Have I mentioned before how happy it makes me to see colorful foundation garments? (not that the pale creams of what are typically used aren’t nice... but if I am going to put in the effort to make something I generally want it to look like the object in question fell into unicorn barf).

Your fight with wayward skirts was adorable (and probably frustrating). I'm glad you finally conquered the undergarments and are ready to move onto the actual dress. It's going to be gorgeous for sure! P.S. Your cat is surprisingly well-behaved, you were cutting those tiny little intriguing bits of fabric and she didn't wreck havoc out of sheer curiosity.

haha thank you so much! I've now started on the mockup and lemme tell you I am SO EXCITED! And Baby Bat is honestly abnormally well-behaved, she's spoiled me so much for other cats! She loves chomping on plastic and my laptop tho haha (not enough to hurt it or herself!)

Its always fun when a project goes well, even an easy one like the butt pillow lol. The way the bum roll changes the shape of the skirt is so neat! Oh and congrats on finishing the underclothes!!! So excited to see the dress portion of the project!!

right?? I feel like before I put it on I didn't really think the lack of it was too bad, but once i put it on the difference was so apparent, it really helps it all sit in the right place! and yes definitely needed an easy project before I dive into the skirt and bodice - there is sooo much detailing on both of those pieces they are going to be very time consuming!

I've solved this problem with a band behind my butt instead of behind my knees, that worked well. I have only worn the dress for photos, never to an event or anything like that. But I found it comfortable! Btw, I'm currently bingeing all your videos. You're great!! So much content! Can't believe I hadn't found you til recently! Keep up the good work

i think I had about 3 or 4 yards leftover? though I didnt do a skirt lining, I just did an extra layer of the glitter fabric so that probably used up an extra 2 yards

Bum pads are very period appropriate for Victorian dress!! :) they help support the weight of the dress and skirt

Hello, bum rolls were totally a thing in Victorian clothing or so I've learned from Cathy Hay and her videos and Foundations Revealed. They most used the bustle pads to push out walking skirts. 😄 *the more you know*

They do wear bum rolls in the victorian period! I recommend watching bernadette banner here on youtube as she makes a lot of clothes based on the period.

Thanks! I've seen some of her videos - I think she focuses more on late victorian, which uses bustle pads that are a little flatter and less wide I think? I wasn't able to find anything for early or mid victorian though 😅

Your videos are all fantastic! I'm amazed you dont have more subscribers. You work with a confidence that is really satisfying to watch. In terms of historicalness of hoop skirts, I believe later elliptical hoop skirts had weights sewn into the front to force the back to swing backwards. I'm guessing in the era you're looking at they wouldnt really need anything to reduce bulk in the front because the skirts were a similar volume all the way around? That might be why you cant find anything. Just a thought. Looking forward to the next one, its gonna be great to see it all come together

Aw thank you so much! I only started consistently making videos this year so I’m kind of new 😅 I’ll have to look into hoop weights! I think that’s a really good insight! My skirts are so uneven bc it’s a high low skirt so there’s so much more weight in the back where as actual historical mid Victorian are like very evenly baked cupcakes haha. Wow, the difference is night and day. Bum Roll was 100% a great idea, historically accurate or not (Though I would guess, like many things, even if it wasn't the popular item at the time, I am sure someone likely wore them.). Strangely enough, my first sewing project was a sweetheart bodice/ballgownesque dress. Had no idea what I was doing, but it turned out.... I've never made a pillow/pillow case before, which is wild (since like you said, it's one of the starter projects for learning). Everything you've made so far looks so beautiful! I cannot wait to see how the next steps are going to go. Thank you again for sharing your lovely work.

@@moth.faerie it was for a Rose Quartz cosplay many many years ago. It wasn’t as bad as I imagined it turning out, but definitely could have been much better had I actually done some practice and research. I really did just fudge the whole thing. And the night before heading to con too... it has no lining at all/no finished seams. So the inside was a real mess. But it did what I needed it to, thankfully I’m an expert at bullsh*tting... will maybe one day do a remake.

@@KittieRoses honestly for a first sewing project if it didn't fall of your body at the con you're doing a lot better than a lot of cosplayers I know!! One of my first cosplays I made a form fitting dress cut on the bias which sounds fancy and all except I was using a stretch fabric so why would I put myself through that??? who knows haha, it also had applique on it that did not go well. but we all start somewhere! i do not miss that sewing everything the night before a con life tho lol

@@moth.faerie Ahh the life of an expert procrastinator, if it wasn't done the night before, it probably would have turned out worse, which weirdly is how most things go for me. xD I was honestly real surprised it wasn't falling off. Even more so that it hasn't fallen apart after all these years. But alas, it could be 10000% better with the things I know now. Oh goodness, that sounds like so much work and stress, especially getting everything to fit on the fabric just right, but an easy to make mistake, cause I honestly didn't even know what cutting on the bias was until recently, and I have been dabbling (terribly) in sewing for years. I haven't even tried applique yet, it scares me! But I keep seeing all these pretty dresses that use it and I am tempted to try. Both ready and not ready for cons to start up again (hopefully it will be safe to do so sometime soon), but I can guarantee that no matter what happens, I will be sewing the night before.

The tapes across the back of the thigh are not uncomfortable if you are wearing the appropriate drawers. Probably would give more of the result you were looking for. But hey, who doesn't need a butt pillow in their wardrobe? 😊 Loving this outfit!

I thought these were quilted as well? Won’t the fluff concentrate to the bottom of the pillow otherwise? Lol ^^’

I've never had a problem with the fluff settling! I just make sure to shake it a bit before wearing it. Honestly this is just how we make them for theatre, historically maybe they were all quilted?
