Fix a non heating toaster by diagnosis & repairing the element

We show how to diagnose and fault find a toaster with non heating function. The heating element is usually the fault. We show how to find replacement Nichrome wire off a donor toaster and repair the fault so our beloved toaster can live again.

Good on ya mate! I just got given a really expensive Smeg toaster. I can see where the break is. Right down the bottom on the middle element... typical 😅 I might have to try this. I wasn't sure whether just folding the element wire over the existing wire would work but you've proven that it does. Cheers mate. I'll make a video of me doing it as well 👍

I was going to try and see if a spot welder can join nichrome wire . I’ll do that when I get time and make a video on that if it works .

Someone abandoned a smeg toaster that looked almost brand new in oue alley so I had to grab it and see if it works. Sure enough, it had the same issue you have mentioned! Bottom middle element was burnt and disconnected from each other. I am wondering if you were able to fix yours?

I had same problem, tried the repair using doner element wire twisted into a spring to go over both ends, then crimped the ends. Result : Bang!, poofh! lit up and melted. Spent 2 hours of my life on it. So effe'd out the toaster, an expensive Kitchen Aid Artisan 4 toaster bought for €450 Buying cheap from now on ........ and shit on Kitchen Aid.

How long did the repair last, if the wires are heating up at different rates they are going to break again.

It is still working . I’m going to get some spare nichrome wire and see if it welds using my battery spot welder . If it does , I can post a video on it.

Dude this is some serious trolling of those repair nuts who would rather lose 4 hours of their life, burn down the house, and still toast half a slice than go buy a new Kmart toaster. You are awesome!

Kmart toasters do the job too and make great donor toasters for parts to fix these special toasters. I was going to see if I could spot weld the wire but haven’t tried it yet .

Just get a multimeter to trace the wire till you find the break and then mechanically join the wire . I used wire out of another toaster which I got for free .

I’ve bought a spot welder for batteries so I’ll do some experiments trying to weld nichrome wire . Not sure how that will go due to the high resistance .
