Season 1, Episode 4: fitting together or fitting in?

I love how life experiences teach me and show me the way.
We have been blessed this week to have visited 2 outstanding churches in Sydney. Lighthouse Church in Crowsnest and St Matthews Church in Manly.
And yesterday to have had the most incredible trip out to Great Barrier Reef and Lady Musgrave Island. All 3 experiences demonstrated fitting together beautifully.
In the 2 churches, there were those who led and introduced, those who worked together in the worship teams, producing beautiful harmonies, those who had wisdom and words to share and yet every person there played a part, fitting together in their roles to achieve so much more.
The lady Musgrave Experience was seemless, each person on board taking responsibility for their part, working together to produce a truly memorable time for all. From the diver from Chille, who also served our food to the marine biologist who shared her wisdom on the island tour and topped up all the salad dishes, to the skipper and life guard, to the young men and women who patiently helped us with snorkels, wet suits, coffee's and more.
This is what I saw in all of these experiences:
1. Each one knowing their lane, working together with others in their lanes
Everyone knowing their part and staying in their lane of genius, helping out where needed. (fitting together). Rather than not knowing their lane or place and trying to be all things to everyone, rushing around trying to prove their value and worth (fitting in)
2. Each one bringing their gifting and adding value to the whole
How everyone complimented each other, adding their value and gifting (fitting together), working as a team, to create even more than they could have done if they were all the same (fitting in). It is funny when we bring our gifting and work together in unity and one accord we produce far more than the sum of the parts and it is so much more rewarding.
3. Each one honouring the other's lane and contribution
Appreciating everyone's gifting and honouring them for that, rather than being cross, angry and frustrated that people don't do things your way (note to self here, as this is where I can get caught up). When we bring our best and work with others bringing their best, the best happens.
4. They had an internal frame of reference
Fitting together comes from an internal frame of reference, knowing your why and place in this world. Fitting in is an external frame of reference, when we look outwardly to find our sense of belonging, value or self-worth.
5. Everyone was full of joy, happy to be there
Fitting together is all about looking for the good in all situations, people and circumstances, working with others to seek out solutions and possibilities, far beyond our own scope or sphere of influence. Fitting in is looking for everyone to agree and be like me, putting people or situations into boxes, putting a cap on growth and conforming to find a sense of belonging.
It has been such an honour to be in different spaces this week and to see people fitting together as a T.E.A.M. (together everyone achieves more). The amazing spreads of food, the wisdom and insights shared and the experiences that will be with me for years to come.
