Very well made! Tip for MPS 6 / MPS 3(?) users: If you don't put a small bucket underneath the ERG that you can REMOVE also (I had a magnetic one, dumb choice), or if you don't empty some coolant from underneath the car, you will spill coolant.. AND it CAN get into your turbo. I got lucky a/f. Learning the hard way hahaha

On stock turbo,stock down pipe,cat delete, cork sport exhaust, Cobb sf intake, cork sport hpfp internals, accessport, cpe rear motor mount . I hear that Mazda's fix is a new valve cover. But its $350 and I'm not sure if that's gonna take care of problem. Thanks for your help randy.

If you plan to do this mod, you will need to get a re tune. The tuner will make changes for your car to run smoother after this is done and remove the check engine light that will be on. Randy, maybe you could make a video about re-tuning? Let me know if you need any info. I have been E-tuning cars from various vendors over the last 5 years of owning ms3/ms6.

will be doing an egr valve cleaning tomorrow car has a terrible cold start turns on then dies unless i hold throttle for it to warm up a little not too sure if vcts is deleted already but i know i deff have a clogged egr

When you get the EGR pipe off, try running a pipe cleaner through it to see how blocked it is. Do you have a check engine light on? VTCS deletion will throw a code.

i do have check engine light on but it came on a month ago the code was saying im running too rich but im in new york and i have a bad snow storm rn imma try to do the job in my garage but i feel its going to be way too cold i shouldve did this yesurday

I hear you. Here in Illinois it has been bitter cold, hopefully next week when it warms up to the 30s ( lol @ 30 degrees being warm) I can get back in my garage. Also make sure to check your vacuum lines. A vacuum or boost leak will cause the car to run rough, especially check the recirculator hose for cracks. That one had me puzzled as to why my car was running rough until I replaced it.

Are you still on the stock turbo? Did you add a downpipe? Here is a post that talks about possible fixes www.mazdaspeedforums.org/forum/f11/smoke-idle-fixes-my-thoughts-notes-76005/ . Hey Randy, I was wondering if you'd be able to tell me where the hoses on top of the throttle body run to. Not the ends you're connecting with the barn for the bypass, but the other end of the hoses. Last thing I need to button up the motor swap and I cannot figure it out man haha

I had to run outside and look! One water line runs from the back of the cylinder head, the other goes to a black hard line that looks to be connected to the block. It was hard to see with my intake in the way, but I hope that clears it up for you!

I'm thinking the new motor I put in is from a gen juan due to some other nuances I've found.(cartridge oil filter, hydraulic power steering pump, etc) So it turns out I wasn't crazy, the egr valve didn't have an inlet for coolant at all on the new one. Swapped my old one over and all good. Swap complete! Lots of five five garage watched in the process. Thanks a bunch!

So the hose that goes into the nipple on the block off plate helps keep the proper reading so the ecu won't throw the engine light?

No. It is a coolant hose. The electrical connector that is on the EGR valve is what the ECU is looking for. If you do this, it will throw a code, no way around it.

Where I live, the car doesn't get checked for emissions. From what I have read, deleting the EGR is an automatic fail, so if you live in an area with emissions testing, I would suggest researching it first.

@@FiveFiveGarage Its an automatic fail if its missing in my area as well, however i've removed it before in two different cars and apparently the emissions testers didn't even realize it was missing. I just wasn't sure if this car in particular was easier to pass with it off. It was quite difficult to pass in my other cars. I probably wont be doing it again unless I'm confident it wont cause me to fail. The visual inspection doesn't appear to be a problem though.

No, you don't need a tune, but you will see higher EGT (Exhaust Gas Temps) and the car will run a little hotter at part throttle, but the ECU will keep your AFR's on target. It will throw 2 CEL's (P0401 and P0403) so eventually you will need a tuner to turn off the codes. I would also advise running a step colder spark plug for the temp increase.

You mean the one in the intake? I covered that in the VTCS Delete video ( around 9:10 ). I had the intake already off, and it was easier showing it in that video than when I reinstalled the intake.

No. If you live where it gets cold and you drive your speed year round, you actually need to run the coolant through the TB.

Hi I have been told my egr cooler needs replacement they want to bend me over and have there way with me. I was wondering would this kit resolve this problem?

This will throw an EGR code so the check engine light will be on. If you live somewhere with emissions testing, it can cause you to not pass. Is your EGR clogged? That happens a lot. You can remove it and try to clean out the piping but its not a long term fix. The EGR units on these cars can clog repeatedly. It would probably be easier to just replace the EGR with another unit, especially if your car is stock/near stock. I did this as support for other mods I was doing, I wouldn't recommend it as a standalone.

@@FiveFiveGarage The egr cooler pipe has signs of dried anti freeze on the pipe I’m getting white smoke on idle Iv done a smoke test on the antifreeze ruling out a head gasket issue. My question is if I bypass the cooler and delete the egr would this resolve the issue

Yeah. I would check the coolant lines running to the EGR, sounds like you may have a pinhole leak. You can take rubber lines and a barn fitting to route around the EGR.

The EGR is on the backside of the head above the turbo. Follow the EGR tube from the intake manifold and you will find it.

It is not necessary, but if you don't know when the last time the plugs were changed, I would. These cars have a tendency to widen the plug gap (I am theorizing its because of the combination of pressure and heat cycles) so changing to a colder plus and gapping to. 026 is good preventative maintenance.

I am not quite sure, but probably not. While the base 3 2.3L engine shares a cylinder block with the Mazdaspeed 2.3L, the cylinder head is not the same, and the EGR will be different.

I don't have any experience with that engine, so I can't really say. I can say that I have done some research and it has been done, but there are particulars with the different model years. If you live somewhere that does emissions testing, this would be an automatic fail, so make sure to do your research!

Is the EGR clogged? Sometimes it happens. To clean it fully you will need to remove the EGR valve and the EGR tube that connects to the throttle body. If you remove the EGR completely, you will pop the P0403 code, you will need the help of a tuner to turn the code off.

Back when this video was made it was publicly available, but that is no longer the case. The best way now is contact a tuner and get an updated tune with the CEL turned off.

When I recorded this, my intake manifold was already removed, I was doing the valve cleaning maintenance at the time.
