Ah yes, another reminder that I messed up living in the US Midwest where I can't just have a maintained outdoor rink that I can skate at for free. I would live on the ice if I had that chance.

The back foot that you plant are you trying to eventually transition to the outside edge to stop faster? I dislocated my left foot and don't trust it fully yet so the weak side scares me

Back foot eventually plants so you get 55/45 weight distribution on front to back skates, instead of stopping with mainly your front leg. Practice one leg outside edge stops (not covered in this video), where you glide to a stop on that back foot, and just get comfortable with skidding on that back foot for things like punch turns and tight turns or just down the rink, until you feel like you have better control of that outside edge and the back leg on the hockey stop will come almost naturally. If you have a nasty tight turn you should be able to do the hockey stop with that back leg no problem.

@@Blissea thank you. I have a wicked tight turn instead of a stop that my actual ice hockey friends call the rollerblade stop. I can pirouette like a champ...

@@erik4894 Ha, I feel that. That's what I've been working to correct. I just brought over the "it's not a stop, it's a tight turn" from rollerblading as a kid, which made learning to actually stop well a pain in the ass.
