Thanks for showing Tuscany Superb! I just planted 2 of them and it's great to know how they actually look in a garden.

Beautiful. Our 'Burgundy Iceberg' has been a joy in a not dissimilar way. Though not as fragrant as some, it's prolific blossoms are a repeating delight~~

I'll add 'Belle de Crecy' (smoky violet gallica) and 'Indigo' (magenta-purple portland) to that list.

Thanks. Love Belle de Crecy, but haven't put my hands on Indigo yet.

Do these dark roses do better with a bit of shade? I like in sunny Zone 5 Michigan, and can plant in open shade, if sunscald would be an issue. Thanks!
@FraserValleyRoseFarm3 жыл бұрын
Hi Pepper - at least one I grow (Souv. du Docteur Jamain) appreciates some shade for best performance. High or open shade makes for a surprisingly good growing environment for roses, especially where summers are intense.

@@FraserValleyRoseFarm Thanks, I have a wooded hillside that I can plant the edge of and get that open shade. Ee get a fair amount of heat despite being in the upper midwest. I have an open hilltop (read windy) so will likely try to protect all but the hardies roses.

Hi Jason! I've been watching and loving your videos. I am looking for a new addition of rose for my garden and I was hoping you can help me out. I live in Austin TX, zone 8. We have hot summer and mild winter here. I want to find some high-centered shaped rose, preferably with soft color such as champion, cream, soft pink, lavender. I don't mind high maintenance varieties, as long as they can do well in this Texas summer heat. Any suggestion? Thank you so much!

Maybe have a look at Savannah (Kordes Sunbelt) for a soft pink. I've also done really well with Kosmos Fairy Tale (it opens up quite fully petalled, but does have a high center in bud).

@@FraserValleyRoseFarm The pictures of these 2 varieties looked GORGEOUS! They will be perfect for cut flowers. Hope I can find them locally. Thank you so much!

Thanks for posting these videos! I've always wanted to see their growth habit before I buy them. My goodness! I didn't realise how purple CdM is. I've always thought CdM was a beet-root Red colour. And LBS blooms look smaller than TS. Do you have Souneir de La Malmaison, Madame Pierre Oger, or Gloire de Dijon? I hope you can do a video review on them too! Thanks!

The question is...where did that dark maroon color of 'Tuscany Superb originate? Certainly r. gallica and its relative, r. gallica officinalis, are pink. So the color of Tuscany Superb is surely a mystery. Your Charles de Mills is the ideal wine color, though; I've seen (and have) hot pink specimens of it as well. I wonder if there's volor variance to CdM depending on the supplier and one's soil type. Perhaps you can shed some light on this...

What about lavender crush?
@FraserValleyRoseFarm3 жыл бұрын
I haven't grown the variety, but I checked the comments and ratings on Helpmefind, and they're pretty positive: good strong lemon scent, and fairly vigorous too (which can be a problem for modern lavender roses)

You should try Erinnerung an Brod. I don't have it, but I've seen pictures. I think it gets pretty big.
