MomHauls The main problems are that some people will try to return products they’ve taken from dumpsters to the store and either try to get money back or exchange it for something else at the store which is stealing, or when divers don’t clean up after themselves and leave trash everywhere for someone to have to clean up. If you’re gonna eat it, use it, or donate it cool help yourself but if you’re gonna try to return it or sell it on eBay or whatever then yeah that’s stealing and if stores lose enough money they shut down and people loose their jobs so no shit they get mad.

Also, imagine being so petty that you go out of your way to destroy something that’ll work for someone perfectly fine? Like... I “throw out” donuts for my donut shop nightly. I know people take them, they’re perfectly good. So I go out of my way to do the opposite, I make sure the donuts are tossed in nice clean bags with no other trash and left away from any other garbage got people to help themselves to. It doesn’t affect my business, and it makes me feel a lot better when I have to toss things out.

If anyone can see this, in 1988 the Supreme Court Filed that dumpster diving is perfectly legal except in city laws that specifically states that it is not. Unless there is a sign posted private property no trespassing. No one can say anything. And shopping centers are considered public property, with or without security. Law is no dumping, not no dumpster diving

Dumpsters themselves have signs some say no trespassing most say do not climb in or on the dumpster and any dumpster in a gated area is private property and unauthorized entry into those areas is trespassing. Normally law enforcement won't do anything without a complaint from the owners but the owners can have you trespassed from the property and if you come back you can be arrested. With the knowledge that this store no longer wants you in their dumpster going back is trespassing and is illegal no matter how morally right you are

I knew a guy who worked at CVS ( it totally wasn't me ) , 3 weeks after Christmas they throw away all the Christmas candy right about 200 bags of M&M's , 100 bags of Hershey Kisses and lots and lots of other candy , still in the bag thrown into a clean garbage by its self , right around 530 bags of candy were given to local food shelters , all with in expiration date . Needless to say the food shelter was ecstatic .

I love those expiration dates on food, if over that date like boxes, tins, bottles or bags of candy unopened it,s not until expiration date it is good until 3 months at leas AFTER expiration date, meat, flower and fresh food like dairy products, veggies or meat is a different story but else if still packed it's good years after. Back in the early 80's, as a young woman, I worked for a large locally owned dairy processor. ....milk, juice, yogurt, ice tea etc products. Twice a week the owners stocked a small building along the exit of the property where all employees leaving after work could stop and help themselves to products that although not expired, (they had plenty of time left before they did) were just a bit too close to that date for national distribution. Totally free. We did have a limit each could take but it was more then generous. As a young Mom, it meant so much to me that my kids could have all the juice, milk and drinks they ever needed!

They removed their 1 star review! ROFL!!!! So here is my personal response to them and all managers of stores who get angry about dumpster diving: Dear Manager, I understand that you think this hurts your bottom line and that dd is gross. Believe me, it can be. I just want to share with you why and how my kids and I HAD to start doing it. I am a single Mom of 4, but more than that, we are all survivors. When I was 5 months pregnant with my youngest child, I started having SERIOUS health problems. It turns out that I actually had cancer-Blood Cancer, specifically. I was told to kill the child in my womb and save my life or save his life and die within 3 years. I chose my baby. Waiting for treatment let the tumors grow and spread to the point that I had 28 of them. My heart and lungs and entire neck and chest cavity were filled with cancer. They literally told me I would not live long enough to see my children grow. We chose to be in a study to test the effectiveness of a higher dose of chemo over a shorter amount of time. Doing so DID put me into remission, but it also destroyed my heart, lungs, thyroid, nerve endings, and a host of other things. I am alive, but I am medically disabled. As if that were not enough, as I was in the hospital literally fighting for my life, my then husband was at home sexually abusing my children. Yes, I was trying to stay alive for them and he was destroying them. I kicked him out immediately and began the court proceedings. However, here I am, with 4 kids, and not able to work because my heart and lungs are damaged so badly. Obviously, I don't get any help from the ex. He gets plenty of help from Big Bubba in the cell next door. I HAD to find a way to make some extra cash and get at least some of the things I needed for my kids in a short time frame with little effort. That's when we found dumpster diving. Mind you, when I was able to work, my base salary was $6,000/month and that just supplemented what my then husband made. We had a good life. We paid our dues and worked hard, so the initial jump into diving was devastating to my pride. So, Mr or Ms Store Manager, things aren't always as they appear. Believe me, I would much rather be able to provide for my kids in a more conventional way and I am so glad my oldest son is so agreeable to always be the one to actually get in the dumpsters, but a conventional life almost killed all of us. I am NOT looking for pity. I am NOT looking for a handout. I am just trying every way that I know how to keep food on the table and a roof over our heads. Please, be a little more considerate. Diving isn't illegal and what we cannot use we DO donate to others. As little as we have, I think it is important to show my kids that there is always someone worse off than you and we must all take care of each other. That's all. Thanks for reading and please have a little compassion and understanding.

.This is illegal because even its lock its still the owner property let's say this your 1/6 action figurine was thrown in the garbage by your mom because its looks junk so.after an hour you notice it and see just some guy just stealing your 1/6 figurine and you want it back because you really didn't throw it away but your mom and you said that its mine but the guy stealing it said it's not your because it's on the trash or bin. let's say after you notice that your 1/6 figurine is being sold in a yard sale and you know it because of the large dot marker the you put at the arm and you said that's it's yours 1/6 figurine however he said that it's his item because you put it the trash bin and that his recycling it to make money because you did not use it and was asked to buy it if you want it back and you might be asking well he could tell the police that's it's his item but no no one will believed that it's your's like who will believed that it's your's just by the marker.you just look like some guy want that expensive 1/6 action figurines collector item and you can't afford it so you told the cops that's it's your's.let's say that 1/6 action was your yearly money worth of income and if you can't think of a way to convinced the cops it's your's then you could go to jail. and this is actually happening that the owner of the item that you just and said that it's very unprofessional like let's say you are the manager of the store and you see that there are damage product like this is a store why would they sell damaged item the costumers will not like that so you put it the dumpster so that after the one who managed that put it back to the back of the factory so that you could fix it and the one that could not be fixed will be crushed into pieces and the manager could won some hundred buck for selling parts. and you just check the dumpster and see if the stuff are still there that will be later sent and you don't know what time they came so you putt a note that it's damaged and you cannot take it like who would say that there are gonna put it in factory for fixing and the store will be in bad review's because there are buying items that could have some damage and could not be seen. And you here telling that the is very unprofessional is professional and you said who cares what happens to the damages products are just saying that its okay to steal if its damage said that its a pity the product is still the store product because its the store product that they'd buy and said that its legal is wrong because the item can still be fix later and you supporting dumpster is you supporting someone stealing there stuff and selling it back is illegal and you dumpster people that said that's it's legal if you sold it in other store is just the same because you did not buy it but stole it. Let's say you are selling it in eBay and the original item price is 200$ and you sell it for 20$ is wrong because the store or other store could fix it and selling it even 90% discount doesn't matter because you stole it and saying you are on the legal rigth means you are just some guy though it's okay to stole because it's in the dumpster the manager store are in the rigth and you are in the wrong because the manager did not said that it's okay to took it. And some people like you thought it's okay because it's a waste and should just be gifted for free while you dumpster people sold it for some bucks is just ridiculous why would they sell it for free if they could have just made some profit and dumpster people like said that its such a waste when they will waste fuel for delivering products from different house meaning cost. They could have 200 products on a truck and it will save fuel and made some profit if they sell the item's on store the costumer would just wait everyday not buying anything and just buying the damages items that could be easily fix by people and will not buy their item and just took the similar item that is for free and the store would just be bankrupt if this happened for about 1 year long. So dumpster diving is illegal because people like don't know the possible outcome that could happen is just writing like they are rigth and making like hate comments on the store and employees because they did not allow you to took it is wrong you are the wrong and pitiful.

.This is illegal because even its lock its still the owner property let's say this your 1/6 action figurine was thrown in the garbage by your mom because its looks junk so.after an hour you notice it and see just some guy just stealing your 1/6 figurine and you want it back because you really didn't throw it away but your mom and you said that its mine but the guy stealing it said it's not your because it's on the trash or bin. let's say after you notice that your 1/6 figurine is being sold in a yard sale and you know it because of the large dot marker the you put at the arm and you said that's it's yours 1/6 figurine however he said that it's his item because you put it the trash bin and that his recycling it to make money because you did not use it and was asked to buy it if you want it back and you might be asking well he could tell the police that's it's his item but no no one will believed that it's your's like who will believed that it's your's just by the marker.you just look like some guy want that expensive 1/6 action figurines collector item and you can't afford it so you told the cops that's it's your's.let's say that 1/6 action was your yearly money worth of income and if you can't think of a way to convinced the cops it's your's then you could go to jail. and this is actually happening that the owner of the item that you just and said that it's very unprofessional like let's say you are the manager of the store and you see that there are damage product like this is a store why would they sell damaged item the costumers will not like that so you put it the dumpster so that after the one who managed that put it back to the back of the factory so that you could fix it and the one that could not be fixed will be crushed into pieces and the manager could won some hundred buck for selling parts. and you just check the dumpster and see if the stuff are still there that will be later sent and you don't know what time they came so you putt a note that it's damaged and you cannot take it like who would say that there are gonna put it in factory for fixing and the store will be in bad review's because there are buying items that could have some damage and could not be seen.

Its not in their true interest to donate or help anyone hell most these companies pay their workers minimum wage for 40/hrs a week while their CEO's play golf 4 days a week and get tax breaks from the government. There are so many victims from the hurricanes, among so much more that could truly and genuinely use and NEED these type of items. According to Freegan.info, "Dumpster diving is legal in the United States except where prohibited by local regulation. According to a 1988 Supreme Court Ruling (California vs. Greenwood), when a person throws something out, that item is now the public domain." So, Mr. Manager, you had better check your local regulations. That's all I have to say.

Well as my boss put it, when we throw stuff out in the dumpsters, we are "supposed" to destroy the products and basically throw them out. If my store finds out something that was supposed to be destroyed/thrown out is missing, then it's on the store's end to find out why and I guess it becomes a issue with the district or something like that and becomes a problem. I mean, it really does suck. I had to watch my store manager toss out leather hand bags from Micheal Kors and other name brands we sell because either they were damaged somehow or we couldn't sell them. I myself had to toss things out I didn't want to and we as employees are not allowed to keep them either. In short, it sucks. Though my department store's dumpster is actually really long and tall so I don't think many people would dumpster dive into it. I'd be shocked if they did.

Former Burlington Receiving Associate here, for some odd reason we actually received mismatched shoes, we actually had a rack in the warehouse for them. I doubt you will find the other pair, they toss them out once the rack starts getting full. Most times if employees don't want to mess much with merchandise, they damage it out and policy states for us to rip it up and toss it, my supervisor would literally beat it with a hammer. I would toss out so much jewelry, clothes, shoes, strollers, furniture, toys. I never really ripped them up because we had a compactor and baler, so it was getting shredded either way. But if the Burlington has an open dumpster, have at it. I assure you will find great stuff in there, I have thrown out $100 bluetooth speakers just because they're missing stuff

@sandufloor I no longer give donations to the Salvation Army. One year around Christmas, a lot of store got together and donated brand new items (flat scree TV's, game platforms, kitchen appliances, etc. I went to Goodwill and saw all of this stuff and got furious. They were asking almost retail prices for this stuff (like on tv's , $50 less than retail on a 62" flatscreen). When I asked why they were so expensive, they promptly let me know that it was because the stuff was brand new. I said, "Yes, but it was free for you and this stuff typically is bought by low income people who could never afford a new TV and this would he their only opportunity if it wouldn't be priced so high. He just looked at me and said, "Well, I don't know what tell you." then walked off. I also found out how many of the CEO's for these nonprofit charities have salaries in the multi - millions. I donate directly to people I know need things and pay myself $O 😊.

Shon Borneman As a young woman I left an a abusive marriage with a 2 1/2 yr old and 5 months pregnant. I was not raised on welfare or did we ever have to go somewhere to get free food. I went to the Salvation Arm office looking for some help. The older man that ran that office escorted me to his office and told to sit down. He asked what I needed help with so I told him. He went on to tell me that he could get me a place to live, furniture and food if I ...........! Read between the dots. I was19 years old and scared to death. I ran out of the office crying to the car my Mom was waiting for me. The man followed me and told my Mom how he could help me if I was able to work in the office till my baby was born. My Mom knew something was wrong because I was crying. I just kept telling her to leave. The man leaned down into the car and laid a kiss on my Moms lip. She was so shocked that she fled the parking lot. This is a true story. We tried to report it but no one would listen. So each Christmas season I hear the bells ring. Someone standing there wanting my money and I say HELL NO.

Working in retail for 8+ years, I can tell you that VERY rarely do stores donate. Typically a large corp. Will just destroy a product before they give them away, which in my opinion is disgusting. I worked for a very large women's clothing name and the amount of clearance, "damaged", or not in season clothing we would throw away was grotesque. I tried to speak with our DM about doing a purge and donating the items, but the big bosses refused and I got tanked. That's what happens when you work for a place that sees you as a number and not a person. Humanity at it's finest.

Yep! Worked for Michaels and we have to destroy everything. I'm talking thousands. And they all have to go in the trash compactor so everything gets completely destroyed. It broke my heart every single day working there.
@CJG14196 жыл бұрын
Michelle Pinsky is it because of potential litigation? I used to work for a large company that would sell old office furniture to employees for next to nothing then someone tried to sue over something that broke so they had to stop doing that. Some aholes ruin it for everyone.
@MichellePinsky6 жыл бұрын
Not really sure what the reason was. When I tried to ask above management they just avoided the conversation and told me to do as I say and thats that. I don't really see how fake flowers, stamps, paper, or crafting supplies could cause someone to sue but then again who knows the true reason. I understand furniture tho because of maybe sanitary reasons? Or because like you said if it broke maybe you could get hurt? I wish I had answers. All I know is it made me sad and I always thought "hey, teachers could use these in their classrooms, or the elderly could craft something cute," everytime we destroyed the items.

I actually did this to an extent. I worked for a coffee shop and we would have to throw out all of the foods that were left out in the pastry case. Every single day we had to throw them away. I asked my manager if I could take them all to a charity house that served breakfast to the homeless every morning. When they said no, I got really mad and started separating out the pastries in its own bag. I would go pick it up and deliver it to the charity house. After a little while, someone else started picking them up for me and taking it to the charity. When I quit, I trained the next person to put the pastries in a separate bag for the trash man 😂 I hope it lasted a while!

*That manager's grammar really sucks, which begs the question how the hell did they even get that job in the first pace? i mean most stores of any caliber at all require that whomever they hire for management positions have at least SOME education but that note you were left certainly doesn't reflect much if any education at all. That is kind of petty and ridiculous that they are going to go to that kind of trouble to make it so you can't pick out a few little usable trinkets from their garbage now just because you are showing the stuff on KZbin. Plenty of other 5 below stores and ones where their managers actually have a proper education and can correctly articulate what they mean in legible handwriting, have things they throw out like that all the time and they never get salty about it just because someone shows their dumpster. Instead of ridiculing you for keeping things out of the landfills they ought to be glad something productive is being done with the things you find. Maybe they need to take their salty ass back to school before attempting to quickly scribble out another note like that. Last i wonder what kind of camera, lighting, and Mic that manager has that they think is so superior to yours. Trust me i've seen MUCH worse. and most people could care less if you're filming on your cell phone with an added mic or on an $1,500.00 4K or beter production camera. as long as it's entertaining they'll watch* one critique though SLOW DOWN fucks sakes i think i'm watching a tweeker or something when i see these videos

The 5 below people ought to make themselves familiar with the laws. It could be different where you're at, but most places, once it's out of their possession, it's no longer their property, and BESIDES, 95% or better off the manufacturers reimburse them for the things they trash, THAT'S why they trash it instead of donating it, wasteful, lazy.... @mayanmono6 жыл бұрын
Technically Goodwill buys pallets of returns and defects and breakage from Target. Also every box store has different contracts with each of their suppliers. They have to destroy things for credit because that's part of the contract. Which varies between the vendors. Not saying that I agree with waste it's ridiculous! We used to go and get two or three weeks worth of pizza. The pizza was boxed in boxes in the middle of winter. We would freeze it and use when needed. This company finally locked their trash can. So you can no longer get the food. The curse of living in such a wealthy country! Even though I'd rather be nowhere else! We still are the best country in the world!

So you are saving our landfills from being loaded with **useful* items, AND giving stuff to those that are in need. How can anyone have a problem with that? Keep doing what you do, and thank you for doing your part to save our planet. (Edit: I really don't understand why the jerk at five below has a problem with you... they *threw the stuff away*, that means they've already written it off, why should they care what happens to it once it hits the dumpster? Stupid, stupid people.)
@loganjenkins55975 жыл бұрын
I'm a little late here but I think the main reason they try to destroy things that they throw away is someone could get 10 of those cables out of the dumpster, return them for store credit, get them out of the dumpster again and keep up the cycle as long as they want. I think dumpster divers are great, they recycle and help the community as a whole, but from a business perspective it can be damaging if they are allowed to return items due to loss of revenue.
@michellemueller72885 жыл бұрын
That depends on the stores return policy. Because I do know that some stores won't even do store credit without a receipt. Because of people going in stealing things and then returning them for store credit. I don't know anything about 5 below since there's none in the state that I reside in.

Check with local hospital physical therapy departments. I’m not sure about their regulations of accepting and/or needing donations such as one shoe for amputees, but they could direct you to places that could use them if they aren’t allowed to! I know our hospital used to keep a “clothes closet” for any kind of emergency needs, or to assist patients who were down on their luck (we also used to stay stocked up on brand new coats in kids sizes during the winter because so many kids would come through our ER without a good coat (or no coat at all, and wearing a short sleeved thin T-shirt. It was heartbreaking.)

If the store does not want you to get the items they throw away after trying to destroy everything, why doesn't he/she donate to a homeless center, or to other charity places such as Salvation Army, Goodwill. Nah. If that was the case, they could donate it, find a liquidator, or use a certified destruction or recycling service. He's just being a jerk. Thete should never be an expectation that you can control what happens to items in your dumpster. Many commercial routes are floor-sorted for recyclables, electronics, etc before disposal. The contents become the property of the hauler. Floor sorters will pull out what they want. This store throws out stuff out of laziness and there is no financial incentive to reduce their waste, or their disposal costs.

My son and I added buttons on string for the arms and legs, and black gemstone beads for the mouth and his chest buttons, an old pillow (for the filling), some orange duct tape (for the carrot nose) and I knit them little scarves out of embroidery floss, for scarves. I actually got googly eyes at the dollar store that I glued on too! My son and I gave them to all of his aunts and uncles and grandparents, and they went over SO WELL! .This is illegal because even its lock its still the owner property let's say this your 1/6 action figurine was thrown in the garbage by your mom because its looks junk so.after an hour you notice it and see just some guy just stealing your 1/6 figurine and you want it back because you really didn't throw it away but your mom and you said that its mine but the guy stealing it said it's not your because it's on the trash or bin. let's say after you notice that your 1/6 figurine is being sold in a yard sale and you know it because of the large dot marker the you put at the arm and you said that's it's yours 1/6 figurine however he said that it's his item because you put it the trash bin and that his recycling it to make money because you did not use it and was asked to buy it if you want it back and you might be asking well he could tell the police that's it's his item but no no one will believed that it's your's like who will believed that it's your's just by the marker.you just look like some guy want that expensive 1/6 action figurines collector item and you can't afford it so you told the cops that's it's your's.let's say that 1/6 action was your yearly money worth of income and if you can't think of a way to convinced the cops it's your's then you could go to jail. and this is actually happening that the owner of the item that you just and said that it's very unprofessional like let's say you are the manager of the store and you see that there are damage product like this is a store why would they sell damaged item the costumers will not like that so you put it the dumpster so that after the one who managed that put it back to the back of the factory so that you could fix it and the one that could not be fixed will be crushed into pieces and the manager could won some hundred buck for selling parts. and you just check the dumpster and see if the stuff are still there that will be later sent and you don't know what time they came so you putt a note that it's damaged and you cannot take it like who would say that there are gonna put it in factory for fixing and the store will be in bad review's because there are buying items that could have some damage and could not be seen.

That letter is not from a manager it has to be from another dumpster diver a manager is not going to take the time to sit out there and write all that out and leave it in a dumpster for you they're going to come out and talk to you direct so no that's another dumpster diver trying to scare you away okay managers don't sit around watching dumpster diver videos you don't have time for that lol

Did you know a veterans hospital could use those mismatched shoes. Some have only one leg sadly
@Donna7776 жыл бұрын
Those mismatch rain boots can be used as planters! It's a trendy craft thing I've seen on Pinterest and other sites. :)

The manager should hang his head in shame, considering the items they dispose of are useful items, retailers shoul consider donating to the needy. This way the labour, energy and resources to produce the goods continue to benefit rather then polute the planet. Name and shame, maybe they will learn. Clearly no one in the retail sector is using their brain, or ever gone without. Shameful, destroying a blanket, when you could simply donate to a homeless person. Tfs

What a shitty manager you'd rather this stuff went to the dump than it going to people who could get some use out of it it's called re cycling how is this planet going to change if people like you do shitty stuff like this...MR JOBS WORTH...😡😡😡😡😡
