Hey Lee, love the video, my mom bought my dad a 59 Meteor new for his birthday. We lived in Toronto at the time. We had it for 12 yrs then my parents traded it in for a 65 breezeway. I wished they had given the car to me, i loved that car even tho i was only 11. Im 65 now and still love the car now. Our car was a 2 door, white roof and side panels, the body was black. And 6 cyl.

Nice '59! It was not a step higher than Ford. Meteor was a lower priced car that Mercury dealers could sell, while Monarch was a higher priced car that Ford dealers could sell, so the market could be covered by either dealer. Unique to Canada The valve cover seems to indicate a later 223; '59 had two studs coming thru the top of the valve cover, iirc. To add to the confusion, in '61 Canadian Meteors were different from U.S. '61 Mercury Meteor 600, and Meteor 800. These were one year only base models (including offering a 6) to the Mercury line. Further confusion; '62-3 Meteors were Fairlane based intermediates in both markets. '64 saw the return of the full size Meteor in Canada.

Thanks for the Meteor information

I have a '59 Ford Custom 300 4 door with the 223-6 except mine has an automatic. The non-power steering on it is a bear but you didn't seem to have a problem with yours. A tip for others with '59 Fords or Meteors who might read this: the correct part number for the stock master cylinder on a '59 Ford is Raybestos MC23222, it is NOT MC18000. I know from personal experience. Speaking of master cylinders I like that you converted the Meteor to a dual master cylinder but I wish you had included the conversion in the video. I would have liked to see how you did it.
@LGKustoms7 ай бұрын
I did cover the master cylinder install starting at the 52 minute mark. There isn’t really anything special about it, it bolts right on using the original studs and brake pedal push rod.

I like this meteor! It’s got great charm. I don’t care that it’s got two to many doors and is a runty 88 hp six popper with manual steering and manual brakes. It’s got great colors, the mint metallic green and soft white color. The way the lower trim piece on the rear fenders is what fixes the awkward proportions of this body. I get why you want to move it on. But I am a bit disappointed we won’t be seeing more of this car. I can also see that this is not a car that fits into your preferences for project cars after seeing what else is in the background in your video. This would make a good moseying around town car cruising in the 35 to 55 mph range. This car does not have the suspension, brakes or hp for anything more than that. It would be a perfect car to put an overdrive in to give it a little longer legs for on the highway driving. I myself would do a partial repaint of the top sides in those single stage original colors because where I live, patina rust turns into cancer rust pretty quick. Oh, I would also look for a 1959 Ford wheel so that last hubcap would fit. I hope the missing door panel turns up. 👍

I’m happy you turned down my offer on it lol Yes like you I have other projects more deserving of my attention. Great video showing how ones abandoned project can be someone else’s driver for some time effort and a few dollars. Others need to take note how you are using RockAuto to get the part numbers but you’re buying the parts from a local parts store. Bumper to Bumper are franchises owned by locals and employing people in your community and that is important and we should all be following this example.
@LGKustoms Жыл бұрын
And it’s usually cheaper buying from my local parts store once you factor shipping in. Also if the part is wrong, swapping it out for the correct one is much easier
@AndyGeesGarage Жыл бұрын
@@LGKustoms especially here in Canada we get killed on shipping and being able to exchange for a correct part is key too. Plus trips to the parts store are fun.

@LGKustoms5 ай бұрын
Monarch and Meteor became defunct in the early 60’s and afterwards the names were reused under the Mercury marque. I believe this is where a lot of the confusion comes from with these earlier cars being called Mercurys. A 1959 “Mercury Meteor” never existed.
