Maybe you are missing few more things - tubeless tires, simple phone connectivity and adjustable screen. Other than that all those things that you mentioned are upgradable even now…the question is what will be the price after all the improvements. Probably somewhere in the range of brand new Ducati Desert X Rally. Of course it really depends on the intended use case…I would love to have the cast wheels from the 800RE, it’s better front screen if touring, back to 18/21 combo if doing mostly off-road, etc. This is the best about this bike - you can adapt it to your needs.

Another great video, Curtis. I love the DE, and no bike is perfect. Suzuki most likely won't change anything on it for 10+ years. Hopefully, it will gain a cult following, like the "bush pig" DR650, and there will be options for many upgrades. You can buy a cruise controller for the DE. If Warp9 loves the DE as much as the DR, they will make an 18" rear wheel. The weight of the DE and DR is what keeps me in shape. Suzuki weight equals strength equals reliability.

Another great vid Curtis, thanks. I've just ridden Katherine/Broome, Gibb River Rd, Bungle Bungles & Tanami to Alice. The 800 handled it supurbly & great comfort for me. Re changes, I actually found the suspension great. I'm only 70kg but carried 20-30kg cargo. I guess you are doing harder off road but for outback work I couldn't fault it. Weight, yes, totally agree. I was deliberating shooting the Simpson before homebound to cairns. I reckon it's possible but such hard work on rider and clutch. I did a lot of sand travel this trip & bike needs speed to get over sand, something that would be very difficult in the Simpson. You'd also need another day or so because of the slow going, so you'd need carry extra extra kgs h20. I'll come back for the Simpson on my Dr 650. Cheers. PS headlight is 50 candle power, max!

Hi mate, how much do you weight and are you able to achieve 30% sag with preload on the hyperpro spring? If yes how many clicks do you need. I'm 90 kg and I pretty much need to crank the rear shock all the way (36 clicks if I remember correctly) to achieve something acceptable on the stock rear shock.

I agree with your suggested upgrades. I have also been hearing, but haven't found anything solid, on flashing the ECU to get more power/change the power band. It makes sense that there would be one, because the same motor is in the GSX-8S, which Suzuki calls a naked streetfighter. The 800DE is shipped meeting EURO-5 emissions. Flashing could put you near 100HP/74.5kW, vice the stock 83hp/62kW. Oh, for those that think the windscreen is too small, the normal street version 800 (No DE) windscreen is a direct bolt on and is much larger, both taller and wider..

Woolich do ECU tuning for it and yep, people are getting good gains from that alone. Not much in terms of peak HP, but torque throughout the whole range and timing making it much more snappy

It's been 10-12 horsepower and 10 ft-lb. Yes, a good increase at top end, basically everywhere. Full exh system, airbox lid replacement, Sprint air filter, velocity stacks, and a quality tune. I bet with an exhaust and lithium battery, this bike would lose about 12-14 pounds weight.

Nice video again Curtis! I think Suzuki and Honda will do cc as an accessory. Both are bikes that will be in their catalogs for a long time. Btw, Hopefully you will get many more subcribers as you pointed it out. I knew when i started watching your KLR adventures it might take some time to get it grow, but this channel really deserves it! I didnt know it will take this long though. Suggestion: maybe you will need to go to a longer adventure like riding with tom or Adam Rieman do? It would be fantastic to see you and your DE (or Kawa) on the top of the Big Red. Just my 2 cents.

Well presented Crazy man Curtis! With respect to the USB port, I’d recommend a 90deg adapter that brings your cable closer in to the windshield. $10 bucks will get you out of strife. If it gets caught & snags, the adapter will probably pull out but not rip it out. Just make sure the plug & outlet is pointing up rather than down because there are 4 versions. Free tip.

Absolutely agree with the usb charger placement, the springs and cruise control. If you change the weight, where's it coming from? The easy fix is a smaller fuel tank but that is one of it's great pluses, the 18" rear is only an issue for you adventure enduro riders :)

Excellent. I think the pushing around issue\weight it actually the fork rake. It can be felt when turning in, it doesn’t turn easily ( hence it is so stable), and when pushing it in garage, you can feel that reluctance to turn. It isn’t weight, it’s the resistance from what I think is a shallow fork angle. ?

It's the same old problem...especially when they have competition in their own line up..the bigger displacement model.....800cc is enough for the majority of people, if you put all the bells and whistles on the 800, why buy the bigger one!.....Honda Trans alp, and Africa twin....fighting for the same thing. I've come to the conclusion, and yet to convince the missus, I need 3 or 4 bikes...each designed for a particular ride I wish to take. I will let you know how that logic progresses....🤣🤣 Garth

Lack of cruise killed it for me, Curtis. And while pricing is competitive, you get a lot more with the DE than say the Transalp. The rest of the competition is $3-4k more expensive so there's your tech and weight saving.

Totally agree about the tires. Is it a geometry handling thing for the 17in rear tire? So many adventure bikes do it even though the 18in allows for greater tire choice.

No it's like always cost cutting thing. 17 is few cents cheaper to make so cheap brands like suzuki will prefer it over negligible performance difference that 18 gives you (in reality nobody can feel difference but it's obviously nice to have "best" thing anyway)

Just bought my new 2024 800 DE a week ago. Due to weather, I have only been able to put 171 mile on it so far: Mine will be used 99.9% for street riding so I find it to be as good or better than my Past Africa Twin or recently sold Kawasaki Versys 650LT.

I agree about the weight. The rear doesn't bother me to much. USB is a bit of a pita but its easily fixed. I wonder how the tunning would be for that 800CC to push it to Transalp levels of HP. I just clocked in 17k. I wish the front shifter was collapsable as I keep bending it. Curtis check out Cycle World Baja Vstrom Build, they replaced front end with RMZ450 Forks and changed out to a 18 rear. Its pretty sick build.

Suzuki probably a bit between a rock and a hard place with suspension. You've taken yours through some stuff that you're average owner including me are never going to tackle on the DE. I have a dirt bike for that stuff. A lot of 800s are going to spend a lot of time on tarmac with the odd dirt road and maybe a fairly easy track at a leisurely pace for which suspension is perfect. Same for weight, it carries it well and if youve got some miles to cover on road weight is your friend for stability and comfort if there's a bit of wind about so perhaps you should just appreciate it for what it is and enjoy those gnarly tracks on your KLX

@@onthebackwheel Hey mate, just a bit of an update, really pleased with the cruise control, the quality of the product is awesome, and that's coming from someone that has spent most of his life working with computers and office equipment, you can just tell its a quality kit. Yes, it's a fair chunk of money (about a grand aus) but doubt there is a better one, that's what my research of all of the others says anyway. If anybody wants to go down the same path as me, they can use "advrider" as a discount code and get the price of a carton off the package. Anyway just wanted to praise this company, the install guide was clear to follow, not the sort of thing that can be rushed, took me about 4 hours over a couple of days to fit it and test but most of the time is getting the bodywork and tank off for the first time, so if you already know how to do that, that will save you a heap of time.

I test it second time last week and man, what great bike….for me the suspension on tarmac is riding on cloud here in Quebec, Canada…the road are so bad. I sold my T7 last year to bought this bike but, no more yellow color, so i end up with 390 adventure for this season….next year looking for something else? This is my top contender👍

Some of the things you could do to shed some weight off of it is to: - remove the useless crash bars (what's the point of them when the bike rolls on the shifter lever and foot rest first) - remove the useless engine plate (or replace with a much lighter one) - replace the stock acid battery with Li-ion one - replace the stock exhaust muffler (I see you already did that) - pour only half a tank when going off-roading I agree on the subframe under the seat being too massive. I was actually thinking of making that from carbon fibre. Regarding the suspension stiffness, I think it really depends on the rider's weight. I am 10kg lighter than you and I don't feel the issue as much as you, if at all.

The crash bars have paid for themselves 20 times over, same with the bash plate. The only decent one that is lighter is the AXP, and it is a very similar weight. She's just a big girl. Carbon fiber would be very trick, $$$$ though!

Honestly I've been trying to find a bike to live on the Welsh borders with more umph than my CRF250L ( no long distance travel required ) and it really comes down to this, a Scrambler XC, a too tall tenere, or, as I suspect would be the best option, a good old XT660R.

@@onthebackwheel 450L's were sold briefly but aside from the astronomical price the service schedule was ridiculous. The 701 is a very tall bike, I'm 175, so I'll need to find one to ride to see if the lightweightness offsets it. I'm not sure about lowering one whether it messes up the chassis

@@onthebackwheel I had high hopes for the new tenere explore which was supposed to be 20mm lower but id swear it was taller than the old stocker. Perhaps the revised suspension means less sag. Trust me on paper the 701 has been the perfect bike for me for years but I've been riding for long enough to know where a 930mm seat height ends! I'm not entirely sure that these so called adv bikes need quite that much suspension travel.

Had the chance to ride this bike, for a few days in mixed types of roads . Comparing it to my good old DL1000 or other bikes i had the chance to ride through those years, it's imposible .. ,this is featherweight , well built, eager, balanced bike. I would have to be really picky to find anything ^really^ wrong on the bike. They're also built to last , which in real life is very important, especially if you ride alone or abroad .The competition is chinese made, flamboyant, Flashy, boasty , and overpriced . You get the Vstrom to get the job done.

You should really change those springs already. Just did mine and it's a night and day difference, especially with forks. With stock springs the fork was violently bottoming out even with max preload and comp, but with stiffer springs it's not happened even once! And you dont need to turn max comp and preload anymore so forks actually works like they should, a lot less harsh in a smaller hits. And now it stays higher on a stroke and dont dive like stock which makes riding deep sand so much easier. Rear is much better too but difference is not that huge when compared to forks. It holds my weight better and sag is like it should be but i have to keep my comp and rebound at max and it still feels a little bit under damped compared to front. For sure you can ride faster now than stock and rear doesnt do anything weird, it just feels like rear shock is now the first thing to hold you back instead of forks. Buyed my spring kit from Hessler. Fork springs are a bit shorter than stock and come with extra spacers. Dont know if that was some kind of magic trick why they seems to resist bottoming so well or maybe every proper spring kit will do the same.

Hey mate, to me anyway, I don’t need CC but the weight and that rear 17 inch wheel is an issue. If they could drop 10-15kgs that would be fantastic ! I think most people who use there bikes off road usually get some suspension work done as there are not many bikes you can buy today that have really good suspension out of the door. Will you be getting any suspension work done? Also I know you have probably been asked this 100 x but any news on the CRMoto 450 review??

I've been riding one for a year and yes its a really good allrounder. The soft suspension doesn't seem a issue for me at72kg.. anyway i found the headlight inadequate during night times. Did you experience this too?

Mate, totally agree, saving weight is always a good thing, but you've got to compare apples with apples. The F900GS...10kg lighter... is a different bike...its tank is too small, no luggage rack...not a touring bike. Dunno what the F900GS is actually for, because there are way better bike dirt bikes out there anyway. Btw, the F900GS Adv is about 15kg heavier than this Suzuki. Love your reviews anyway. Cheers

It needs new engine without vibrations, catalic placed in place where it does not roast leg, tubeless tires, 20kg less, front suspension that does not dive 2meters below ground surface, wind protection. Except of that this is great bike.

For an all-rounder bike, I use it everyday, and I sometimes have to ride at night, especially in winter time. That is when I found that the lights design is weird. Totally inefficient, even scary. I installed additional lights but I think people should not be obliged to do it. I also find that the side stand is not reliable. It does not unfold enough to accomodate various terrains, and also seems weak by design, comparing with a Tenere or a Triumph.

I don't understand why your channel isn't over 75K subscribers Curtis, your content is excellent. Great point on the cruise control. (cough cough Yamah T7) Suzuki should build the bike with the 18" rear, I think companies still use the 17" rear for cost and height issues, they should know by now the advantages of the 18". Janus is designing a ADV/Dual-Sport bike and in testing they had a 17" rear and that was my one criticism, I think they have changed to an 18" rear with the new test bikes. Way cool retro bikes but costly.

Surprised you made no comment on the bicycle lights that this bike is equipped with. Nobody talks about that. Does anyone ride at night? If you do you will need auxiliary lights. I was so puzzled that I took out immediately my Tiger 900 Rally Pro and the difference if night and day. Yes, bring the cruise control….I would buy it as an option.

All those decisions are made by bean counters and marketing anyway, its all fuckin common sense, its not like these companies don't know they make half assed bikes, is all intentional unfortunately and will never change, u have to count on small players(if u want bike that have it "all") that don't play those marketing and upselling games (YET) like aprilia or kove, because their mid size adv is flagship already

Great video but I think you missed the most obvious downside: tubed tyres. Just imagine changing the back tyre in the middle of nowhere...mission impossible for most of riders including myself.

Suzuki engineers: *swap suspension springs, maybe close up the rebound circuits a tad, no price difference *reduce weight from motorcycle, reengineer various parts for weight reduction, potentially cost to the customer *swap for 18" rear wheel, probably no cost increase *move cruise control from DL1050 to incorporate to DL800. Probably no real cost to the customer

In all honesty i bypassed the 800DE mainly because the lack of cruise control, i have carpel tunnel and i need to stretch my hands a bit and especially on long highway stretches to my destinations
