A theme I've noticed in a lot of your city fixes is a lack of connectivity. This city in particular had a seemingly deliberate lack of road connections in certain areas which no doubt exacerbated the service problems. You're always going have issues if it takes forever for the service vehicles to get where they need to go!
@Vandassar2 жыл бұрын
This is also reflected in the budget (only saying as it was briefly mentioned in the video). Lowing/increasing the budget for services decrease and increase the "shift time" for each worker before they head back to base. Longer shifts mean they can reach more distance (Cover more land).
@superdau2 жыл бұрын
I've been pointing that out for don't know how many "fixes" (years...). Biffa barely mentions it, not even in those cases where there's whole district connected with just a single road. Sure, changing intersections and lanes will fix traffic in the short term. But add another 10 000 people to the city and you're back a square one again when the root cause of missing road connections isn't fixed.
@TAP7a2 жыл бұрын
@@superdau people love seeing interchange fixes because they are charismatic and compelling and Americans tend to suffer from chronic car-itis. No one likes hearing that the way to solve traffic is to make sure every other mode of transport is a more compelling offer than the car, no matter what, and that if you absolutely need to be on the road the local connections should be prioritised over the arterials within the built up area. It doesn’t help that the game explicitly gets you to focus on cars first (every game starts with a highway connection and road building rather than arbitrary housing surrounding a reason to exist that gets built around and towards)
@zlamanit2 жыл бұрын
That's a great point. I like using small roads for these connections, with trucks and private vehicles disabled. People can walk very long distances in the game, but cannot enter motorways so these connections and extra walking paths remove a lot of car traffic.

About the economy sliders, yes, they change the services coverage by reducing the amount of vehicles out there and therefore reducing how far they go before coming back to base. Which is why there are different sliders for day and night: you may want to use certain vehicles at certain times - for instance, trash only at night.
@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines2 жыл бұрын

One thing I see you doing here that maybe warrants more explanation is how you've connected the subways. Someone who doesn't know better might try to connect them by creating a junction of the underground tracks and making a new connector route that overlaps the existing routes. When you have significant metro ridership, the game tends to handle that situation rather poorly (read: gridlock), which is why it's almost always best to simply place two unconnected metro stations within a short walking distance of each other. That's about as close as you can get to having metro lines that share a platform for easy transfers. It would be really nice if you could draw underground pedestrian paths to connect nearby metro stops, but I don't believe there's a way to make that work.

I don't recall ever seeing abandoned buildings getting auto-removed by the game. The best case I've seen where this could have happened was a city of 85K+ that I let die (trying to get unique buildings, don't judge me) and grow back organically. The resurrection took a really long time, and in the interim, the abandoned buildings stayed put except when I manually bulldozed. They only seem to go away automatically when there is sufficient demand to redevelop an area, in which case they get immediately rebuilt rather than demolished down to a bare lot.
@starlaaster5232 жыл бұрын
It does bulldoze them but it takes beyond forever. You have to have zero demand and it does so much harm that I never leave it long enough for the game to bulldoze it. But as a newbie player I would have a big issue after a major die off. That's the only time I saw the game bulldoze without rebuilding.

Way too many cul-de-sac roads that themselves are way too long. Blocks that have connections at both ends are way too long. There aren't enough connections between districts. And the streets themselves in most cases are way too big for their uses; there is no road hierarchy at all here. There are a metric butt-tonne of interconnections that are needed, not only in roads and transit, but also in walking and biking paths. Paths can clip into and attach to the paths in the base game parks, so do that too.
@CesariaMagento2 жыл бұрын

Perfect circles are cool, but so are uneven blobs. It was definitely nearly hopeless, before, but you destroyed a bit of stuff that you didn't need to. For instance, you made the giant roundabout that you looked at in the beginning circular and wide enough to destroy houses! You wrecked the look of the rounded square shape and kept it so big, even after disconnecting it from the roads. Instead of scrapping the intersection on ground level, you should have made it a second, smaller and separate roundabout to handle the vertical and horizontal directions, while the original rotary handles only the diagonal directions. This was arguably the better and more obvious solution. Traffic problems paled in comparison to this city's crazy service deficiencies, so you probably should have balanced it with more traffic fixing.
