I have a 55’ 2nd Series. I’m loving these videos, especially as I’m not a mechanic, welder, painter or fabricator. And my workshop will never be as good as yours. But I love tinkering and fixing. Guys like you show me the way and what you can achieve with the right gear. I’ve done things I never thought I could. 👍👍👍👍👍

I think this is the first "normal" video you've made as you've been recovering. I absolutely loved it. I take one look at that opening for the windshield and it simply looks impossible to repair... but you frequently confound the impossible. Thanks for sharing this with us. I think you are making the right call with that rust converter stuff... so good luck in your search this weekend. Can't wait for the next upload....

I'm not comparing. But watching you work reminds me of my Pop. (You're a lot younger than he was when working), but when he was working and really concentrating, he had this habit of squinting and sticking his tongue out one corner of his mouth. You don't but was thinking if him, he'd have a mouth full of sparks and rust. Enjoy watching you work and hearing your commentary. (Pops parents, my grandparents moved from Canda around 1898 to California to work on the railroad, My Pop started working for the railroad right out of high school in 1926 as a Machinist).

You got my thumbs up as soon as you started drilling out the spot welds in the old roof line. Tedious, slow work, and a total mess if you're not very careful. Even if you are very careful, it's a LOT of work required.

Well Brent, at the end I thought Pablo was driving the truck, he had you blocked out, ha, ha. You make the hardest jobs look so easy, I guess it is your engineering mind set, and you love a challenge, because I have seen you do so many I cannot count, and they all come out looking beautiful. I was thinking about your shop and maybe you already have all your plans done, but I would have a lockable room for your costly tools or other items. I am saying you cannot trust anyone, just in case of a break-in or who knows. Doesn't hurt to plan for everything in these times, and the room can be small to medium to large and be an office with a closet. Take care my friend.

Spot welds are the worst. Hard to find and harder to drill out. It will kill your drill bits. The spot weld bits need to be of very good quality and that means expensive. Glad to see you back at it again Brent. 👍

Hello from Memphis. I had a 55 Chevy truck in the 80s. I wish we had the tools and repop parts that are available today. Back then they were just old trucks. I drove it till the wheels fell off literally.we put it on a lift and the passenger side front wheel hit the floor. Broken/ rusted parts ever where. Best $500 truck ever

Seperating spot welded panals can be a real bear. I found that slipping the blade of a very stiff putty knife blade between the panels and then whacking the blade with a hammer as the blade is pressed againt the drilled joint works a bit better than twisting and prying the panel pieces Usually its enough force to pop the remainder of the weld It's a dirty job but somebody got to do it TY 4sharing BTW : That chisel/peen streching trick as a new one to me ..it makes sense and works great Thanks

I have never ben into body work, scared 😱 i think, but i always thought welding panels together cant be very strong. Bondo held most of it. Then i see brent drilling spot welds, ever what 6 inches. That is all holds body panels together. I wish i knew this 50 years earlier i would have wanted to try. Brent you are a educator

I am amazed at how carefully you thought out this window repair. I was thinking you would have used clecos to hold the front brow panel in place, but I can see why you used the short metal screws because of the minimal amount of room for a proper fit. Great work!

I was amazed on my 62 how uneven all the spot welds were, but back in the day I suppose it was more about getting it together more than accuracy. Nice work, this thing is rustier in this area than mine was but it'll be good as new...well solid, in no time!

When you first brought that truck home, I doubt any of us ever thought there was that much rot in it. Not a lot to work with, but your fixes should work great. Getting a new windshield in should be interesting. That roof was bad enough that I would have been tempted to find another one and do a roof swap.
