We find it very ironic that your current marketing campaign promotes the use of your railway for the young when we are financially penalised for our 16 year old son’s daily commute from Windsor to his school in Hayes. His adventures have stalled. He is in Year 11 taking his GCSE’s in May 2019. His 16th birthday was in December making him one of the older children in his academic year. London Transport allow additional time after their 16th Birthday to complete their last year of education without being penalised (being charged a full adult fare), as extracted “If your child was 15 on 31 August, they can still apply for and use an 11-15 Zip Oyster photocard, even though they'll use it when they're 16”. yet you do not adopt the same consideration. We explored applying for a young person’s railcard but this excludes early morning travel. The difference in a child fare of £5.35 return and an adult fare of £10.70 return is an increase of 50%, an extra £107 per month. We are now in the unfortunate situation of having to drive our son to and from school wherever possible to minimise this financial burden. He was transferred from his local secondary school to a specialist state school in Hayes at the beginning of Year 10 to support his interest in gaining media qualifications. The disparity in fares is very relevant as the government actively encourages further education, towards a school leaving age of 18.
