Thank you very much, being a single guy even closing to my 30 , i have never really had to do anything like this so learning by watching what to do has been really nice. Looks way easier than i thought it out to be when the bed collapsed on me this morning - will definetly be able to do it on my own. Thanks again!

@ThatDadMike4 жыл бұрын
Glad it helped! I used 1 inch x 2 inch x 8 ft furring strips from Lowes. The 2 inch x 2 inch x 8 ft could also work just be sure to predrill the holes before you screw them in to the side rail. The actual side rails that I mounted the strips to are 2 inch x 6 inch.

That Dad Mike i have another question i try to screw the wood back on to the Railing but the screws doesn’t go in is it because i have to glue it first ?
@ThatDadMike3 жыл бұрын
I would drill the holes with a very small drill bit and then use the screws in the holes that you made. That will make them go in easier and prevent the wood from splitting. The glue goes on the back of the new piece of wood and provides a lot of the strength once it's dry. The screws hold the new piece of wood on and provide some additional strength.

What type of/size screws did you use? And also what glue do you recommend? Great video!
@ThatDadMike3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to watch the video and comment! I used 1 1/4 inch #8 Philips head screws and pre-drilled the wood to avoid splitting. My rails may be wider than yours so be sure to select a screw length that does not go all the way through your railing. Any wood glue would work, I just happened to have some gorilla brand wood glue and used what I had.

With the glue and the right depth of screws, I think it's certainly worth a try!
@waynesmith6393 Жыл бұрын
Most beds are particle board now, unless you spend like 5k+, but it's not the particle board of old days, it's very dense and you may just have to use some toothpicks to give it something to grab onto.

I suggest two additions: first, when working with glue over carpeting, put down a dropcloth. Second, your slats are way too flimsy. You need center support or, over time, the boys or you will cause the mattress to sagnegating any warranty on queen or kingsize beds.

@ThatDadMike3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to watch the video and comment! You could certainly try, and you could even just replace the portion that is broken. My personal preference is to use both screws and glue as the screws provide added strength against the sheering force of the mattress pushing down on the rail.

I noticed that he used Gorilla Glue. That brand usually is a two-part glue in which one part is the bottle of glue and the other water. The directions say to spread the glue over one surface and spray water on that. This activates the glue and makes a foam that when you clam pressure will press into the material being glued. The glue will only gain maximum holding capacity when the water activates it.
@ThatDadMike3 жыл бұрын
This was Gorilla brand wood glue and does not require spraying water and does not foam. Really good stuff. Here is the link: amzn.to/3l6GOjV

Slats are meant to let air get underneath your mattress so it doesn't mold, which a box spring does just with a breathable felt around as well.

If anybody doing this needs to be told to remove screws using the reverse setting, it might be a cart before the horse situation. On the other hand, maybe somebody that doesn't know anything about anything watches this and it helps them take the first step to DIY'n.
