A devastated community in the southwest of Sydney is mourning the loss of five teenagers killed in a shocking car crash. The 18-year-old driver was the only survivor. Police believe speed may have been a factor in the accident.

I live in Buxton I was coming home from my family and it was closed off near my street it was said that a lot of the children were not wearing seatbelts, and I remember another crash it was my next door neighbours daughter was in that car in 2002, she was being unsafe lying down in the back of the car my parents were over there comforting my neighbours, they were ringing hospitals, one hospital said they had a girl but it didn’t match my neighbours daughter my parents had already figured out that she had died but left it to the police to tell that she had died. "Speed MAY have been a factor"? East Parade at Buxton is a 60 km/h zone the whole length, considering the damage and that no other vehicle was involved speed was definately a factor.
@botterminator2 жыл бұрын
Exactly, a bunch of young hoons in the making. From the looks of it the car rolled ripping up the road as it went, only thing stopping them was the trees. They'd had to be doing at least 100.

I find it fascinating in how over the years, that often the irresponsible driver survives with minor injuries while their passengers or those in the other car they crash into die. Or at least that's my perception, as those are the car crash stories that seem to be picked out to be shown to everyone.

The driver is the first to know when something has gone wrong and brace themselves using the steering wheel.
@botterminator2 жыл бұрын
@@friendlyoldbum9182 That's right, plus cars are well-designed to protect the area where the steering wheel and pedals are - basically the main origin of car inputs. Looking at the debris and damage on the road, seems like the car rolled several times moving extremely fast before finally being stopped by those trees. If anything, the driver was holding onto the steering wheel as this was happening and had less space to bounce around, reducing spinal injury. The rest would have been hitting the roof, probably broke their necks or had severe head trauma as it rolled. The body just isn't designed to handle that, especially younger people. The driver also had a neck brace on as he was being wheeled out, meaning if he had potential spinal injuries, then imagine what the passengers had. Most of the time from my experience seeing these crashes, the spinal injuries and brain hemorrhaging are what kills them.

Such a horrific accident!😕 I'm in the U.S. and had to look up what P plates are. The basics of my quick search said that those drivers have stricter rules to abide by...no cell phones, not even hands free; can't drive late at night. I also saw a limit of only one passenger aged 16 to 20. Did I get it reasonably correct? Was he in violation by having so many teenagers in the car? I like the idea of a visible indicator on cars that are driven by new drivers. Are there any logical downsides that arise from this system?

Not sure how the driver survives that, looking at the wreckage particularly the driver's door. Would have taken some velocity / speed to cause such an impact. Viewing the road which is full of trees and narrow, cautious driving would be ideal. If driver has broken laws, I hope a considerable sentence is imposed.

It's always the same old story. Inexperienced young driver, too many passengers in the car and speeding. When you apply for your driver's licence the applicant agrees to abide by the road rules, that's a condition for holding a licence. And generally there's 2 ways to learn in this life, the easy way and the hard way. If you don't learn the easy way and follow rules and good advice about safe driving then learning the hard way comes automatically, as sure as the sun is going to rise.

So let me get this straight, this Nissan Patrol Wagon had 6 people in it, including the driver? So what, the passenger side had one person, and in the back 4 people? So not only was it cramped and full of people, but the driver was speeding and showing off. When you look at the kids involved and 18 year old, it's pretty clear had this not happened, they would have killed a lot more people with their reckless attitude on the roads.
