It is quite coplicated the feminist question. Dita works with the sexualization of her body and she declares to be a streepers. Problems start when we consider that she had a better work conditions that 99% of streapers. And to be a sexual object still a problem for most women nowadays. So, even if she represents a good exemple of female business, and also an empowered image of woman, the "cost" of her mass media success are the expectation for women (and men too) to be perfect and glamourous all the time. Even if Dita said many times that she believes in "personal glamour for all", the media use people like her to claim the contrary: everyone had to be perfect. So, I think that feminists are against the use of Dita´s image in mass media, more that Dita herself.
@DarkKittycat7 жыл бұрын
there are 2 perspectives in feminism, the ones that are letting go the superficial image of women because they drastically dont want to be seen in a standard mold, and there are women out there embracing the standard mold as a part of celebrating their femininity and working their way up from there. Because no matter what you look like people should threat you like a person and take you seriously, and that is what feminism is about, not about what you look like. Its simply a self respecting woman that stands up for herself and is not just nodding yes at everything and doesnt bring others down and Dita is that. And the guy who is asking her about breast implants is just straight down disrespectful, see the difference? Its like the lady and the peasant
@yolandacolorado93526 жыл бұрын
I think is a mistake to debate whether the search for perfection is a good or a bad thing. Perfection doesn't exist. It's easy to believe that since Dita wears makeup all the time she doesn't accept herself. I can tell you from a personal experience that I truly enjoy makeup, heels, and dresses; is a way of fast-biography and I get to show my personal values and ideas. The argument that says that women changing her looks are superficial, is actually one of the MOST superficial arguments because not all women do "drag" because they are insecure, or hate themselves. I'm sure Dita and a lot of other people (included myself) will be more than fine if makeup and heels stop existing, we just won't feel the FREEDOM to express ourselves with the same excitement. Check out this video on why clothes matter: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpXEYqGOmNB4r5Y

Traditional feminist? The feminists who are traditional in today’s day in age were from the 60s and onward. They we’re the hippies, or the disco chicks who believed in not just equal rights, but owning your own sexuality. Being publicly displayed because they wanted that form to become normalized. For children to grow up and understand it and not fantasize or desire it too much. When nudity becomes a norm, it won’t be such an issue with people, especially men to hurt or take advantage of it.

These ladies that love to live in the past with their retro style are a rare breed. Before I say anymore, I love the retro style. OK, that is out of the way. I think these retro-style ladies are rare here in Ohio. You have to admit, she must get stares everywhere she goes. I watched another of her interviews out on KZbin and when she dates young men, they say - I've never met anyone like you. Well, I have to say she is truly unique - like 1949 & Bettie Paige living in 2014. Guys like to be teesed and flirted with - she has that down. Younger guys and gals today are for the most part completely out of touch with that era. She said in another interview that ladies should try harder to learn more about how to pleasure their man. She's made an effort to be knowledgeable about these things. Please listen to Ms Von Teese ladies. OK, I've looked high and low for a gal like this here where I live and have yet to find. When she said she likes to drive her vintage cars, it was no surprise to me. This woman has Va Va Voom and that's the sounds her cars make.

While she may be a very interesting and lovely person, she clearly doesn't know what burlesque actually is if she thinks that it is the same as stripping. Burlesque is a form of theatre and should have some meaning or story tied into it. I'm tired of her getting more attention and praise for her meaningless acts than people like Dirty Martini whose acts actually mean something. I don't hate her by any means, I just don't think she should be able to call herself a burlesque star when, in her own words, all she's doing is "stripping".
