Nice! I found a fixture by Fitzgerald that looks just like that but it runs 3ft tubes, it was bent in half and dumped in bushes for a good while, all paint is peeling and still has some dents but I managed to Bend the fixture back into shape, im surprised it still works considering it probably spent years outdoors with the ballast uncovered, all I need to do with mine now is repaint and then it will be almost perfect apart from some creases and dents in the metal where it was bent..

They're tough little fittings, and your one is testament to that! The gear covers on my two 8 ft Crompacks (details on the site) bent very easily, I discovered, owing to their length, but luckily, the metal is that flexible that it was re-shaped quite easily. I'd recommend using radiator paint when you come to repaint yours, as that's heat-resisting, and should retain a glossy appearance for longer.

The ballast is surprisingly quiet during preheat. My fixtures hum loudly with electronic starters.

Yeah, the Pop Packs (twin 18 W on series circuits) in the loft are a little more vocal during starting - as you say, this is virtually silent!
