I went to use my Drok USB power monitor and found it was not working because it had a damaged USB connector. In this video I disassemble, then repair the USB connector, and finally reassemble the USB monitor.

Just reapaired my flash drive watching your video. I noticed the wiggle and the disconnecting sound my computer was making when I plugged it in. Taking it apart was not as easy as yours it looks like a dog chewed on it now lol, but it works after I soldered it. Thanks for the clear instructions.

Nice fix, thanks. Glad it worked in your case. For me, the USB receiver for a mouse dropped on the floor and bent up about 15 degrees. Upon examination there were no obvious open connections so I de-soldered the end plug to examine it better. All looked ok so I re-soldered all 4 pins plus the side anchor points. Tested with a continuity tester and there were no apparent shorts. When I plugged it in again, still didn't work but now it was smoking at one of the sides. Still don't know why it stopped working. Might try de-soldering and re-soldering again to get rid of the probably short. Any suggestions?

It is possible the the circuit board may have sustained internal damage when the connector bent. The traces and annular rings around vias can be extremely close together with very thin circuit boards can be damaged easily with just a small amount of force. Another possibility is one of the surface mount components could have been damaged from the board flexing when it was bent. It is a bummer that some things will get broke beyond easy repair. Thanks for stopping by.

If there are still pads on the board that can be soldered to and the USB connector still has the legs that get soldered to the pads in place it should work fine.
