I'm absolutely floored that you guys actually looked at the little Suzuki SX4! I have a 2008, and it's an absolute beast in the snow (nearly unstoppable when equipped with snow tires). Great little vehicle and so many people discount it because of its looks and name. It's really too bad that Suzuki stopped manufacturing for the U.S. market. I actually just added a new 2017 Tacoma TRD Off-Road to the family because the little SX4 is migrating from my weekend car to the daily work driver. I've added an updated infotainment center, projector headlight assemblies, LED tail light assemblies, x4 6" LED aux lights, and front and rear skid plates on the SX4. Mechanically, the only issue I've had is a failed A/C compressor.

First off, want to say I'm a big fan of TFL's channels. Especially the SUV & Truck reviews. I totally get that all auto reviews go off of the stock vehicle, so the public can make an informed purchase decision, and therefore it's up to the manufacturer to understand the market and come up with the right packages to ensure their product can check off the right boxes. However, when it comes to off road reviews, I really wish all platforms (not just TFL) would get some moderately off-road worthy tread onto the test vehicles. This is sort of like showing up to a hiking excursion wearing wingtip oxfords instead of hiking boots, or at least trail rated sneakers. I think a lot of crossovers & SUVs with less than a hardcore image are far more off-road worthy than would be known!

I must say that for a 9yr old car with 70k on the clock it drives like new. Sure it won't set your pants on fire with it's performance, but it's not bad. Quite a sporty feel to it for such a tall car too. I would recommend one. 👍

Well, I've rented SX4 during my trip to Crete - I've asked for SUV and got that one :-) Anyway, my mood was down when I first saw the car, But.. I have to tell, that it was AWD version and I gave it a hard time. Literally, in 3 weeks we did most mountain tracks and "roads" - it performed amazingly well. Not a single case of stuck anywhere and we were driving on top of mountains sometimes with no roads at all all 3 weeks. Granted, you have to watch your clearance.
@mattphillips28443 жыл бұрын
Testing the off-road capability of crossovers is dumb. They are built for the road and to be versatile daily drivers that excel better than a car in wet or snow conditions on the road. My 2011 V6 RAV4 sport drives like new at 160K miles. Its a thrill to drive and was paid off 5 years ago and needs next to nothing. In the long run Toyota’s allow you to be wealthy and stay that way. So there is no competition as to which is best unless you like spending 2 to 3 times more for transportation. Over the past 20 years owning Toyota’s allowed me to buy a motorhome and and old Celica convertible. I got five cars, 4 Toyota’s, 1 motorhome and zero debt.

I watched this for the first time today because I was looking for a small UTE to haul the dogs to the beach in. My 10 year old GX is just still too nice for the amount of grime they drag into car with and my Honda Element is no match for Outer Banks. Your commit should out because I laughed out load when those guys picked the Subaru over the V6 Rav4 based on style and the generic steering wheel feel of... lets call it what it is; the numb Toyota steering wheel feel. I've my last 4 cars were the SL500, NSX (1st Gen), a Toyota Supra, and a BMW E46 325i. During that time I had and Have a Honda Element, GX460, Tundra, E320, and a Camry. I love the TFL crew and show, but the bottom line is either you can drive or you can't. And going fast in a straight line, just means the car can go fast in a straight line. If you doubt me on this, just ask any Ferrari driver that's been out driven by a VW Golf on the Nurburgring. FYI, I'm sold on the V6 Rav4 and I'm so Sorry the guys lead you astray. If it helps, I feel that the Subaru is a fantastic vehicle for a daily driver over the Rav4 in so many areas. But from an end of the world, financial, and time spent maintaining a vehicle prospective, I see more value in reliability and functional potential in the Rav4.

Never once, not once, mentioned THE most important off roadability factor cup holders ... No, not cup holders, CLEARANCE. A two wheel drive with plenty of clearance will simply spank the pants off a lot of all wheel drives in off road conditions. I lived in the empty quarter of Arabia, monstrous sand dunes. I'll never forget the sight of a Datsun 1.8 litre two wheel drive pickup cruising past a Landcruiser 'Sahara' bogged up to its axles. Superior clearance, oh, and knowing how to drive off road helps.

In snow you need tires for rav 4, for small incline off road it will be easy on rav4 stock

My 2005 3.5 v6 awd Hyundai Santa fe will out perform all. Granted I have mud terrain tires on it, but nothing stops it. I out performed my friends 2015 wrangler that had the same tires just a size bigger. I love my car. Should definitely test mine out. If I could figure out how to send you a video we mad one for the adventure

I have Yet to understand exactly what you mean by the Subaru is the car you drive and the RAV4 is the one you ride in. I also can't understand what is meant by what you said about one being fun and the other not..I'm sure you don't mean drag racing and I also know neither will do heavy off-roading. What's wrong with the steering in the RAV4? I've owned a 2007 and currently own a 2010. Both V6 SPORT models, AWD..I can't feel anything different about the steering other than the wider, low pro tires are huggy to the road..personally, I like the RAV4's look better than the Forester. Everyone has an opinion.
@themicky53209 жыл бұрын
It means the Toyota is O.K. to get from A to B. The Subaru will obviously do that, but is considered more of a driver's car (for people that actually love to drive). I believe that you need a manual shift for control and performance. The Forester can be had with a 6 speed manual.
@jayccarlos10182 жыл бұрын
Forester is a better car, until you have it serviced. Rav4 will easily last 20 years with barely a problem.

Are you thinking of bringing the desiel 2.0t to America? We are still working on developing the software to fool the emissions test, but once that's been done, we will surely bring it to the US.

where did the "off roading" take place it looks fun
@butlerproman10 жыл бұрын
Why does almost every moment of this (and videos like it) filled with irritating, jangly, amateurish music? Also, not sure they know the meaning of the word "quirk". I would hope that safety, dependability and roominess are not "quirks".
@butlerproman9 жыл бұрын
***** I agree. In this case, less is more. No music would mean I could more easily hear the commentary. Plus, no music means nobody has to be annoyed by a musical style not to their taste. A little intro, a little outro and you're good.

I have the 2011 sx4 crossover. I live where the curves are like the Dragon's Tail. This is a fun car to drive corners at unrealistic speeds and grabs the road with cat claws. I have gotten no snow worth mentioning this year but was wanting to play. The sx4 is a bit over powered. It uses a bit of gas and has a small tank. but this car is real fun. I usually get 0 to 60 in less than 10 secs and never got that in my 3.4L toyota tacoma 4wd. I love the crossover.

Hope I get your meaning here. But the Grand Cherokee is now built on the mercedes W166 chassis, and I believe (but could be wrong) is more or less a truck chassis (rear wheel drive) so then it would still fall under the SUV category as it isn't built on a car chassis like the new explorer. Although, if you mean in the video, that's the jeep compass, that is a car chassis, same used on the calibur and most of their mid sized cars and the mitsu outlander.

I live in the city and drive long distances to get to work, which is on a ranch. I live in NM so we deal with extreme heat, and believe it or not, extreme winters too. I'm trying to decide between a Suzuki sx4 Crossover and a Jeep Patriot. Which car do you think would be best for my situation? Other car enthusiasts feel free to give your input too.
