yet decided where to cut the hole. May not need a fan if exiting into a low pressure area. Lots of issues to ponder.

Very cool little car! Firstly sack the old push rod motor off (even though it holds oil better than mine!) A few suggestions: 1.6 mx5 with a turbo - its shorter in height than a 1.8 but not much bigger in length/width to the 1600 thats in it but 30 more brake as it is and theyre peanuts to buy. 4age as you have one and very cool - apparenlty based on the cosworth BDA which used the 1600 block thats in it. Throw an rx8 box on it and off you go. Rotary - you can use a megasquirt to run them. Sack the gauges etc off and run modern smiths so nobody would notice till you fire it up S2000 would be cool but thats a tall engine too. Jaguar 3l v6, cheap and understressed as theyre never revved. Rocketeer do kits to use that engine in mx5s V8 cos v8!

Hands down, the world’s most in depth KZbin reply… from a fellow KZbinr! I think I would’ve torn between wankel and 4age… but v8 is a hard thing to turn down! But it has already been done in this car… 50 years ago, so far from original 😂. P.s the thought of using smiths gauges appeals a lot #sleeper
