I see no SSD/SD storage, or a file reader for the music in the storage. I'm really shocked and disappointed that Alpine didn't give us audio snobs the ability to store our flac files in the unit. Some of us care more about the DAC and preamp quality than we do about playing crappy low bit mp3's on Spottily. Sadly this unit isn't even remotely worth the $1k price tag if I can't store flac files in it. I've owned many Alpine head units over the past 20 years, they need to keep us audiophiles happy if they want to keep their price tags high. I wouldn't buy this unit, sure it's flashy with a lot of bells and whistles, but it doesn't even have Ai-net.

Hello Milo, it took them like two hours to do the job. I would suggest you call Paul and ask him. He should be able to get you a time frame. It’s funny it takes me 4 hours to get there as well, but you will see it is well worth doing it.

I got mine mounted with a cage found one the has openinings on side for bolts to side of cage(Made it work) Cage was off a old alpine single din Cda-9883

Great video very informative. Looking to put a Halo 11 in my 2010 Volvo XC90... I would like to utilize the back up camera, HDMI, Maestro iDatalink (if possible) and Android Auto for my Note 10+ ... Volvo doesn't make things easy as I have been told I need a $300 harness to change out to any aftermarket head unit.. HELP any direction will be very useful

Alpine units don't have customizable constant wallpaper, but you can load a custom boot screen for when you turn on the car. I loaded mine with a custom Mazda wallpaper that I made.

I like it a lot but i really wish they had a detachable face. A 9in screen is hard to miss for a car thief. A usb would be nice also for the ppl still migrating away from CD media or if your Cell phone has a issue.

It has no real media play other the usb. The hdmi does not pass out to other screens. It also only has 1 usb that would be used for your phone.

Resolution is really low for a headunit at half the price. All the big car audio brands need to improve their headunits to apple/samsung standard. Especially for £1000.

Couldn't agree more. I've heard that this alpine unit is garbage. The big car audio brands are going to get surpassed by the cheap Chinese stereos that run android operating systems.

Love your videos keep up the great work! So I been going back and forth and can't make up my mind since you have experience with both what would recommend the Alpine halo9 f309 or the Kenwood excelon dnx 996xr? I have 2017 Subaru Forester XT doing a full system with subs. I like the Kenwood because of all the integration with the Kenwood dashcam and the ability to connect my escort radar system and of course wireless Android auto. The main thing with Alpine is the screen size which is nice but I believe the Kenwood has higher resolution. I do know alpine is has the best sound quality and r reliable but I loose the wireless Android auto and ability to connect my radar. In your opinion which one is a better minus all the features? Which would you go with? I trust ur opinion watching you guys through the years.

Called Alpine tech support, this model will not stream video files from a USB or Blutooth device out the rear video outputs. Only DVD can go out the rear audio outs. I asked this question 10 years ago to Kenwood and same issues. These are not cheap units and the processor is lacking. Get in at least the 20 Century.

If anyone ends up here looking to install this unit today, ~mid 2020, definitely do more research. The screen quality is poor by todays standards and just passible when released. Pixelated and uncalibrated, a real shame on a unit that is all about the screen. The processor/software performance is laggy most of the time. CarPlay/Android maps are so washed out you cannot see any details - a huge deal breaker on a unit that does not have it's own nav. Pay close attention when they show maps round 17:25 - this isn't a camera exposure thing, the screen is nearly this washed out all the time when using any map app. This unit has not received a single software update and Alpine USA isn't interested in fixing these issues. Contact support and they will dismiss your problem despite many videos, reviews, and forum threads detailing the issues. Look into the HEIGH10, something I wish was available when I was shopping. Same price range, slightly bigger screen, more inputs, more future proof, more flexible install.

Guys, Dean and Fernando installed one of these Halo 9 beauties in my 2016 Nissan Altima SR, and I must say it is a great head unit. If you already have a mono amp for a subwoofer and you are using the radio to power the other 4 speaker, you may want to add that Alpine KTP-445A little amp, it makes a huge difference! Like always the boys at Five Star Car Stereo did an amazing job on the installation and Paul worked with me on the price for the whole thing. Very happy and satisfied with the way this sounds!

So I went ahead after watching this vid multiple times and put this in my 2019 Kia Sorento. I will say its awesome, only one thing... IDataLink Maestro doesnt have my car in the module programming yet. So with that I dont have steering wheel functions and back up camera is lost. My installer some type of wiring hack that allows me to use the back up cam, but I have to go to home button and hit the camera button to see behind me. Tedious but for the most part, it's a great headunit

It has only HDMI input, no output. So you can add an Apple AV adapter to mirror your iPhone on the screen

That's an Apple Lightning-HDMI connector. They weren't clear if you can use it to split one cable from your phone to the separate HDMI and USB inputs in the back of the unit.
