After 70,000kms our old tyres were pretty much done - it was time to chuck something new on. Enter the MAXXIS Razr AT811s - an aggressive all-terrain that is fairly new on the market. I also splashed out a little and got some new wheels! Pretty stoked with how it turns out.
Massive should out to Cooper Tyres Petone for sussing everything out!

Well done. I’m running a set of AT811s as well. Quiet, comfortable and grippy on road. Had them in muddy soft ground and they seem capable.

You will be impressed. Replaced my m/t’s as they weren’t available at the time with these 811 tyres in June. We live in the Central Otago high country so have given them a good work out in most conditions, they have exceeded my expectations on what I thought all terrains were capable of. Hope you have a good run from them too.

That’s awesome to hear! Always nice when a purchase is better than you expect eh. I’ve put around 1500kms on them on all sorts of terrain and so far, super happy. So much nicer on the road than my old tyres - and seem more than capable for what I need offroad. Be interesting to see how they go as they age!

I ended up exactly the same! Went round and around - almost bought another set of what I had before but everyone was raving on about these, so thought I'd give them a go! Published a 15,000km review view last week - covers my thoughts on them now - but in short, I'm super happy with them!

I’ve been banging my head as to whether to get 285s over the 265s. The body mount chop alone had me scratching my head if it was worth it just for the look. These 265s look mean on the Luxy.
@OverlandNZTV

I had the same dilemma when I got new tyres. Decided not to bother - 265s look all good and were easy to fit. And being a manual, didn’t wanna regear it anymore with taller tyres

@@OverlandNZTV yea nice, I’m getting my Hilux next month and I just didn’t think it was worth it (I also had no idea about the modifications needed either) With a lift and an aggressive AT it looks great IMO (265s) I am getting the Maxxis as well 👌👌👌

@@baron30001 Sorry for the slow reply - we were down south for a few weeks, wanted to wait till I was back to respond! Have put ~7,000kms on them now - so happy with how they perform. They're real nice on the road, did a whole day in the rain and they handled super well. Did a few rivers with rocks and stuff, again, zero issues. They were as good as any AT in the mud. Overall, real happy - so nice not having noisy tyres for those long drives on the highway!

Hi, I'm looking at getting some of these fitted to my 100 series landcruiser. No doubt they will be mainly used on sealed roads. How have you found them to date? What's the wear been like?
@OverlandNZTV
@OverlandNZTV 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, we've put ~11,000kms on them now and so far, stoked with them. They're really nice on the road - quiet, grip well and ride smoothly. Seem to track real well too which is nice after my last tyres. I got them rotated at 10,000kms and the tyre shop guy was amazed how at little they've worn which is a good sign. Yet to find any real issues with them - obviously they get a bit slippery in the mud, the sidewalls are strong so the ride can be a touch stiff if you pump them up too much (though Cruiser being heavier would help). This far in they're my favourite AT I've ever run. Hoping I get 60-70,000kms out of them, but time will tell

@OverlandNZTV
@OverlandNZTV 3 жыл бұрын
Obviously can't speak for how long they last - but over the last 2 months and ~5000kms of various terrain, I'm super happy with them! They're really nice on the road - the sidewalls are fairly stiff, so they don't wander (Duratracs did real badly). Do need to air down more than I expected, but that's all good. Have had them on sand, rocks, gravel - no worries. Haven't tried mud yet being the middle of summer, but I assume they'll perform like most ATs. Highly recommended at this stage!

It was a super hard call - I very nearly got another set. Decided I wanted something a little quieter this time, the Duratracs got super loud as they wore down. Apart from that though, they were awesome!

How many KMs on yours now? Ours started getting super loud around the 50,000km mark. Put 1500kms on the new tyres over the weekend, so far pretty pleased - so much quieter and smoother. Will be interesting to see how they go long term

How noisy are they on road, really? I want to pull off the standard Ranger HTs and chuck these on. Wife won't be happy if they're noisy af though 😂
@OverlandNZTV
@OverlandNZTV 3 жыл бұрын
The Hilux has a lot of other noise going on, so it can be tricky to judge, but to me, they seem quieter than the road tyres on our Kia Sportage. With the old tyres, you’d hear them above the engine and roof rack. The 811s are now the quietest of the three. In all honesty though, they’ll be a touch louder than an HT - but they’re the quietest AT I’ve ever run. There’s a stretch of highway just north of Wellington that my old Duratracs used to howl down. The Dueler AT 697s I had were even worse. I personally hate tyre noise (hence avoiding mud tyres) - so was a hard decision but stoked so far - have 14,000ish kms on them now, don’t seem to have gotten any louder

The RAZRs are way better in the wet - the Duratracs were alright, but they’re a more aggressive tread pattern. From memory the RAZR was slightly better on fuel, but so many factors

Hey mate - not sure what the best offset for a 285 is. A 0 to +15 is a good spot for a 265 which we were running Started off with 265/75R16 on a 16x8 0 offset steel rim - then moved to the 265/70R17 on a 17x9 +15 - same overall size, sat almost identically to the 16" rim

Haven't had any issues in the wet. They're a tad louder now than when new, but that's not unexpected. From what I've heard, the Falkens are awesome - haven't tried them myself though.
