@@rnli Can you join the RNLI With asthma? My brother wants to know since he has it

All of our lifeboat and lifeguard volunteers undergo a medical assessment at application. If he has any condition which would/could cause problems regarding his fitness to navigate/crew a vessel, it's unlikely he will pass the medical test. If his asthma is manageable however, this would be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Yes, Gyllyngvase beach is one of our lifeguarded beaches, very close to Swanpool!

I'm quite familiar with the beaches by Trevose from Porthcothan to Harlyn, but anytime I go to any new beach in Cornwall I've never been to before, I always have a chat with the lifeguards before I get in the sea. Ask them how the rips are looking, What they think the weather is going to be like etc. Even though I'm quite a competent swimmer and surfer, I have so much respect for the Ocean and I'm how powerful it is. It can catch anyone out.
