I picked up this exact blower for $15 at a yard sale. They said it runs but "something is funky". When I got home it started easily and would bog down at full throttle. You could feather it up to full speed. Watched your video, ordered the tool for $6 on Amazon, made the adjustments you showed and it have run 4 tanks through it. I have never used a backpack blower before, it works great for blowing grass and pebbles off the driveway. I look at a Ryobi like a Camry, great for getting you from A to B around town and to the next town over, but a BMW is more comfortable. I don't care if my neighbors see me in a Camry, but if money were no issue, I'd probably be in a BMW.

Yes, my BP-42 is 11yrs old with various problems along the way. On my 3rd carburetor. there're cheap enough so I just replace them. One challenging problem I had was, I would be blowing just fine and after a while the blower would stop. After it cooled down it would work fine for 20-25 min and stop again. Cool down, start right up run again and Stop. Over and over and over again. I could not for the life of me figure it out. Looked at hundreds of YT videos - nothing. The one time It kinda felt like before it shut down it was starving for gas so i changed the fuel lines - Same problem... On night lying in bed it came to me on a hunch. THE GAS CAP..... yep, the gas cap was not venting. I drilled out the vent and solved the problem - Replaced the gas cap and working fine again.. Go Figure!

Picked up one of these yesterday for $20 that wouldn't run full speed without partial choke. When I got it home and inspected it, I noticed the gas in the tank was very dark (almost black) with how much 2 stroke oil was in it. When I pulled the air cover off the air filter was covered with oil. I took the filter off, tuned it to where it should be running and got a new filter on order. When I get the new filter I'll adjust it properly, just wanted to hear it run. It runs awesome now with fresh gas. I wouldn't be ashamed if someone saw me using it, while it's not a Stihl or Husqvarna it gets the job done in most instances especially for non commercial use

What gas were they using for its mixture? I hope it was ethanol-free. Sometimes when you run too much pump gas (with ethanol) the carb gets gummed up pretty bad. Open the dome up and dry that stuff out, use some simple brake cleaner that evaporates.

I have this blower, replaced the carb but haveing a really hard time getting the adjustments right. How do you find the starting point? It starts now with the new carb but any just seems like no matter how much I adjust it bogs down and stalls onc I pull the trigger. I am wondering could it be the tubes to the primer? Which one goes where?
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE 2 ай бұрын
oh I see, you might have an additional problem which is keeping you from getting a good tune. Have you checked the spark arrestor screen for a clog? If it's clogged, it'll still bog down no matter what you do with the settings. If the bulb is working and the blower is starting, I wouldn't worry about the fuel lines yet.

I got a newer version of this for $100. It's worked all season long, but yesterday it failed. Details: - Very hard to pull - Easy to pull when spark plug is out - gas was replaced with known good gas/oil mix - It ran only 3 sparks (sounded very rough), then died.
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE 4 жыл бұрын
So what it sounds like is the engine is flooded with a lot of fuel. Remove the spark plug. Put the plug back in the hole without screwing it in just hold it there. Have someone pull the cord while you allow some air to get past the spark plug. After several pulls screw the spark plug in and see if you can pull the rope. If so replace the wire and try to start it but without choke. I would consider replacing the carb to keep it from doing this again.

My Ryobi BP42 starts up fine but when I press the throttle, it shuts off. This happened after I put in new 50:1 mix oil gas. Before it was fine. I may have mixed it the wrong ratio. Should I replaced the gas with proper mix or mess with the carburator adjustment? Any thoughts much appreciated.

@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE 8 ай бұрын
interesting. I'm guessing the carb might be set a bit heavy on fuel, so cold starts worked great since the extra fuel is welcomed. But when hot, the extra fuel only floods the engine. Otherwise, I would replace the spark plug for an OEM one,.

INSIDE HOUSE GARAGE Actually, Ryobi published a couple of revisions to their starting procedures dealing with hot restarts. The one I’m using now has been working for me this afternoon exceptionally well. For what it’s worth, I just broke down the machine yesterday, took apart the carb and found the carb pump side screen covered in paraffin. Also found stray bits in the tank. Got it all back together, fresh gas, primer bulb about 16 times to get it to fill, then choke on and it fired on third pull. Choke off and it started and idled for 2-3 minutes. Went to throttle up and bogging down so I’ve been adjusting the carb screws, which is why I came back to watch this video again. Blower stalled out multiple times as I worked on it and although it’s definitely hot, it starts right up every time using the following factory revised technique. Throttle/cruise control all the way off. Choke on and then off again. What this does is preset the throttle plate very slightly cracked open. Pull cord and it starts right up! Then when you go to throttle up again that resets the plate to manual operation once again. What this procedure does is provide a bit more air to the mixture AND avoid flooding, which happens more often than not when the blower won’t restart hot and operators continue to either choke and pull multiple times or switch to run position and continue to pull. Both those will still flood the engine. The other more common but less successful method with machine is run position and set throttle wide open. This is more for clearing a flooded machine, though it can work to start, although it can take a lot of pulls to clear the flood.

I have the Ryobi 38cc, 175mph version. I've had more issues with my Stihl equipment, than less expensive Chinese made products. If fact, I will no longer buy anything Stihl as for me it's been a waste of money.

That blower will last for a while, but I don't like it.

Someone gave it to me for free. I would never buy that blower. I've had my Echo Commercial for almost 20 years. I always tell people to buy commercial grade. It will actually save them money and headaches in the future.

I have used to Stihl for my landscape business for yrs, everything's Stihl. I bought a back pack blower to keep at my ex gfs house. I DO NOT like it. It's fit is awful and will not stay tuned.

That's a piece of junk equipment. 90 percent of 2cycle engine problems is mixers are ran too thin.

I would rather save up my money to buy a ‘used’ Stihl (my favorite brand). A used Stihl is much better than a new Ryobi. If you take care of it a Stihl will last an eternity.

Ryobi. Always hard to start. Poor quality. I rather send money on Sthil, Echo or Shindawia.
