Yay HKU alumni 😍 I think Athletes and Scientists share very similar life and fate in terms of the requirement of discipline, the loneliness, and the low rate of success. Therefore, it is crucial that we find ourselves in Athletics/ Science due to internal fulfullment.

@@KshitijTiwari I am a swimmer, and every time I swim I tell myself "Improving my time start with 100% focus on each stroke." You can see how my channel is very process-driven because I hope to bring more focus on "each stroke" of science instead of being overly obsessed over the outcomes that we can't control. Perhaps this theory deserves its own video!

It was really helpful, in my case it’s been two years of phd and I have not been able to start writing even, I have been avoiding it because I have this constant fear that I know nothing, it’s too tough. And same for research paper. And the irony is I used to love writing and reading. But now I struggle to even put down 500 words on a page.

Hi Kothai, this is a great idea, I will note this for my video list. But since I make video slowly, I would first comment with more details here hopefully it inspires you in your currently situation. In fact my PhD was interdisciplinary (Biology + Engineering) and it was extremely uncomfortable at the time coming from biology background. What I found helpful: - Step 1: Googling unfamiliar keywords in papers, and first start with reading the Wikipedia page (as a start!) I know we can't cite Wikipedia, but this teaches you what to search! - Step 2: After narrowing down the keyword/subject names, go to free Online Course platforms (MIT open courseware, EDX, or Coursera) and try to fill up the knowledge by enrolling in a relevant course - Step 3: Your PhD program may allow you to pick an elective course, so you can choose accordingly to this missing piece of knowledge. In fact, I have taken a 3rd-year undergraduate physics class from my program and it was TOUGH! (but I passed, Phew!) -Step 4: Hang out in both departments! I spent lunchtime with Biologist as well as Engineers back in my PhD, and I think that social environment helps me think and work like them. -Step 5: Try to reach out to people like you online in conferences (now every event is online, you may be surprised how many people are available on Twitter to connect). Enjoy the new identity of an interdisciplinary researcher, and accept that it is okay to not be 100% similar to your peers. Let me know if these tips are helpful. During this pandemic it was hard for me to interact with anyone as I did most of my work alone in the lab. Hope to find some peers soon. Yes, definitely your reply helps me a lot.
