Max, I watched a few of your videos and decided there was so much I could learn that I quit watching the latest and started from the beginning. There was something in every video that a non-professional like me can learn. I've been running a mill and a lathe since 2007, but never better than now thanks to all the little--and some big--hints and techniques you include in everyone your videos. I've also learned enough of the Aussie language that I do not need the captions anymore! So, creak on! Thank you!

Right on mate! Didn't really think I would see those sanding rolls in one of your vids. Very cool of you to do that, as there being any number of ways to take care of that issue. Especially since you had to do some masking to use them. They did seem to work well and leave a nice finish though. I imagine that was just mild steele though and not hardened. But there was some in the box for harder materials like stainless and such. That was neat to see you use them. Im glad they can be useful. The bloke I seen using them said to be careful of using the areas where the glue was though cause they could delaminate if those areas were used too much. Thanks mate, I enjoyed the video a little more than usual. It would be cool if the chat folks could pool together and get you a DRO, or the funds for you to choose one, as they are time savers and do come in handy for drilling hole patterns. Anyways, cheers mate! I was thinking, it doesn't sound like you need to use fertilizer on your grass out there. To hear some of the eastern Aussies, I've heard them say the westies are dry husks and go through gallons of moisturizer. But it seems you get a decent amount of rain there, despite the dry air. I know here in Phoenix that most of the year it never gets above 25% humidity.Talk about gallons of moisturizer! 👍🏻

I watched a bit on a video earlier today & yes , he mentioned about the glue spot . The sanding rolls worked great , perfect tool for the job . The material was cast iron . Lol , the DRO's will be a long term thing as i need to set up about 10 of them ! We have a dry , low humidity climate here as well . We will probably have very little rain now until well into next year . Winter seemed to finish early & we are already in the high 20's C , i have a feeling we will get another stinking hot summer . Cheers 👍

I dream of 25% humidity, or less than 50% would be nice. Rather than the 70%+ that we normally get. Trying to keep machines free of rust is a never ending job.

@@billdoodson4232 I know what you mean. I have had a lifetime career as an asphalt construction worker\heavy equipment operator. Started at the CA southern coast (Ventura) full time at the age of 16. Then moved to southwest VA (Marion, Smythe County) mountain area, which was right at rain forest levels @ about 40" of rain a year, then to NC (Salisbury ,Rowan County) which was even more humid (lower elevation) but less rain, then to Phoenix AZ where about 4 months of the year it is in triple digits, and where 110 is an average summer temp, and we can count on 118-120 for a portion of the summer. Asphalt being around 275-300° F I've experienced both humid and dry. 85°f and 80% humidity is just as bad as 110°f and 25% humidity. At times the humidity in Phoenix gets lower than 20%, I've seen 10% here before. Hard to say which is worse. I'm disabled now though, so no more of that stuff. But I imagine as a machinist being in 80% humidity a lot like Abom in Florida, it would be an uphill battle against rust. A\C and humidifiers is pretty much required I would imagine, or WD 40 by the case or both, Yeah it sucks, but beats the hell out of a desk job that is fo sure. Could you imagine having to deal with HR (human resources Dept.)? It's all worth it to avoid crap like that!

I absolutely love my multi fix. I also was informed via the manufacturer that to tighten it you are to push it away ( which on a normal right hand thread would be to loosen it ) But I’ve had great success with it. Everyone has a butthole though I guess. 🤷‍♂️ haha. 🍻

Always the same problem, not enough time and too much to do. If the C size Multifix is a little big, then a B should fit better, but I agree on the 3 tool clamping screws being less than ideal, often tools are too short to use the third and you cant easily run two tools in each side of the holder if you want. What I do like about Multifix is the round bar holders, the insert parting blade holders and the retractable threading holders, what I don't like is the cost.

Max, you have some nice viewers here in America that's all I can say. I have a friend in Q'land I help out from time to time as things can be hard to find and or very expensive for the shop in Ozzyland. As far as too posts go I find the Aloris style fits my needs quite nicely. I do have some custom made blocks to hold boring bars that bolt right to the compound though. It is interesting to see all the ideas people have to fix tools to their lathes though. No wrong way (except perhaps the old lantern post! so 1890's 🤣) Nevertheless looks like the JFMT is going to be a very nice lathe when you get done with her. Cheers

It’s actually nice to have just enough comments that you can read through ‘em, more like some blokes hanging out in the shop! What’s the swing on that lathe, and I guess more importantly hight above the cross slide that makes the multi-fix too big? One thing i will say, with the multi you don’t need to go double up in the tool holders as often as say with the Aloris that only has two dovetails. Those are pretty much standard here in the USA. I also have a size C multi that I haven’t fit to my Graziano yet, so, havnt actually worked with it have to confess.. Cheers from Brooklyn!

Thanks . The Main issue i have is the size of the holders being too cumbersome for quick changes & that they only have 3 tool clamp screws . This restricts the tooling i can run like short HSS bits . As far as centre height , there is no issue as the lathe is a 21 inch , 530mm swing machine . Cheers 👍

Max, why the double action for the countersinks on the arbor? Why not countersink with the end mill direct? Stability of the machine or? Just wondering. Next I think you're better of with the Multifix toolpost. If you keep them clean they repeat within 0,02 mm. I used them on all my lathes for 28 years now and I'm a happy dude. If it doesn't repeat I forgot to clean it. The German copied holders are quite alright too and affordable. Or why bother. Don't f**k with it, if it isn't broke. Is this an Australian phrase? (Looking at the end of your video I think you're going back to the Multifix anyhow.) Best, Job PS: If you want to see the spiral grinders in maximum use look at Paul Brody's channel. He's the fillet brasing king and uses them all the time. Next to this he's an inspiration to watch. Unfortunately he's seriously ill again. But a lot of skilled content to watch. Especially if you like bikes or motorbikes. He made several motorbikes from top to bottom without drawings. Only a low res picture from the past to look at. Respect

Thanks . The Multifix is too big & restrictive for the tooling i want to run . I was starting to get used to it , if it was smaller with 4 clamping screws for tooling i would keep it on the machine . You could just plunge down with an end mill , sometimes i do and sometimes i drill first . No particular reason why ! 👍

Nice toolpost Max. The ground ring of teeth is a curvic coupling, used on rotating aerospace engine components to ensure incredibly accurate radial and axial location of many parts in a rotating assembly, without the need for multiple sets of threaded fasteners between each part. Repeatability in the low single digit microns if ground correctly. Cheers, Jon

Hi Max, The company I work for has a KRV 3000 ( Bridgeport knockoff), and if I want to reposition the ram I need 3 different spanners, as all the bolts have different head sizes, drives me nuts. Maybe I should do something about that, lol. It also has a guard with an interlock that means I cant access the quill feed when its in position, just to keep me safe which is really handy.
