I cannot thank you enough for this unbelievable post Danny. I've never seen anything like this before, just astounding where choreography, the male ballet body is rising to, and then add Bach. Out of this World.

Catherine Blair Greetings Catherine, It is not my post. I agree with you, Fernandez is brilliant and free from all the "Avant Garde "garbage Twyla Tharp calls choreography and I call bad vaudeville. She ruined many knees the most famous being Baryshnikov's in Push comes to shove, which I hated. I positively loathe the fraud that is Twyla Tharp. Here's a truly unique and brilliant Fernandez, redefining classicism and also honoring the tradition of classic academia. VIVA David Fernandez! His steps have meaning and sprinkled with surprises!

I'm so taken aback by the whole splendour, of Fernandez's unique mind, to unravel Bach's complex music score, and even contemplate the choreography to a superb dancer like De Luz, who can then have the technical musicality, and master this into a new age of old, with the new raising the barre/s, of ballet. I wonder why, this hasn't been done before? A masterpiece of work.

Choreography... I have NO idea whatsoever how a choreographer can mark a musical score with so much movement and precison... Every Single movement, right, left, forward, clockwise, counter-clockwise, flourish, cascade, triple, quadruple, must have a name and/or symbol, direction, stage-right, etc., tempo... It's mind boggling. Truly a talent and language of its own expression! Edit: I forgot to mention that some more contrast with the background (beige attire) or sidelights, backlight/outline, would be nice.

Hello Ross, So happy for your comment. As a choreographer first thing I do is to understand the score as best I can. Specially if it is Bach. I counted the piece and discovered the five variations of the theme, and sketched the structure of the piece. Once I had that all what I had to do is follow its musicality. The accents, and repeats. It’s like a playground for me. Joaquin’s musicality did the rest. Thank you for your kind comment. Best, David

Indeed, I do! Moreover, I think Bach would be happy his 18th century music continues to be relevant and finds application in the 21st century, especially by so virtuosic a performer as Joaquin De Luz!

Its as if the dancer is conducting the orchestra with his body. Wow

As a choreographer, I try to make the music come alive through the dancer's body as Balanchine once said: “See the music, hear the dance,” Thank you for your kind comment. David
