Here's an Old-time clawhammer banjo lesson for Clyde Davenport's setting of Five Miles (aka Five Miles from Town, Five Miles to Town, Five Miles Out of Town). In the banjo lesson, I play 5 miles fast and then slowly. At the end I give a more thorough walk through/lesson. It's the companion part to a fiddle video of the tune that I posted last week. I'm trying to capture how Clyde Davenport played it on banjo (and I think it's pretty close to what he did). Clyde played several Old-time banjo styles. This piece is played in a downstroke / frailing / clawhammer style. I'll be posting another two finger up-picking banjo version of the tune soon, so please subscribe if that's interesting. Thanks for listening/watching. Please subscribe if this was useful or interesting.
I'm a bit sharp Double C (gCGCD). It's fiddled in D, so you'd need to crank it up if you're playing with a fiddler.
PS: I love teaching Old-time banjo and fiddle lessons if you're into this kind of stuff. I really enjoy helping folks learn to listen to old recordings and figure out how to interpret what's going on. I also like helping folks get a grip on clawhammer banjo approaches and 2 finger banjo stuff. I love helping people remove clutter from their clawhammer and figure out how to make the best possible music.
